well done Kath - it just missed my votes but a good winner once again, with very nice hosting from St. Burbia :D Great to see my 18 in 4th, I was really captivated by Dimension's bopping there, great result for Thelonia. Trifoski not doing too badly either, great for the hyperpop rep

 

also very happy to see all of the songs I called to do well (and I always like to shout out contenders that I feel haven't been mentioned enough in the odds thread when I do xx) taking up the spots from 3rd-6th :D only a few pop songs were going to do very well and Hendinia was the obvious choice there

Congrats to Kath on yet another landslide win *.* This one peaked on first listen for me hence the drop in points compared to the semis, but still a great song and one that just about made it in to my votes so not one I can complain about!

 

It wasn't a particularly strong final for me and I DNQed so I've sadly not been the most engaged here, but very pleasing to have four of my top 6 smash as well. Strawberry Jam sounded like a Bjork and Kate Bush lovechild and was an instant winner so pleased to see it connect to others as well, Kalyna was a big favourite from last year so was tough for me to rank, but it still sounded amazing amongst this field and not surprised at all to see it smash, I hesitated trying at the time as it sounded so big and a certain veto. Fantastic to see Nelionoir get a big hit as this one was easily their best so far and an instant earworm, guess Lotunia could've used my 18 more given it was pretty close </3 Still, not much to complain about overall.

 

Thanks for a great hosting job Ben (great to see another host this year use the jury system as it's a lot of fun even if I wasn't here to witness it all), here's to not continuing this DNQ streak next time, this is not gonna go like last year x

Absolutely thrilled that we managed to nab a top 20 placement (our first in a good while!) What a triumph of a comeback. Thank you to everyone who voted for Hushkanukia. It was fab getting back into BJSC and obviously sending pop perfection with Kiana. However, with the summer holidays coming to an end and me going back to work, I will once again be bowing out. Who knows, maybe Hushky will make a return again before summer 2024? ✌️

...and yet it won the semi ahead of Kathaldazia! Clearly something about it wasn't completely connecting with the pop bloc nations particularly from semi 2 though (not that 13th is a terrible result or anything but definitely deserved better, though me liking a pop song enough to give it high points is probably always a red flag that there's something about it that won't play well to the pop bloc. Maybe too much of the appeal is in the production rather than the melody and whatnot).

Technically 278 points for Rhys - Too Good To Be True (Altyr Muunilinst 100) although BJSC 100 warps those stats due to using the 18 point system in the semis - ignoring that contest the highest is 186 points for The Naked And Famous - Higher (Cor Lupus 87). (Adjusting the points from the BJSC 100 semis to the 12 point system Rhys got the equivalent of 145 points).

According to Jade's handy Spotify playlist of the winners, it is the shortest at least out of those available on Spotify, surpassing Nora En Pure's 'Wetlands' (2:24). There are a few missing from the list though and not sure if some songs might have had shorter versions linked in the contest so can't say 100% for sure without digging into it more but probably yes.

Already have my next entry lined up anyhoo - it's about time for my annual rap/adjacent entry (which probably isn't the best idea to avoid getting a DNQ streak but I do think it's the kind of rap entry that might not be completely doomed x).

My twelfth time finishing 3rd *.* King of bronzes, and this has really exceeded expectations for me. Top of the pop songs with 5 18s and a third top 3 of the year, not bad going!

 

Not surprised at Kath winning again. Definitely got those feels from first listen and one I voted for, so happy to see it and well done! Hooray to Cadelicia and Thelonia too, both stand outs that deserved to rise to the top.

 

Again, shocked @ Lookylion missing top 10. Would’ve expected that swapped with my own end position. Great contest and great hosting!
