Official results from week 28:

[ 23 ] Taylor Swift - Enchanted (Taylor's Version) (#15)

[ 22 ] Taylor Swift - I Can See You (#6)

[ 15 ] Kali Uchis - Moonlight (#100)

[ 13 ] NewJeans - Super Shy (#59)

[ 7 ] Tory Lanez and Trippie Redd - Hurts Me (feat. Yoko Gold) (#92)

[ 4 ] D-Block Europe - Potential (#48)

[ 2 ] Prinz and Gabriela Bee - Highs & Lows (#99)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 28 and auto-qualifying for the July monthly round is Taylor Swift - Enchanted (Taylor's Version).

As expected this week was a battle between two songs from US superstar Taylor Swift's latest album re-recording 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)' - one a never before heard song from the vault which landed a top 10 placement thanks to a music video, the other an album track from the original album that already experienced recent TikTok virality but never managed to make the top 100 in its original version, making the top 15 in re-recorded form. Both managed to get the support of, just about, at least half of voters but in the end it is the more established 'Enchanted' which pips the vault track 'I Can See You' to the win here, finishing just one vote ahead. Taylor becomes the first artist to win three of these polls (albeit one of those being a joint win, with 'Enchanted (Taylor's Version)' becoming only her second auto-qualifier due to my on-the-fly tiebreak decision which I've still only had to invoke twice so far). Two more tracks also make it to double figures, with it again being a clean split between female and male artists - Kali Uchis, finally scraping the top 100 after several weeks of bubbling with a song that first came out in February, comes in 3rd place 7 votes behind Taylor, while NewJeans don't quite replicate the poll success of their earlier hit but still manage a solid 4th place a further 2 votes behind.

2 of the 3 offerings of the week by male artists fell short of 5 votes. Prinz had an earlier appearance in one of these polls with a song that he wasn't credited on with the OCC (that Rushawn thing) which came last in its poll with only 1 vote. Now he has a new hit which he is definitely credited on and is rewarded by coming last in the poll again but with a 100% improvement to 2 votes. D-Block Europe's latest also-ran sees them return to their sub 5 vote comfort zone after the shockingly high 7 votes 'Pakistan' got; this one has got 4. Somewhat surprisingly Tory Lanez got as many as 7 votes but to be fair it was better than those other 2 songs.

After a few weeks in a row with 7 new entries it's a slightly longer list of 13 songs this week totalling 39 minutes and 32 seconds, including a healthy dose of UK rap, a couple of first time charting dance acts scraping in low down and another throwback from Lana Del Rey (this time a song that was already released all the way back on 'Born To Die' but never charted until this week). Sadly no show for SOVUDUWRISOMINOVIGEBROPHESTURAKESLIRAJACROVOJOSTEGACIRODRUVORIWITIMIDROMI, though her alter ego Lauren Spencer Smith (having now seemingly dropped the hyphen from her name) did manage to stay in from the midweeks. Guessing it'll be Troye's for the taking this week but a few others that could be competitive.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

You have until Sunday evening to vote :jump: (with usual disclaimer of might be left open a bit longer if I am bad at timekeeping and/or get distracted when I start working on the new thread and end up dropping it a couple of days late)

And here are the results from the June monthly round... (with thanks to the 34 people that voted in that, a new record! :cheer:)

Unfortunately it is the end of the road for these:

10 121 Dave and Central Cee - Trojan Horse

9 152 Taylor Swift - Hits Different

8 169 Leigh-Anne - Don't Say Love

7 174 Dave and Central Cee - Sprinter

6 181 Jain - Makeba

5 206 Hannah Laing and RoRo - Good Love

Still in with a chance of making the final for the year is...

4 210 The Weeknd, Playboi Carti and Madonna - Popular

Which means our next 3 guaranteed spots in the yearly round go to Dua Lipa, Nathan Dawe/Joel Corry/Ella Henderson and Peggy Gou :cheer: There was no competition at all for the winner of this month, Peggy Gou being a whole 88 points clear of 2nd place and getting the highest scoring song in a monthly round to date, the first to crack 300 points (far surpassing the old record of 236 for P!nk's 'TRUSTFALL' in February, though with the caveat that this round also had more voters than the previous ones). She received the full 12 points from 15/34 voters and placed in the top 3 for 26/34! An early favourite for the all-out win for the year? Dua finished in a distant but fairly comfortable 2nd place, 16 points ahead of Nathan et al. It was a close 3 way race for 3rd through 5th, so sad times for Hannah Laing and RoRo who miss out on the chance to progress (despite her total of 206 points being enough to place top 3 in every previous monthly round, bar February where Lana Del Rey's 'A&W' also got 206 in 3rd), they finished 4 points behind The Weeknd et al. who were themselves only 3 points off the podium but go forward to the playoff round. Interestingly 4 out of 6 songs in the playoff round so far are male vocal lead, while only 3 out of 18 direct qualifiers are. I went into this round expecting the two Dave/Central Cee songs would probably finish 9th and 10th, but 'Sprinter' put in a decent showing to come 7th, beating Leigh-Anne and Taylor Swift. Miley Cyrus is still the only artist who's had 2 songs finish in a monthly top 4, with 'Flowers' being a direct qualifier and 'River' in the playoff.

3 213 Nathan Dawe, Joel Corry and Ella Henderson - 0800 HEAVEN

2 229 Dua Lipa - Dance The Night

1 317 Peggy Gou - (It Goes Like) Nanana

My ratings for last week:

1 'I Can See You' 9/10

2 'Super Shy' 8.5/10

3 'Moonlight' 7.5/10

4 'Hurts Me' 6.5/10

5 'Enchanted (Taylor's Version)' 5/10

6 'Highs & Lows' 3/10

7 'Potential' 2/10

Voted for the top 3. Definitely thinking the wrong Taylor song won the poll but nevermind! I really like 'I Can See You', has a really strong and sticky chorus and love the guitar riff in the instrumental, reminds me a little of Post Malone's indie pop leaning hits ('Circles'/'Chemical'). 'Enchanted' on the other hand I had never heard before but didn't think it lived up to the hype sadly, find it to drag quite a bit and it's just a little on the boring side and a bit Disney Channel, I appreciate that it's a well written song though, just not really for me (still better than 'Mine'). I listened to the original version of it as well and would give both versions the same score, not really any differences worth remarking on. NewJeans are still feeling like a breath of fresh air in the K-Pop scene, another really cute song with great production, I endorse further NewJeans/PinkPantheress-isation of the rest of the genre pls x 'Moonlight' actually took a while to grow on me so good thing it took a while to enter the chart too, not my fave on the Kali album (wish 'I Wish You Roses' had been a hit instead / as well) but gave into its vibes eventually. Don't know why we've let Tory Lanez have another hit but it's kind of a fragment of a song with I think more vocals from Trippie than Tory, I do like the instrumental and am generally quite partial to Trippie Redd and he does pretty well on the song, and Tory doesn't sound totally unbearable himself I guess, begrudgingly a decent song (slightly better than 'The Color Violet') though not quite vote worthy. Prinz is really just painfully corny, the "drill" version of Cat Burns. But DBE once again take the worst of the week with more terrible sounding autotune vocals and lyrics that seem designed to piss me off, although Dirtbike LB's verse is ok so that bumps it up a point. Still think this is the 2nd worst of their hits of the year so far, hopefully we're getting a break from them for a while again now.

Hannah Laing so close to progessing from the monthly poll!

Just voted for that most 2023 of hits from Lana this week. Billie's song is nice but can't see it becoming a huge favourite for me.

Liked almost all the new entries this week. Only ones I didn’t care for were Fredo and the Rave Out song.

1. Post Malone - Overdrive

2. Troye Sivan - Rush

3. Sonny Fodera & MK (feat. Clementine Douglas) - Asking

4. Oxlade (feat. Dave) - INTOXYCATED

-

5. Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For?

6. Lana Del Rey - Radio

7. Becky Hill & Chase & Status - Disconnect

8. Turno, Skepsis and Charlotte Plank - Rave Out

9. Lauren Spencer Smith - Bigger Person

10. J Hus - Militerian (feat. Naira Marley) - Militerian

11. Jung Kook (feat. Latto) - Seven

12. Fredo (feat. Tiggs Da Author) - Scoreboard

Jung Kook - Seven (feat. Latto) (#3) - pretty shite

Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For? (#10) - for her standards this is not bad, prob cos it's in her higher register so reminds me of her best song when the partys over - no chance of a vote though

Troye Sivan - Rush (#22) - this is SUCH a vibe, bravo troye

J Hus - Militerian (feat. Naira Marley) (#23) - "aks" alert!!! bit too ploddy for my liking

J Hus - Masculine (feat. Burna Boy) (#24) - don't really know what this song's trying to achieve. 3:24 of nothingness...

Becky Hill and Chase And Status - Disconnect (#25) - unhinged banger! wouldn't look out of place on no more idols, top notch stuff

Post Malone - Overdrive (#45) - HATE this new direction he appears to be going in

Oxlade - INTOXYCATED (feat. Dave) (#49) - very smooth like silk, a big improvement on ku lo sa

Fredo - Scoreboard (feat. Tiggs Da Author) (#69) - shakespeare lyric made me lol, gotta be honest - another strong fredo track - man's upped his game (although tiggs is the highlight on this)

Lana Del Rey - Radio (#78) - what's this doing here? Love this one, one of my faves from BTD!

Lauren Spencer Smith - Bigger Person (#92) - EURGH that voice! :puke2:

Turno, Skepsis and Charlotte Plank - Rave Out (#93) - read that as skepta at first and was waiting for his part lol. this is fire, charlotte plank confirmed as the new becky hill

Sonny Fodera and MK - Asking (feat. Clementine Douglas) (#95) - wow this is a serve :music: inject in into my veins...

Without doubt the widest chasm in quality this month. Voted Troye, Becky/C&S, Oxlade, Fredo, LDR, Turno & Sonny.

1. Oxlade - INTOXYCATED (feat. Dave)

2. J Hus - Masculine (feat. Burna Boy)

3. J Hus - Militerian (feat. Naira Marley)

4. Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For?

5. Post Malone - Overdrive

6. Fredo - Scoreboard (feat. Tiggs Da Author)

7. Lana Del Rey - Radio

8. Jung Kook - Seven (feat. Latto)

9. Troye Sivan - Rush

10. Sonny Fodera and MK - Asking (feat. Clementine Douglas)

11. Becky Hill and Chase And Status - Disconnect

12. Turno, Skepsis and Charlotte Plank - Rave Out

13. Lauren Spencer Smith - Bigger Person

This was definitely the closest I've been to nil voting. In the end, I've give my top 2 a vote but it's the weakest winners by far.

'INTOXYCATED' has a very throwaway Dave verse but it's fun. Neither of the J Hus tracks are anywhere near my favourites from the album but Burna really shines on 'Masculine' so I've give it a vote.

'What Was I Made For?' is pleasant and is growing on me after seeing the film but it's not one that I've been inspired to listen to of my own accord yet.

'Scoreboard' has a strong hook but I feel like I've heard this song 50x already from Fredo. He needs to mix it up a bit.

It's quite interesting that we've had 2 weeks in a row of K-Pop songs with heavy UK-vibes in the instrumentation but naming everyday of the week in the chorus sounds so clunky on 'Seven'.

'Rush' is pretty lively but the chorus feels like it's from a completely different song. Like a World Cup song or something

Nothing really to say about the rest apart from the vocals on 'Bigger Person' were quite grating. I haven't found her voice on any other song annoying though.

01. Lana Del Rey - Radio (#78)

02. Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For? (#10)

03. Troye Sivan - Rush (#22)

04. Sonny Fodera and MK - Asking (feat. Clementine Douglas) (#95)

05. Becky Hill and Chase And Status - Disconnect (#25)

06. Fredo - Scoreboard (feat. Tiggs Da Author) (#69)

07. Post Malone - Overdrive (#45)

08. Oxlade - INTOXYCATED (feat. Dave) (#49)

09. Turno, Skepsis and Charlotte Plank - Rave Out (#93)

10. J Hus - Militerian (feat. Naira Marley) (#23)

11. J Hus - Masculine (feat. Burna Boy) (#24)

12. Lauren Spencer Smith - Bigger Person (#92)

13. Jung Kook - Seven (feat. Latto) (#3)

Voted for as many as Lana, Billie and Troye this week so my strongest week of favourites in a while. Born To Die has spawned so many hits! I'm very much here for one of my teenage musical bibles also resonating with the next generation a decade later. Billie's song is easily my favourite from the Barbie soundtrack, rooting for it as a future #1. The first Troye song to make my personal chart was 'Happy Little Pill' 9 years ago and I've found him very consistent this whole time, 'Rush' is no exception.

Voted a bit earlier this time than I have for a little while :magic: hopefully will be good to get the next poll up on time tomorrow evening x

1 'What Was I Made For?' 9.5/10

2 'Radio' 8.5/10

3 'Scoreboard' 8/10

4 'Rush' 8/10

5 'Masculine' 7.5/10

6 'Rave Out' 7/10

7 'Seven' 6/10

8 'Disconnect' 6/10

9 'Militerian' 6/10

10 'INTOXYCATED' 5.5/10

11 'Overdrive' 5/10

12 'Asking' 5/10

13 'Bigger Person' 3/10

Voted for the top 5, a bit of a middling week overall. The Billie song is absolutely gorgeous, enhanced even further by the music video, Billie really nails these minimal ballads - initially felt she was an odd fit for a Barbie soundtrack but actually makes complete sense (not seen the film and don't plan to but can definitely imagine it hitting hard in context). I have heard the 'Born To Die' album but not for a long time so 'Radio' was a bit of a re-discovery for me, don't remember if I thought it was a highlight of the album when I first heard it but it's sounding great now so TikTok taste on point. 'Scoreboard' is a return to form after not being super into the last Fredo single, great instrumental, strong hook from Tiggs and some memorable lyrics throughout. The verses of 'Rush' give me Disclosure/Years & Years vibes (although better than most of Years & Years' recent material), the hook does kind of sound pasted from a different song but still fun if a bit cheesy, not Troye's finest work but happy to see him back in the charts and still a bop. Feel like J Hus was outshone by his features on both of his entries here, he's not bad on either of them but pretty forgettable, Burna Boy's parts of 'Masculine' are strong enough to make that song vote worthy, Naira Marley is solid too but 'Militerian' is pretty by the numbers afrobeats stuff that I'll instantly forget, same applies to the Oxlade song, was hoping the Dave verse would make that more interesting but a pretty middle of the road feature from him. 'Rave Out' is a mid tier banger, might be a grower, definitely liking it more than 'Dancing Is Healing' at least. Liking the UK garage influence on 'Seven' but Jung Kook doesn't quite nail it the way NewJeans did, not really feeling Latto's verse either, overall was a bit better than I expected but still just ok and probably the weakest of the solo BTS top 40 hits so far for me. 'Disconnect' is sadly closer to Becky dragging C&S down to her level than C&S dragging Becky up to theirs, but still makes for one of Becky's better hits, just feel the production is a bit watered down by C&S standards. The Post Malone song just sounds like a pretty mid album track, shame as I did really like the first 2 singles, hopefully there's still some better stuff elsewhere on the album. 'Asking' also pretty mid and has a few moments with some not so great sounding vocals oop (haven't noticed this being the case on previous Clementine features so shame this is the one to break through for her). 'Bigger Person' is... probably Lauren's best top 100 hit to date? It at least feels more like a proper song and not just a PSA with music behind it, but still pretty rough vocals as per.

Went for Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish and Chase & Status/Becky Hill!
