2006 was quite the year for dance music. We've seen bits of electro in the previous few years but it really started to become a big genre by this year, with big hits from the likes of Bodyrox, Chicane, David Guetta vs. The Egg, Fedde Le Grand and Oakenfold. For Guetta it was his first top ten hit out of many, the other newcomers weren't so lucky. Meanwhile loop house was still big with hits from Beatfreakz, Hi_Tack and Sunblock, which took inspiration from sounds of the 80s - the former two sampling Michael Jackson and the latter sampling the theme from 'Baywatch'. We also have Bob Sinclar & Cutee B who sampled C&C Music Factory for his biggest hit to date. With a little help from house producer Seamus Haji, Booty Luv launched their career with 'Boogie 2Nite'. The duo were previously in RnB group Big Brovaz. Cascada launched their career with the huge 'Everytime We Touch', which again brought to the mainstream attention the 'clubland' brand of dance. They also followed it up with a cover version from Savage Garden which was also big enough of a hit to land in the top 15 sellers. And to finish with another reworking, The Source re-released 'You Got The Love' yet again with a new remix, just years before Florence + The Machine would cover the song and take it to the top ten two more times (including a live mashup version with Dizzee Rascal).

2007 Results

 

Another big win for Calvin Harris, with 'Acceptable' as did 'I'm Not Alone' for 2009, with a bigger margin although due to a higher voting turnout. I wasn't expecting Cascada to end up 2nd but there they are, a big improvement from their 15th place finish in the 2017 edition. Alex Gaudino who won that round doesn't even place top 10 here meanwhile. Great news particularly elsewhere in the top 5 is Mason just about doing enough to pass through, and we also get Groove Armada and Freemasons in.

Could have voted for quite a few more of these as well. I always thought of Voodoo Child by Rogue Traders as a dance song, it appeared on lots of dance compilations at the time too, but I see it's considered more as a pop/alternative indie song going by Google's definition.
