Incredible vinyl sales for both artists. Already the 2nd and 3rd biggest vinyl albums of the year with Taylor possibly reaching the #1 spot by the end of the week

Also, re. the Tom Odell/Arctic Monkeys observation from earlier in the week, Another Love didn't just block their biggest hit from the top 10, it's now ahead of all three of their entries this week, a whole 2 album campaigns later :kink:

NO ONE saw that number coming, NO ONE!

1 Taylor Swift - Midnights (173,623) *

Wow at those vinyl sales.

Taylor’s streams incredibly high for Wednesday - does someone have the Top 5 ever weekly album streams to hand? I know Divide is 1 and 2 - think its 2nd week was in the 55-60k range? Taylor could land around there.

What did Taylor Swifts last album of new material sell in its opening week?

Evermore sold 27K first week but didn't have any physicals. Her previous highest opening week was 1989 on 90K so i expect her to surpass 200K

Note: if Buzzjack's being slow, don't keep pressing "add reply", once is enough and your post will go through when the site loads :kink:

if she does 17k more (which is pretty dead certain) she will have outdone her previous biggest album debut here by 100k... madness, never in a million years did I expect her to beat Arctics, nevermind be 60k ahead of them  with no pre-album single too... :o

Also, if as it appears, Taylor ends the week with the #1, #3 & #4, it will be the 4th time within a year that one artist has held 3 of the Top 4, with every possible combination of those positions happening once:

#2, #3 & #4: Ed Sheeran (release week of =)

#1, #2 & #4: Adele (release week of 30)

#1, #2 & #3: Harry Styles (release week of Harry's House)

#1, #3 & #4: Taylor Swift (release week of Midnights)

Those figures are less impressive when you take into account the fact that most of them are being bought multiple times by the same people.

i wouldn't say its less impressive, i'd say its more impressive that you are popular enough to have people buy multiple versions of the same album

As is the case with most artists these days, that's how you sell an album in the age of the dead physical market.. Abba released 6 different Voyage vinyls and 5 different CD's, Harry released 6 different Harry's House vinyls and 6 different CD's, Billie released 8 different colour Happier Than Ever vinyls, Olivia released 7 different colour Sour vinyls..

Her sales are insanely impressive by any account in the current market, and as I said before I never see people complaining about other peoples multiple variants. Why is it an only an issue when it's Taylor  take out the physical sales from all artists for the chart all together and she would still be number 1 by an absolute mile on just streams..

THIS EXACTLY!!! Why don't people just admit that its impressive that she's doing so well 16+ years into her career with her 12th album rather than diminish her success!!!

You're 600% right. Olivia had WAY more colors and then like A month ago she released 3 more for the 1 (!) year anniversary. Everyone has it, including Adele or Ed or the people you mentioned, but only Taylor sales that much from them, that's her power and its' her biggest era it seems and for a good reason.

Ah I forgot Harry beat ABBA's vinyl sales - 'Harry's House' opened with 36,041

The charts must be a bitter disappointment to you then? Multi format fan buying has been going on since physical singles, then downloads before moving onto albums - it’s the norm for artists to have up to 10+ formats every single week even your mate Shakin Stevens jumped on the bandwagon with CD, vinyl and signed variants.

I know it's the case with most artists! Doesn't make it right!

And I wasn't singling out Taylor - it just so happens that the post I quoted was talking about her sales.

I fail to believe that most people are buying more than one copy of the Taylor album. Sometimes I think people need to remember that this forum is filled with the very people who are most likely to buy multiple copies of something and that the real world doesn't contain many other people like them. Having lots of versions available doesn't make people actually buy more than one, especially not when an individual vinyl is retailing at over £30.
