It is maddening that careers can be made by these artists in this chart era, back in the day they’d have had one big hit and 5-6 depreciating smaller hits before disappearing. Whereas Sigala and co have been around nearly a decade now!

That still applies for quite a few artists though doesn't it?

I’m talking about faceless dance acts particularly though!

That's fair! Although there are the likes of MEDUZA, Regard, Sigma & Camelphat that had at least a couple of hits before falling away (in the chart at least).

Black Box are a good example of the way it went in the late 80s

It is maddening that careers can be made by these artists in this chart era, back in the day they’d have had one big hit and 5-6 depreciating smaller hits before disappearing. Whereas Sigala and co have been around nearly a decade now!

Streaming is good for artists in terms of long term income. People will often go back to listen to music they love and now going back to the music means a paid stream rather than replaying the CD you bought ages ago.

 

This is offset a bit by the sheer amount of music that is released now though

You wouldn’t get the dance acts of the noughties/early teens doing these collabs with well known acts like you do now. This has made a big impact on dj charting careers. David Guetta for example has pretty much stayed relevant through features.

You wouldn’t get the dance acts of the noughties/early teens doing these collabs with well known acts like you do now. This has made a big impact on dj charting careers. David Guetta for example has pretty much stayed relevant through features.

You make a good point, bit I don't think David Guetta is a good example to use because he's not faceless at all. He appears in a lot of his music videos, he does photoshoots, he goes on chat shows like Graham Norton. If he walked in any town or city here people would recognise him.

 

A lot of other dance artists don't do those things and are pretty much faceless, at best you might hear an interview of them on the radio. In a lot of cases people don't even know whether they're 1 person or a group. I had no idea what Sigala looked like (until I googled him just now), even though I've been hearing his songs for 10 years now.
