It's a fun enough pop song but I never got the appeal of it being a single over something like 'Maroon', 'Snow On The Beach' (pushed the "More Lana" as an official "remix" of the song for single purposes), 'You're On Your Own, Kid' (I really think this might've taken off if given a real push) or 'Would've, Could've, Should've' In fact, I'd have preferred 'Hits Different' to be given the full single treatment over 'Karma' tbh. EDIT: Also, I don't like 'Maroon' or 'Snow On The Beach' as much as other people (I DO still like them though!!!!!) but not using their potentials as singles was wasted, imo. 'Maroon' should've been in place of 'Lavender Haze'!
May 29, 20232 yr Jonjo spitting facts, minus the part about this song being fun. x ('Midnight Rain' also deserves to be a single, it is the 3rd most streamed song on the album after 'Anti-Hero' and 'Lavender Haze' even without a single push, boo at it being overlooked in favour of 'Bejeweled' and 'Karma' which are imo the 2 worst songs on the main tracklist) I was really fearing this Ice Spice remix was going to be huge, relieved that doesn't seem to be the case with it tumbling down Spotify so rapidly. I still expect it'll be top 10 on Friday anyway but we can pray otherwise x

Not only does it have that "single sound" but the fact it wasn't on streaming or the main versions of the physical copies meant it wasn't DOA like most post-album singles nowadays

May 29, 20232 yr I don't see what's so bad about 'Karma', aside from a couple of dodgy lyrics. The lyrics alone (there are more than a couple dodgy ones x) are enough to tank it imo but even aside from that, I've always just found it to have a really awkward melody, like the number of syllables in each line of the chorus feels all over the place and doesn't flow naturally at all. It's like it's trying to split the difference between being a basic 'fun' pop song and being more complex / verbose but it doesn't quite pull off either so it just ends up being the worst of both worlds. (This largely applies to 'Bejeweled' as well, and honestly partly to 'Anti-Hero' too although I do like that song on the whole, there are just some parts that feel a bit awkward and hold it back from being as big a favourite for me as it is for everyone else) I'm at peace with it being a hot take and I'm probably overthinking it to justify my initial gut reaction but that's the best I can do to explain it x The album includes Vigilante Shit, it should be considered factual that that is one of the bottom two songs, honestly x And yet it's on her tour setlist (does that still need to be spoilered? x) :smoke: 'Vigilante Shit' is kind of cringe but I've grown to appreciate it for at least coming across as self aware cringe.

The Ice Spice contribution leans towards meh for me, but for some reason her uttering "Facts." towards the end of the song amuses me! Facts. x

May 31, 20232 yr Author Hated the remix on first listen but it’s really starting to grow on me now though! The original will remain superior x the video is cute too, not her best not her worst. I just don’t know if Ice Spice’s unbothered/low-key style of rapping works for this track, I kinda feel like Cardi would’ve been perfect on this track. Really hope it can go top 10 tho!! Also hits different is fab, it gives off such perfect mid-2000s teen soundtrack vibes and I adore it for that 😍
