I also pointed Room On The Third Floor (well only one point but still).

One of their best and most underrated.

Behind A Painted Smile is amazing. Deserves to be better known, the intro is one of the most unlikely fake starts in a pop song, and then Bam! straight into a dramatic frantic soul histrionic battering ram of a record. Ronald Isley gives it his all. Play very loud because it's a wall of sound to be a part of not observed. 2 minutes 45 seconds and then it ends on a short fab drum riff.

Poor brave Mary Mary, out here and being voted out by a landslide in the poll in the 00s forum </3 think that may have made a top 30 for me.

Otherwise not a vintage bunch, 'Forever Autumn' is great too though (and another song that was recently mentioned on PopMaster!)

David Guetta, Becky Hill and Ella Henderson - Crazy What Love Can Do

Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues

Adam Rickitt - I Breathe Again

From 1983, and with Stevie Wonder on harmonica, this is the first of Elton John's two songs that received votes. It's all over for David Guetta though as the last of his three songs drops out. Soap actor Adam Rickitt had three top 30 singles with I Breathe Again his biggest hit.

Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven

Japan - Ghosts

Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye - You Are Everything

Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares For Me

The Shamen - Phorever People

From 1982, this haunting song was the highest charting single for Japan but they split up in the same year. My Baby Just Cares For Me was recorded by Nina Simone in 1957 but wasn't a hit until thirty years later after being used in a perfume commercial.

Guru Josh – Infinity (1990s... Time for the Guru)

Happy Mondays - Step On

These two singles were in the top 40 at the same time in 1990. A remix of Infinity took it two places higher in 2008. Step On was a cover version of a 1971 song by John Kongos called 'He's Gonna Step On You Again'.

Martin Solveig and GTA - Intoxicated

Only one single on 44 points so I have the opportunity to listen to a recent song that I am not familiar with. I didn't like it. It was the first of two top 10 hits for the French DJ. GTA stands for Good Times Ahead.

Oh no, I gave Step On a considerable amount of its points  My first big loss, I figured that one might be at risk, the piano riff is so joyous and the choir is amazing.

'I Breathe Again' my only loss in that bunch, another one of my shamelessly guilty pleasures  I gave it 27 of its 41 points!

Some great 90s dance going out in that batch. Happy Mondays obvs and The Shamen made some great little tunes in their time, 'Phorever People' being up there amongst there best. 'Infinity (1990s)' is also a classic, love that sax refrain.

'Tears In Heaven' was very close to getting points from me too, those poignant lyrics get me every time I hear it, especially knowing what they were written about.

I think I prefer the 2008 version of 'Infinity' but it's a banger in either form, shame that didn't get through. That's the only song I care about at all in this batch out of the ones I've heard ('Tears In Heaven' is nice enough as well I guess). 'Crazy What Love Can Do' getting as many as 41 points is shameful x
I much prefer the 1990s version of 'Infinity'. It is so iconic. It should be in the final. :(

I was another voter for I Breathe Again 🙈.

Echo the comment about Crazy What Love Can Do. Amidst a lot of competition, it might have been my least favourite song of last year.

Mariah Carey featuring Jay-Z - Heartbreaker

Stevie Wonder - I Was Made To Love Her

From 1967, this was Stevie Wonder's first top 10 single. He has one song left. Heartbreaker was a fourteenth US number 1 for Mariah Carey.

Happy Mondays - Kinky Afro

Meatloaf - Dead Ringer For Love

Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love

From 1986, this was the first of five top 10 hits for Robert Palmer. With uncredited vocals from Cher, Dead Ringer For Love was the only top 10 single for Meatloaf in the 70s and 80s. Happy Mondays appear for the second day in a row.

99 Souls featuring Destiny's Child and Brandy - The Girl Is Mine

This mash up of Girl by Destiny's Child and The Boy Is Mine by Brandy & Monica was the only hit single for the British house duo.

No great losses there, apart from 'Dead Ringer For Love' which is an absolute belter! Shame Cher was never credited on that as it's pretty much a duet with her.

I'd completely forgotten about the existence of 'Tears', not one of Clean Bandit's more memorable tracks. Whereas that Mariah Carey/Jay-Z collab I don't even remember at all

'Tears' is one of the better Clean Bandit songs from beyond their first album for me! I like the Meat Loaf, Robert Palmer and 99 Souls songs too but don't think any of them would have made my votes.

Blur - Out Of Time

The Carpenters - Top Of The World

Steps - After The Love Has Gone

From 1973, this was the fourth top 10 single for The Carpenters. Blur have five singles that peaked at number 5. All of them received votes with Out Of Time the first to appear. Steps lose the second of their two songs.
