January 26, 20232 yr 61 points Cash Cash featuring Bebe Rexha - Take Me Home (3) wvzfOyW0ZMo From 2013, this is the only top 20 single by the trio from New Jersey. Don't remember this song in the slightest. Having listened just now I am sure I won't remember it tomorrow...
January 26, 20232 yr Author 65 points Scissor Sisters - Filthy/Gorgeous (8) TlO4FWrVE2I This was the fifth single taken from Scissor Sisters' debut album, reaching a higher chart position than the previous four.
January 26, 20232 yr Aww I almost gave Lene Marlin points which might well have got her through as we can’t be far from the cutoff now.
January 26, 20232 yr 'Filthy/Gorgeous' is finally another one of my votes to drop out! It's great fun.
January 26, 20232 yr Thought Filthy/Gorgeous would be nailed on to make it. 8 votes so was popular, just not enough
January 26, 20232 yr Oh dear, another one (of mine) bites the dust - really thought 'Filthy/Gorgeous' would do better, what an absolute bop. 'Sitting Down Here' is pretty lush too, that was very close to getting points from me.
January 27, 20232 yr Author 66 points Kaiser Chiefs - Never Miss A Beat (3) Madonna - Express Yourself (4) r-rgIPIkCl4 From 2008, this was the last of seven top 20 singles by the Leeds band. All six of Madonna's number 5 singles received votes and Express Yourself is the first to go out.
January 27, 20232 yr Author 67 points Kendrick Lamar and SZA - All The Stars (4) Bruce Springsteen - I'm On Fire / Born In The USA (4) EPhWR4d3FJQ This double A side single was the third top 20 hit from Bruce Springsteen's seventh album after not having any from the previous six. From 2018, All The Stars was taken from the soundtrack to the film 'Black Panther'.
January 27, 20232 yr Author 68 points Martika - Toy Soldiers (6) Sybil - When I'm Good And Ready (4) LvdLovAaYzM This was an American number 1 single for Martika and one of three UK top 10 hits. Sybil had the same number of top 10 singles with When I'm Good And Ready the last of them in 1993.
January 27, 20232 yr Bruce Springsteen and Martika out :nocheer: Both of the Bruce double A-side are brilliant songs from what has become my favourite album of the 1980s, Born In The USA, especially the title track, a defiant call for all those bruised in the name of their country. The choruses after the brooding verses of Toy Soldiers hit hard too. Edited January 27, 20232 yr by jimwatts
January 27, 20232 yr Author The cut off point has been reached! 100 singles had a points total greater than 68 points. We also have 15 wild cards, these are the songs that were given 30 points by one voter but didn't receive enough points from others to go through. So there will be 57 songs in one semi-final and 58 in the other one with the top 25 from each semi going through to the final. These are the wild cards, with the person who gave them 30 points in brackets: 30 Madcon - Beggin' (Cow Cow) 30 Dorothy Moore - Misty Blue (Leonardo) 30 Desireless - Voyage Voyage (AH Gold) 31 Bruno Mars & Cardi B - Finesse (detonate) 36 Ms. Dynamite - Dy-Na-Mi-Tee (Bleak Dot Winter) 46 Reel 2 Real featuring The Mad Stuntman - I Like To Move It (Smithy501) 49 Taylor Swift - You Need To Calm Down (...ready for it) 57 Stevie Wonder - I Wish (garyfeld) 60 Far East Movement featuring The Cataracs and Dev - Like A G6 (!!!) 61 Avicii - You Make Me (Daanuary) 62 Blur - On Your Own (rio309) 62 Showtek featuring We Are Loud and Sonny Wilson - Booyah (coi) 63 Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (AaronTM) 65 Hot Chocolate - It Started With A Kiss (Shaky1981) 66 Texas - Black Eyed Boy (Mango) The first semi-final will start on Monday.
January 27, 20232 yr Oh boo at Sybil just missing - should have given her just a bit more… :arrr: Surprised my wild card qualified on points. That list of wild cards that didn’t doesn’t look great I have to say. :kink: Hopefully the rest of what’s qualified is good.
January 27, 20232 yr How to rub salt in the wound of those earlier exits :drama: From the list of wildcards, I can get behind those from Avicii, Stevie Wonder, Desireless and Reel 2 Real featuring the late Mad Stuntman, although I'd rather have had the 4 songs eliminated on 67 or 68 points.
January 27, 20232 yr Author When I did the no.1 and no.2 polls, there were four quarter-finals with 200 songs going through. The cut off point was less than 30 points. Now that only 100 songs go through to the next stage, the wild cards are just to make sure that each voter's favourite song is still in the contest.
January 27, 20232 yr Gutted at Worried About Ray and Never Miss A Beat not quite making it through! :( Also lost Anything Could Happen from my votes near the end but glad we don't have to lose any more faves now
January 27, 20232 yr Why didn't I wildcard The Happy Mondays :'( :drama: Did lose a few of my smaller pointers throughout (and My Way too </3) but still got quite a few favourites to support at least and glad the cutoff wasn't quite as high this year.
January 27, 20232 yr Another two of mine gone, 'Never Miss A Beat' and 'Toy Soldiers' just missing out :( That's probably my favourite Kaiser Chiefs single, I defy anyone not to sing along to that chorus, it's a complete earworm! And as for 'Toy Soldiers', how can there be so much emotion in one chorus? I'm just happy that Eminem brought the song back into prominence, if only briefly. Looking forward to the semis :D thanks for the hard work so far Rollo!
