BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hits for 2023 week 16 are Post Malone - Chemical and Taylor Swift - Karma.

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hits for 2023 week 17 are The Weeknd - Double Fantasy (feat. Future) and Florence + The Machine - Mermaids.

Using the debut chart position as a tiebreaker, 'Chemical' and 'Double Fantasy' will also auto-qualify for the April monthly round, but the other two will also be included in the list of weekly winners to date.

The first 15 polls passed without any tied winners and then we get two in a row! And as it happens all 4 songs getting exactly 20 votes. A pair of Americans jointly win week 16. Post Malone's presumed lead single from a forthcoming 5th studio album (though for now just tacked onto a stream-trolling greatest hits set of sort alongside his 8 US diamond-certified singles) saw him return to the pop rock sound of 'Circles' and nab his highest peak of the decade to date, though still falling short of the top 10 thus far. 'Karma' is the third track from Taylor Swift's 10th album 'Midnights' to make a belated debut this year after being initially denied a chart position by the 3 track rule, it does what the others (and 'All Of The Girls You Loved Before') couldn't and comes out on (joint) top of the poll despite being by far the worst song on the album. Week 17 brings us our first Canadian winner in the form of The Weeknd's latest single which teases a soundtrack album for his forthcoming HBO drama series The Idol, and also features American rapper Future, though continues the 80s style synth leanings of his last two albums. British indie rockers Florence + The Machine share the glory with a new track that's now been tacked on as an extra to their 5th album 'Dance Fever' which came out last year, an excellent album and this song very much keeping up that quality.

From week 16 it's quicker to list the songs that didn't get to 10 votes than those that did - poor brave Strandz is stranded in the single digits alone, managing a measly 3 votes. Sigala and his cast of thousands are in 3rd place, 4 votes behind the joint leaders, then it's joint 4th for the two top 3 debuts of the week from Lewis Capaldi and David Kushner, 6th for Jorja Smith, 7th for Ice Spice (and OCC-uncredited Nicki Minaj) and 8th for Jazzy's lead artist chart debut, all pulling in respectable numbers. It's more spread out in week 17 - Tyler, The Creator doesn't get a second poll winner but still manages a solid 3rd place, 3 votes behind the joint winners and actually 2 votes more than he got for his own winner 3 polls back. Two more songs break the double figure mark, with Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj (this time credited) coming in 4th and Rudimental et al. in 5th. The Ed Sheeran defence squad seem to have sat out more than usual as 'Boat' doesn't manage double figures, even 'F64' did before, shame as this is easily my favourite of his hits so far this year but ho hum. The only song that fails to get to 5 votes here is not surprising, what is surprising is that HStikkytokky and General G managed to get the same number of votes as Strandz. That's 3 people who were smart enough to not publicly admit to it to avoid the wrath of my eternal judgement xx

We're back up to date now, hooray! And just in time for this rather uninspiring week, only 6 new entries (totalling 17 minutes and 32 seconds), 1/3 of them are by Nines and another is by the still solitary member of the 0 votes club Clavish. Jack Harlow is hardly BuzzJack ear candy either. Niall vs. The National & T-Swizzle it is methinks (maybe 4th time lucky for Taylor to get a monthly round auto-qualifier?) Aside, I notice Spotify is now crediting someone called Aisa on 'Calendar', but the credit hasn't been changed anywhere else as of yet and I can't find many relevant Google results regarding Aisa's involvement in the song so I've kept it credited to Nines solo in the poll.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Sunday evening :jump: April monthly round thread coming up shortly x

Favela is a bit of a banger. Easily my favourite of the 3 Nines tracks to chart recently. Calendar is practically a 2023 remake of Jay-Z's 'Girls Girls Girls' but not as fun.

The Jack Harlow and Clavish tracks are far from their worst but not particular exciting. The Alcott is ok but is a bit dull. Meltdown is a huge improvement on 'Heaven' for me but still nothing that I'd listen to.

I've voted for the two Nines tracks this week.

Just voted for The National this week, not the best on the album (justice for Eucalyptus) but a welcome return to the chart, thanks to the Taylor feature.
I was close to null voting, but plumped for Niall in the end

Same here.

Was tempted with Jack as well but don’t think I would realistically choose to listen to it again.

My ranking of this week's entries

Just voted for The National

  1. Niall Horan - Meltdown (#62)
  2. Nines - Calendar (#19)
  3. Jack Harlow - They Don't Love It (#76)
  4. Nines - Favela (feat. J Styles) (#34)
  5. The National - The Alcott (feat. Taylor Swift) (#90)
  6. Clavish - Day Date (#73)

Very poor week, none of these will go on my playlist but I suppose I'll give Niall a tactical vote to give The National some competition

Nines - Calendar (#19) - the lyrics to this made me laugh, can't believe he borrowed lyrics from hopsin's happy ending! and then the zodiac verse lol

Nines - Favela (feat. J Styles) (#34) - not much to this one, definitely a skip

Niall Horan - Meltdown (#62) - the beat reminds me of something but can't quite place it, this ain't as good as heaven either way

Clavish - Day Date (#73) - standard rap fodder but the beat elevates this one

Jack Harlow - They Don't Love It (#76) - very inspired sample use (original singer doesn't even have a wiki page apparently), but sub-par rapping

The National - The Alcott (feat. Taylor Swift) (#90) - knew i wouldn't like this after 10 seconds, deathly dull

Just Nines & Clavish this week.

1 'Meltdown' 8/10

2 'The Alcott' 8/10

3 'Favela' 7.5/10

4 'They Don't Love It' 6/10

5 'Day Date' 6/10

6 'Calendar' 1/10

Voted for the top 3, nothing I immediately stan from this week, The National song was sounding kind of boring from the first minute honestly but it did get a lot better when Taylor showed up and I enjoyed the vocal interplay for the remainder of the song, I can see that growing on me more. 'Meltdown' is much more like it from Niall after not really getting into 'Heaven', a bit of a bop. 'Tony Soprano 2' is easily still the best of the Nines hits but I was kind of grooving to 'Favela' too, reminds me a bit of Young T & Bugsey's hits, 'Calendar' though is straight in the garbage, the production is decent I guess but wasted on a pretty drab song with extremely offputting lyrics. There are also songs by Jack Harlow and Clavish here. They exist. They're fine. x

New poll coming up momentarily ~
