It's left hand side material, Jurys would eat it up. The public on the other hand I'm not so sure, maybe we'll get brownie points for hosting.

I guess we won't know until it's announxed on the One Show at 8pm on Friday! Guess Ellie and Calvin premiering their dong on the One Show at 8pm on Friday is just a coincidence!!

I really love Birdy, she’s got so many beautiful songs and some bops (Keeping Your Head Up remains forever underrated!).

Raincatchers feels really atmospheric, I can see it working well as a performance!

I imagine the BBC and TaP would want to repeat the post Eurovision success of Sam Ryder so you would really need someone like Sam who can crossover into different demographics. So really you need an already household name or someone who could become one especially with it being in the UK this year. Ellie Goulding, Birdy and Rina to a point fit that mould. Whereas Mae Muller and Mimi Webb appeal to a younger audience whose music is basically written to try and go viral on TikTok.
The insiders are teasing by using “mae” instead of “may” and another used “mull it over” lol definitely her
Intriguing if it’s Mae, the song doesn’t sound like a Radio 2 type track at all, and they always playlist the entries.

It’s very confusing

With ‘Space Man’ that was very much a Radio 2 song that wasn’t overly out of place on Radio 1. This year we seem to be going the opposite if rumours are correct.

I can't see Mae Muller doing as well as Birdy or Rina would :( imo the song's a bit dull (assuming we're all talking about I Just Came To Dance?), it'll need a lot more energy and seriously good staging to make an impact.

I didn't have Yobnedorica's entry being an official UK entry for Eurovision on my bingo card!! :o :o

Jokes aside, I Just Came to Dance would be good but I don't think it will be memorable unless we have a banging staging.

Just heard 'I Just Came to Dance' for the first time.

It's a bit... bland? Like, it feels quite empty and hollow?

Oh it's not even a new Mae Muller song being rumoured? :')

'I Just Came To Dance' is pretty not good oops

It’s a new song called… I wrote a song

I resent the notion of “a Eurovision song” and is probably why I don’t want it so much.

I’ve done a quick ish video on my channel discussing all the main rumours if anyone wants to peep!

Fab video Rob, very good overview of the rumours and Twitter gossip, and funny too.

Eurovision Twitter makes me laugh so much, people hanging off every crumb, and as you also alluded to, it's like 'oh I heard it from a friend of a friend's brother's uncle whose cousin's catsitter is an intern at Radio 2'. But then some of the same people when called out are like 'stop leaking stuff guys, you're making the fandom look bad (unless you're leaking it to me only, that's fine)'.

Completely agree with you that we need to stop looking for a 'Eurovision song'. In fact over the past few years, the songs that fit the generic uplifting radio pop, maybe with a key change and inspirational lyrics template of "Eurovision Song" pretty much always flop or do averagely, whereas the really different sounding tracks are those that fly.

I really wish the idea of a „Eurovision Song“ would be completely forgotten about by the British public. There is no such thing. Just focus on finding a good song that you’d actually want to listen to again and again

Ironically, I would say that Space Man does fit our mould of a Eurovision song. A happy, positive vibe, in a major key, radio pop. We were just lucky that Sam smashed the song and performance out of the park, because in the hands of one of our prior few entrants I doubt it would have got out of the bottom five.

I can't even remember the last time we truly sent a song that doesn't sound like it was specifically tailored for the contest - maybe the late 90s? Yet you look at countries like Italy and Ukraine, who pretty much always do well, and their songs just don't feel like they've been designed to fit a mould - that's what we should be aiming for and hopefully that's what we have aimed for this year.
