At this stage I gladly never would. Or at least not for another decade.

I think Xmas doing so much better this year than last on Spotify has to come down to the level of promotion Spotify gave their Xmas playlists yesterday, I don't expect the top end of the chart will start to look Christmassy until the end of the month as per usual.

 

Exactly this and the 1st November is always a big day as people focus their minds on Xmas coming but as you say the Xmas playlists might not be as prominent on the Spotify/apple apps until 1st December again. The chart week ending 6/7th December will be when 5/6 Xmas songs will be top 40!

In December 2020 I didn't hear Mariah Carey's voice once, so Christmas in lockdown wasn't all bad.

Does the re-setting of Running Up The Hill, Another Love, etc at certain points this year mean they will have to re-set Xmas songs in the same way or not?

It comes down to if labels ask for it or not (although even if they do, the press release from the OCC after Kate Bush being reset included a paragraph that seemed to imply they wouldn't reset Christmas hits, also people have claimed before that a reset was previously requested and not granted for Mariah but I don't know if there was ever a reliable source for that)

I imagine probably, might miss out again for the next couple of days now as it won’t have the top 50 playlist visibility anymore

I'd expect Mariah to keep falling throughout the week and recover at the weekend, that's the way it seems to go for Christmas music usually.

She didn't even make Top 50 for the week until the very last week of November, last year (the entirety of December was spent at #2).
