Unless I'm missing something, this was just said in passing to a fan and she potentially doesn't have the resources/funds if she's independent to mass produce as many on a quick basis! I don't think she's as arsed about getting #1 as some make out, she's pushing hard as she has been insider information that she has a chance so why not. She's stated many times on her socials she will be happy with #2 and had no high expectations, she's just trying to see if she can do it. Also it's kind of odd to defend a multi million label imo but hey ho.

February 9, 20232 yr I don't know why people here are criticising RAYE's promotional strategy. Maybe there was a reason beyond 'poor planning' for not having more physical stock. Obviously she will fight for the #1 if she's been told she has a chance and she has fans who can support her. She said she would regret it if she didn't try her absolute best to do it. I remember when Sam Ryder was asking for downloads 24/7 and nobody cared about that. RAYE deserves it as much as anyone else. If she doesn't do it then she gets #2 but at least she can hold her head up and say she tried. If she drops massively next week then she can join the 80%+ of other artists that did. February 9, 20232 yr I don't think RAYE is doing anything different to what many others have done and will do in the future. She's just trying to get as many sales as possible and social media videos is one of the modern ways to achieve this. No.1 or No. 2, six months ago when her singles weren't making the Top 100, I doubt she expected any of this. Get it whilst you can!!

It's just the usual artists battle for #1. I don't see the issue? :lol: More artists should do this if they're in a fight for the number 1. Do whatever you can to get the maximum out of the biggest sales week of your album release. Her not doing anything would have people saying "she should put up more of a fight!!! Give us a battle!" It's one thing saying that you prefer one artist to get the number 1 over another, which is completely fine. But Shania's had a lot of promo this week and also had her own signings, so why aren't you calling her out for using tactics (yes, that's exactly what it all is - coz why not???)... if Shania/her label want to counteract and reduce her album then I don't think you'd have a problem with it? :lol:
February 9, 20232 yr Good on RAYE for chasing the number 1! She's worked so hard to even get to release her album so for it to be so close is such an amazing feat - off course she's going to go for it if she can and things are that close.
February 9, 20232 yr The fact that RAYE is independent kind of validates her doing whatever she's doing, the deck is so stacked against you from the outset (and she's already had a week at #1 taken away by a more egregious major label artist this year!)
February 9, 20232 yr Raye could have put in a much better fight if her team had produced more physicals - the vinyl and CD is literally sold out most places and has been for quite a bit of the week, Universal/EMI fighting for the #1 is nothing new - what they are doing this week they do most weeks - price cuts, signed versions, signings etc., if Raye had produced sufficient stock she could have done the same and put in a real challenge rather than blaming her old record company. We don’t know if Raye has the resources to supply the physicals though as an independent artist. No point getting loads printed without the guarantee they would sell. Universal clearly do have the resources to go all in with stock, variants etc.

Universal clearly do have the resources to go all in with stock, variants etc. Which is why she chose the worst week to release - if you don’t have the resources to go all in then a bit of strategic planning would go a long way, Raye is going to end the week on very healthy sales that could achieve #1 in the current climate in the right week - going up against a major label with a legacy artist that is going all out for promo would always be an uphill challenge for an independent artist.
