October 18, 20231 yr High key ridiculous that Trustfall is out of the top 20 albums because of GH playlists. There is a deluxe version being released on December 1st. Not sure how much that will boost the album, but fingers crossed it may help it climb back into the top 20. The lead single from the deluxe is being released this Friday.
October 24, 20231 yr Author Style enters this week after an extraordinary few months of consistent streaming, knocking out Bad Habit. Taylor now has 5 in the YTD Top 100 though Lavender Haze probably won’t last. Possible new entries in the next couple of weeks include Disconnect, 0800 Heaven and Prada.
October 24, 20231 yr There’s no way Style lasts either, assuming its sales drop off a cliff from next week due to Taylor’s Version?
October 24, 20231 yr Author There’s no way Style lasts either, assuming its sales drop off a cliff from next week due to Taylor’s Version? Oh I hadn’t thought about that. Has that been happening with the other Taylor songs when the new versions come out? I imagine many playlists including people’s saved playlists might take a while to switch over.
October 24, 20231 yr Oh I hadn’t thought about that. Has that been happening with the other Taylor songs when the new versions come out? I imagine many playlists including people’s saved playlists might take a while to switch over. Tricky to know. The only real evidence I have is that Enchanted (original) was relatively regularly in the Spotify top 200 before Speak Now (TV) and hasn’t appeared since
October 24, 20231 yr Kworb's statistics provide somewhat of an answer - the TVs have continued to hold up out-streaming the originals, so I'd expect future sales of 'Style' to get cut by about half, at least. As for Enchanted itself the original did 668k daily streams yesterday, the TV did 918k streams. The one TV from 1989 that already got released; Wildest Dreams is a bit more even at the moment for daily streams (739k original, 832k TV) but I imagine the gap will widen once the full 1989 TV album is released and established.
October 24, 20231 yr Surprised that 'Wildest Dreams' TV is actually outstreaming the original, didn't the original briefly re-enter the UK top 200 with no sign of the TV recently?
October 24, 20231 yr Songs released early in the year in the streaming era have an unfair advantage for annual best of lists as such songs have up to 12 months of streaming and downloads that can be incorporated whereas songs released later have less months of accumulation. In the pre streaming (and digital) era, songs could only rely on the 12 or 15 weeks of physical single availability that their labels gave them so summer or even autumn hits had just as much a chance of topping the bestseller list as a song released in January...

October 24, 20231 yr Author Interesting - anyway Style’s streams are so high at the moment that it would still be doing more than some songs like Lavender Haze if they halved, so I don’t think it’s a given that it will crash out of the YTD chart.

The whole concept of "year end" is very arbitrary and just a snapshot of what's popular. The format of how music is being consumed doesn't matter. Even in the physical era, Q4 releases suffered a lot if they weren't purely sold for Christmas presents (i.e. broke through later). For instance, In the Zone by Britney charted better on ye chart in 2004 even though it was released in November 2003. Edited October 26, 20231 yr by Sour Candy
October 26, 20231 yr I mean, really you could say the same about the weekly charts, that songs out from the start of the week have an advantage over those that are released half-way through. It would be interesting to see see rolling year-end charts (i.e. weekly charts that are totals of the previous 52 weeks of sales) to see all the songs that would get to #1 and how high other songs could get.

A rolling 52 week chart would be much better. I’ve thought that for about 15 years. :)
October 27, 20231 yr Author Just checking; is I’ll Be Waiting still on the list or has it fell out? Yes #72 with 368k for the year. It’s down to 3-4k per week so tanking now - may hold on but wouldn’t guarantee it. If We Ever Broke Up and Trustfall are in a similar boat.
October 27, 20231 yr Now that cruel summer is back on SCR I wonder if it can end up landing in the top 10? Between 8-10? I think #11 is a guaranteed spot now and the lowest it’ll chart on the year end chart
October 27, 20231 yr Author I agree Cruel Summer now has a shot at the Top 10! The current #10, People, will finish on just over 900k.
