Plus as has already been pointed out, two of these (including the current one) weren't even #1 albums originally.

 

Like, I'm sure if Madonna had re-recorded Erotica or Bedtime Stories and it was heading for #1 you'd have no problem proclaiming it as a #1 for her.

 

I would expect it to be classed as a the same as the original album, not a new one. That is the point I'm getting at.

You sure seem to expend a lot of time and energy on someone you supposedly don't like. Not sure what Taylor has done to get so much under your skin but both artists are hugely successful, will be remembered as icons of their generation, and the success of one doesn't diminish the other.

Actually this is one of the most out there comments I've ever read on Buzzjack. Yes, she must be bland and plain and rubbish to be selling out stadiums worldwide, crashing ticket sites and and breaking all kind of records. And we've reached new heights of nonsense. Sure, she has some hardcore stans who act like she's the messiah and watching her take a dump would be an artistic masterpiece... oh yeah so does Madge. But c'mon do you really believe yourself when you claim that everybody else thinks she's 'bland' and 'rubbish', she's one of the biggest artist in the world right now, a LOT of people like and appreciate her music. If you don't that's fine, personally I have some very mixed views on her catalogue, but your personal dislike doesn't invalidate her achievements. The sales she's doing with this album would be very impressive for a brand new release in today's climate, never mind a re-recording of a 12 year old album.

 

 

Why are we even comparing them? Madonna and Taylor Swift are both hugely talented, iconic, successful and influential in their own ways. Let's not pit successful women against each other please.

i dont understand how this is even worthy of arguement speak now (taylor's version) is a NEW album because its NEW vocals, instrumentals, the whole lot. it even has new songs on it. its not the same album because its been re-made making it new. its not a re-release which would warrant it being combined with the old verion, its entirely new version. and also it would be a new #1 anyway cos og speak now never made #1

Ah gotcha, I get a little touchy on neurological stuff, but the internet & tone are never the best of friends :lol: Admittedly also I'm not a fan of the whole 'X artist is unilaterally bad/evil, Y artist is unilaterally perfect/righteous' narrative. It's the sort of thing that'll get someone to say that someone is the villain for wanting control of their own masters ;) There's an essay in this that I don't have enough energy to type up.

I don't hate Taylor Swift at all, I love her song Anti hero, I stream it loads. What I don't like is chart manipulation, imo it's not a new album and my mind won't be charged by anyone. When Ed Sheeran does it, people complain but when it comes to Taylor Swift you can't say nothing. I guess she could always get some signed CDs in again. When Leona Lewis released a deluxe version of Spirit it wasn't classed as a new album even though it had new songs and a bonus DVD. It's one rule for one and not the other. That is what I'm complaining about.
