May 22, 20232 yr If she can get playlist support it could grow into a hit. Songs these days can take a few weeks to really take off and I'm hoping that can happen with padam padam. I think with acts like Kylie the 1st week is everything in terms of peak chart position.
May 22, 20232 yr I think with acts like Kylie the 1st week is everything in terms of peak chart position. Dancing, Say Something and Magic all actually peaked during the album release week and I think this will also be the case for the first two singles from Tension.
May 22, 20232 yr The Sun actually had an article last week, saying Dani and Kylie were going hesd to hesd in the charts!!!  Head to head to see who can get top 100 more like.
May 22, 20232 yr Not great at all, its pathetic… if Kylie can’t achieve top 20 with a song that huge and so instant then she never will chart ever again…. It’s her biggest sinxe CGYOOMH so a top 20 should be the target, not top 75… WE'RE IN THE STREAMING ERA. Any veteran legacy act getting a top 40 single outside of Christmas these days is an achievement in itself. You have ridiculous & lofty expectations hoping for an artist who debuted 35 years ago to chart like Dua Lipa or Taylor Swift. Edited May 22, 20232 yr by Ne Plus Ultra
May 22, 20232 yr Taylor Swift debuted almost twenty years ago now tbf... 2009 is 14 years ago and Taylor is only 33 but Kylie is 55 in the end of the month.
May 22, 20232 yr I can't tell if this is a troll post or not. I was thinking the same thing, surely it can't have been a serious post. With it being Kylie's most instant and catchiest single in ages though, I am kinda hoping it can maybe grab a few weeks in the Top 100. All it needs is a little streaming support. And radio 2 normally playlist her, right?
May 23, 20232 yr Would be nice if Kylie did hold on or if not climb in at another stage. Does need more support though.
May 23, 20232 yr If it gains momentum and acquires crucial Spotify playlist support, Padam might ascend in subsequent weeks. Yes it is much harder for legacy acts. For example, Whitney Houston barely scraped into the top 40 with Higher Love in its first week back in 2019 (it entered at #36) but gradually won streaming support to peak at #2 about 2 months later and recently was certified triple platinum. I suppose it did have the added advantage of having a recognisable "current" collaborator in Kygo but still it will be interesting see how Kylie fares over the next month.
May 23, 20232 yr 2009 is 14 years ago and Taylor is only 33 but Kylie is 55 in the end of the month. Her debut album was 2006, 17 years id say that counts as almost 20 , , she might not of impacted here until 200i8 though
May 23, 20232 yr I'd say even later Taylor really wasn't much here till Red and even to more of an extent 1989
May 23, 20232 yr I think Padam Padam is dire! Kylie’s voice is now thin and even more breathy and childlike than ever. Just don’t get the appeal of this at all. However, huge kudos to her (and her great team) in keeping the momentum going; the foundations are flimsy but her fanbase is super loyal. As already said, it’s an uphill battle in the steaming era for veteran artists to get a top 75 entry, and so a top 75 entry would be a huge achievement… paving the way for another #1 album.
May 23, 20232 yr Her debut album was 2006, 17 years id say that counts as almost 20 , , she might not of impacted here until 200i8 though [/quote Hi my hun Yes almost 20 years but not 20 years and Kylie has been releasing music for about 35/36 years so a big difference. Lets see if Taylor is getting number 1 albums in 17 years time. Just Carol Honey ❤️
May 23, 20232 yr Is Kesha's Gag Order album in the midweeks? I thought she would at least make top 100 on the first update
May 23, 20232 yr Not great at all, its pathetic… if Kylie can’t achieve top 20 with a song that huge and so instant then she never will chart ever again…. It’s her biggest sinxe CGYOOMH so a top 20 should be the target, not top 75… I'm sure you are trolling and know better but Kylie, Mariah, Janet, Madonna and all other "older" females struggle to get anywhere in the UK singles chart these days unless they have a younger collaborator or a tiktok trend attached to a song.
May 23, 20232 yr is Kylie doing any kind of promo for the single this week? She did American Idol and is constantly getting talked about (= free promo) on Lorraine. Edited May 23, 20232 yr by Voodoo
May 23, 20232 yr 2009 is 14 years ago and Taylor is only 33 but Kylie is 55 in the end of the month. I mean Taylors debut was 18 years ago. But even so, Kylie was getting Top 5 hits 18 years into her career and was approaching her 40s!
May 23, 20232 yr In short, Taylor Swift debuted 17 years ago - but that first album era was seemingly restricted to the US and Canada. Her international breakthrough came with the release of Love Story and her second album Fearless, in 2009 (14 years ago). Taylor Swift (Current age: 33 years, 5 months) Debut single release: 'Tim McGraw' - 16 years and 11 months ago [19th June 2006] (Age at the time: 16 years, 6 months) Debut album release: 'Taylor Swift' - 16 years and 7 months ago [24th October 2006] (Age at the time: 16 years, 10 months) Her UK debuts: First single to chart: 'Love Story' - 14 years and 3 months ago [22nd February 2009] (Age at the time: 19 years, 2 months) First album to chart: 'Fearless' - 14 years and 2 months ago [15th March 2009] (Age at the time: 19 years, 3 months) Kylie Minogue (Current age: She will be 55 in five days time) Debut single release: 'Locomotion' - 35 years and 10 months ago [13th July 1987] (Age at the time: 19 years, 1 month) Debut album release: 'Kylie' - 34 years and 10 months ago [4th July 1988] (Age at the time: 20 years, 1 month) Her UK debuts: First single to chart: 'I Should Be So Lucky' - 35 years and 4 months ago [10th January 1988] (Age at the time: 19 years, 7 months) First album to chart: 'Kylie' - 34 years and 10 months ago [10th July 1988] (Age at the time: 20 years, 1 month) It's anyone's guess what the charts and music consumption will be look like in 20+ years from now, and whether Taylor will still be able to score big #1s or Top 10 singles into her 50s - or if the threshold will be "maybe Top 40 is possible", just like it is for Kylie. I think it's excellent and exciting that Kylie is possibly able to get a new Top 40 single, 35 years into her career! Far from pathetic. :o
