Thanks to the 38 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:

Official results from week 18:

[ 19 ] The National - The Alcott (feat. Taylor Swift) (#90)

[ 16 ] Niall Horan - Meltdown (#62)

[ 7 ] Nines - Calendar (#19)

[ 7 ] Jack Harlow - They Don't Love It (#76)

[ 6 ] Nines - Favela (feat. J Styles) (#34)

[ 2 ] Clavish - Day Date (#73)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 18 and auto-qualifying for the May monthly round is The National - The Alcott (feat. Taylor Swift).

As expected it's a fairly clear top 2 here for the two non-rap songs which are the only songs to get to double figure votes. American indie rock band The National take the win with 'The Alcott', an album track from their 9th studio album 'First Two Pages Of Frankenstein', which nonetheless outperformed all but one of the singles in their over 20 year long career, providing them only their second top 100 hit following the 2005 #83 hit 'Abel' (though they have had more success in the albums chart with their new release being their 5th top 10 including a #1 in 2017). The success of this track may have just a smidge to do with the featured artist, fellow American and slightly hotter topic Taylor Swift, who repays the favour after The National (and particularly member Aaron Dessner)'s contributions to her 'folklore' and 'evermore' albums. It's Taylor's second poll win in quick succession after 'Karma' two weeks earlier, although it's her first monthly round auto-qualifier due to 'Karma' missing out on a tiebreak with it being a joint poll winner. The song picks up votes from 19 people, exactly half of the voters, and finishes 3 votes ahead of Niall Horan, who also finished second in the poll with his previous single.

The also-rans mostly perform relatively ok (I am surprised that 'Calendar' got more votes than 'Favela' from the Nines tracks but hey x), 3 of the 4 getting to either 6 or 7 votes. Poor brave Clavish though continues to be the black sheep of this poll as he once again finishes last and with only 2 votes this time.

A slightly longer and more diverse list of entries to pick from this week (albeit still a bit short on obvious BuzzJack favourites - Harry Styles for the win? wouldn't be mad, it is one of the best songs on his album), back up to 11 songs totalling 32 minutes and 10 seconds. The Victony track is a remix (the original was just Victony and Tempoe) but I've only included the Don Toliver/Rema version on the playlist as that seems to be the main driver of its chart success and has been credited by the OCC, as ever if anyone particularly strongly cares for the original over the remix feel free to vote based on that.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Sunday evening :jump: The April monthly round will also remain open until then if anyone is yet to vote in that, with the results dropping alongside those for this week's poll.

Nothing to massively shout about this but there's a few alright songs.

'Soweto' is one of the more interesting afrobeats tracks to chart recently and 'Back 2 Back' is better than I was expecting. Tunde is a better Manchester MC than Aitch. 'Favorite Part' had some annoying elements but also some decent ones.

On a purely musical level, 'Scrap The Monarch' is their best sounding song (at least, since 'Use My A******* as a C***') and 'How Does It Feel was a massive shock. The first thing Tom has released that isn''t a complete snoozefest since 'Found What I've Been Looking For'. 'Curtains' is Ed Sheeran's best for quite a while too!

'Healing' and 'Satellite' are both incredibly forgettable and while it's interesting for an American rapper to make a 'Russ & Tion Wayne' reference, 'MATHEMATICAL DISRESPECT' is pretty rubbish.

We really didn't need Luude recruiting Bru-C to try and ruin Kevin Lyttle's classic and Bring Me The Horizon might be my least favourite artist that has gained multiple top 40 hits over the past few years; their music is just not for me at all.

I'm feeling generous so I voted for my top 4.

Definitely feels like a man’s world this week.

I went for Tom, Harry, BMTH and Ed. Suspect Victony will be a grower though.

Krown Jewelz (good)

Luude (quite good)

Tion Wayne (decent)

Bring Me The Horizon (decent)

Victony (okay)

Ed Sheeran (okay)

Harry Styles (okay)

Tunde (okay)

Tom Grennan (meh)

Lil Mabu (crap)

Toosii (crap and boring)

Bumping this as it fell to page 2, a couple of days left to vote. The next poll is going to be pretty loaded, looking forward to seeing how dominated its results will be by the Eurovision songs.
