From runner up in the previous round to out first in this Survivor, A1 find themselves at the target of many because they dared to cover one of the biggest and fan favourite 80's songs of all time.. 'Take On Me' originally by A-Ha. Unfortunately for the haters it took the band to #1 in September 2000 but it wasn't their only one as 'Same Old Brand New You' also followed suit. Sadly the superior #1 for them won't be appearing in these Survivors as it finished at... 102 for that year. I can't defend the fact that this is a very tacky and silly cover so no loss as far as I'm concerned.

Gone for 2 Play

I've gone 2 Play as I don't really remember it.

 

I know Take On Me isn't seen as the best cover version in the world but it didn't deserve to be last here.

2 Play.

 

Had to give it a listen as I didn't even remember how it goes and it's very forgettable unsurprisingly.

Conversely, despite the fact that I haven’t heard So Confused for years*, I remember the chorus of it really well. It’s rather catchy. I never overly liked the song, but it felt pretty unavoidable while it was a hit and that must have been enough to leave its mark on my mind after all these years.

 

* I’ve never scrobbled it; my Last.fm data starts in January 2012!

well, 2 classics and a pile of crap is my immediate reaction to this bunch. Mary J Blige is a classic, and one other is too, the rest I have no memory of, so hang while I check my A to Z of personal chart hits before I single one out to vote for... :lol:
A few of those that didnt top my charts went top 40, a few didn't, and one flopped entirely. So voted for that one....

So Confused was one of just four songs in 2004 to climb in its second Top 40 week (8-6) - the others being Kelis - Milkshake (3-2), DJ Casper - Cha Cha Slide (2-1) and The Farm featuring The SFX Boys Choir - All Together Now 2004 (10-5).

 

Voted Akon this round.

Went for Chris Brown which was actively unenjoyable to listen to.
