I can't at people calling the Ed album a flop... It's almost silver already on less than a week of sales and already the biggest selling album of the year, yet it's a flop!? All those people have been waiting gleefully to jump out and say it too... so pathetic.

Can't wait for the lewis capaldi flop comments in a few weeks when he doesn't debut with 500k :P :P
Where is Freya today in the album chart?

If its not top 100 as provided in the links, only god knows ^_^

Just saw, #91.

Jessie at #48 too, tough fall for last week's newbies!

Such a shame she couldn’t do the Coronation Concert - potentially would have softened her fall this week but at the moment it’s highly likely it’s going to be 7-out

Last week's Top 5 new entries fared thus:

1-OUT Lottery Winners

2-2 Nines

3-48 Jessie Ware

4-38 The National

This sort of thing is normal, not many people care about week 2 and beyond anymore.

So true isn't it...an album with staying power is so much more rare now.

I don’t think Subtract is a flop at all. He’s been releasing music so frequently there was very little hype, it lacks a proper hit single and is his least commercial sounding since +
It wasn't in the first look top 20 however I'm sure we are all relieved to see Green Green Grass at number 13 confirming it has avoided ACR again !!
I’m sure he’ll be at least a little bothered by the rapid downward trajectory his sales have been on regardless of chart positions

I’m sure when he’s clutching the #1 award and a gold disc for the first weeks sales he’ll get over it

Last time Ed released an album, his sales were compared to those of Adele and ABBA, who released in the same year. I think, in the end, Ed went on to score more sales, even though he fell short in the first week.

I would imagine this time around he will be compared to Lewis Capaldi when he releases? Whoever ends up getting the most chart sales in the end is to be seen.

As said before, - is not a flop (it's number one, it's the fastest seller of the year so far and it's sold over 50k in half a week), but it's defo an underperformance when compared to Ed's last album or two. Whether it becomes a flop by Ed's standards will be seen in time.

For the record... I think it's already sold around what I predicted in the thread that it would sell in its whole first week.

Yeah god forbid we acknowledge the massive drop in sales

Lewis Capaldi will 100% sell more than Ed Sheeran, in the long run if not in week 1, as his album has three #1 hits on it and Ed's only has one
I'm still not sure what the point is of calling something a "flop" whether it be Ed's album or anything else. What does it matter? It's going to reach #1 regardless and it's not as though his livelihood depends on whether it sells 50k or 200k. He might have sold less than you expected, but it seems an odd take to keep pursuing the argument.

Acknowledge whatever you like - it’s a forum that’s what they are generally for, just everyone doesn’t have the same opinion.

Is that also taking into account massive drop in album sales in general :P

Predicted Ed would be on 40-60k on the predictions threat so he’s going to break that I would imagine so he’s doing fine now despite the fall from the previous release. There’s been an acknowledged lack of hype as others have noted he’s never went away since the previous era and had one hit single as opposed to 3 off the previous release so the streams are probably a lot lower. Lol at the term flop being thrown around by the usual suspects!

I find the album charts almost completely pointless now. Albums have gone from mainstream products to fanbase souvenir purchases, and we’re supposed to care when the weekly chart is a mix of ‘who has the biggest fanbase or best promo campaign this week’ combined rather haphazardly with ‘which artists’ hits playlists are streaming best this week’.

I mean 7-91 for Freya is crazy. She’s no longer a singles artist, clearly not an albums artist if she’s diving over 80 places on her second week, so what is she now by the traditional definition of one or the other?

Ed’s sales are higher than I expected though personally, which is good, I thought he’d get about 50k for the week.
