Thanks to the 49 people who participated in last week's 2 weeks ago's poll :jump:

Official results from week 30:

[ 20 ] Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken (#25)

[ 20 ] Ava Max - Choose Your Fighter (#90)

[ 19 ] Stormzy and RAYE - The Weekend (#23)

[ 14 ] ZAYN - Love Like This (#36)

[ 11 ] Sam Smith - Man I Am (#58)

[ 9 ] Lizzo - Pink (#39)

[ 9 ] beabadoobee - the way things go (#86)

[ 6 ] Travis Scott, Bad Bunny and The Weeknd - K-POP (#24)

[ 6 ] Ice Spice - Deli (#89)

[ 4 ] J Hus - Massacre (#53)

[ 3 ] The Kid LAROI - Forever & Again (#92)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hits for 2023 week 30 are Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken and Ava Max - Choose Your Fighter.

Using the debut chart position as a tiebreaker, 'I'm Just Ken' will also auto-qualify for the July monthly round.

Barbiemania reigns as for only the 3rd time in 30 weeks we have a tied winner and they're both songs from the Barbie soundtrack, following in the foosteps of the soundtrack's lead single 'Dance The Night'. One comes from Canadian actor and star of the film Ryan Gosling (the second Canadian to win one of these polls after The Weeknd) with his power ballad 'I'm Just Ken' which landed him his first top 40 hit, and later first top 20, though not his first charting single as he also previously had a minor hit with 'City Of Stars' from the La La Land soundtrack. The other is less integral to the film (I assume) but it is the first top 100 hit of the year for forum fave American singer Ava Max so of course it was also quite popular, and actually I think it's one of her best songs so I'm not going to complain. Both songs picked up 20 votes, a little over 2 in 5 of voters in a relatively low scoring week. It was very nearly a three way tie as Stormzy and RAYE came in 3rd place just one vote behind the leaders, while there were also double figure votes for ZAYN's top 40 comeback single in 4th place and another Barbie track from Sam Smith in 5th.

Barbie songs both top and tail the results as The Kid LAROI's contribution, actually an old song that had no connection to the film and didn't even appear in it but was nonetheless enough of an attention draw to make the top 100, finishes in last place with 3 votes. The only other track to fall short of 5 votes was J Hus' 'Massacre' which appeared on the chart a week late after being starred out by the 3 track rule, narrowly avoiding giving Hus last place 2 weeks in a row (and also having 4 votes, 1 more than the song he finished in last place with on the previous poll).

Due to planning ahead because the latest chart has so few new entries so barely worth its own thread procrastination it's another 2 in 1 poll this week so the usual extra options for if you only want to participate in one of the two polls, or you want to vote in both but wish to register that you don't think any of the songs are vote worthy (i.e. equivalent of a null vote).

For week 31 Travis Scott joins the list of artists to have their maximum 3 new entries in a week, and he's even got a fourth song in week 32 as well for good measure. I'm guessing none of them are too likely to win. It's pretty much rap and dance for the most part in both weeks, albeit some slightly more leftfield dance on offer than the usual thanks to Aphex Twin's latest EP having a short enough tracklist that its sales went to the singles chart instead of the albums - as such I've included all 4 tracks from the EP on the playlist (which includes an alternate version of the main single 'Blackbox Life Recorder 21f'), feel free to vote based on just the main song or any or all of the tracks from the EP. The rest of the songs are all only available in one version although noting that the Jazzy song is tagged as 'Club Edit' (or should that be 'Clurb Edit') for some reason. Week 31 has 14 songs on the playlist totaling 46 minutes and 3 seconds (including all 4 Aphex Twin tracks) and week 32 has just 5 songs totalling 17 minutes and 25 seconds, for a total combined playlist length of 1 hour and 3 minutes.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

Will get the July monthly round up shortly and aim to leave both open until next Sunday (20th) evening :jump:

For the first one I voted for two Travis tracks (FE!N & HYAENA), Calvin X Sam, Aphex Twin & Chase & Status. For the 2nd I only went for TELEKINESIS, apart from that its probably the weakest week of the year for me so far
voted for issey and cal x sam for week 1. didnt like desire at all at first, the instrumental was so wierd. its grown on me loads this week though! and week 2 was my first null vote :o nothing was good enough to get a vote this week imo

Week 31: voted for Desire, Baddadan and Aphex Twin's EP

Week 32: as expected, it's my first null vote in one of these too. Jazzy's was probably my nominal favourite, though I preferred her big hits with Belters Only (oops)

Week 31: Calvin Harris, Chase & Status, Aphex Twin (for track 1 of the EP primarily)

Week 32: Bebe Rexha, Jazzy, Beyond Chicago

Calvin Harris/Sam Smith and Issey Cross

Doja Cat

Everything else I’ve either not heard (yet) or don’t like.

Week 31

1. Drake and Central Cee - On The Radar Freestyle

2. Travis Scott - HYAENA

3. Travis Scott - MELTDOWN (feat. Drake)

4. Burna Boy - Big 7

5. Post Malone - Enough Is Enough

6. Aphex Twin - Blackbox Life Recorder 21f

7. Calvin Harris and Sam Smith - Desire

8. Chase And Status and Bou - Baddadan (feat. IRAH, Flowdan, Trigga and Takura)

9. Issey Cross - Bittersweet Goodbye

10. ArrDee and Bugzy Malone - One Direction

11. Travis Scott - FE!N (feat. Playboi Carti)

'On The Radar Freestyle' is getting my only vote for this week. It's by far the best thing Drake has done for a while and most of the reaction I've seen outside of this website seems to agree with that. His album might actually be listenable again if he keeps properly rapping like this again.

'HYAENA' is very Yeezus-lite but still mucb more interesting than his other 2 this week. 'FE!N' is terrible though. People need to stop putting Playboi Carti on their tracks, he always sounds horrible.

'Big 7' is such a massive stepdown from 'Sittin' On Top Of The World', 'Enough Is Enough' is too MOR to be memorable and 'Blackbox Life Recorder 21f' is listenable but I find that kind of music so forgetable.

'Desire' has one of the worst beats of the year but Sam Smith sounds fine. 'Baddadan' is just noise and nothing about 'Bittersweet Goodbye' works at all.

Bugzy is so much better than 'One Direction'. Why is he stooping himself to this?

Week 32

1. Doja Cat - Paint The Town Red

2. Travis Scott - TELEKINESIS (feat. SZA and Future)

3. Bebe Rexha and David Guetta - One In A Million

4. Jazzy - Feel It

5. Beyond Chicago, Majestic and Alex Mills - Million Dollar Bill

Just going in charting order this week with Doja getting my only vote. I don't really like any song this week but I'm going to ensure I give at minimum 1 song a vote each week.

'Paint The Town Red' is better than ‘Attention’ but still nowhere near her best. At least there is some evidence of the unique flows that make her interesting here.

'TELEKINESIS' feels like it goes on forever. Travis sounds like he's trying to be Kanye without any of the presence on the mic.

'When Love Takes Over' was rubbish enough the first time and 'One In A Million' does not improve on it. Unpopular opinion, but I honestly feel like 'Giving Me' is 100x more interesting than 'Feel It' and I don't really see how anyone could dance to 'Million Dollar Bill'. It completely sucks away any excitement from the original.

Week 31

01. Aphex Twin - Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760 [EP] (#79)

02. Calvin Harris and Sam Smith - Desire (#18)

03. Chase And Status and Bou - Baddadan (feat. IRAH, Flowdan, Trigga and Takura) (#31)

04. Travis Scott - HYAENA (#21)

05. Post Malone - Enough Is Enough (#52)

06. Drake and Central Cee - On The Radar Freestyle (#26)

07. Travis Scott - MELTDOWN (feat. Drake) (#10)

08. Burna Boy - Big 7 (#53)

09. Issey Cross - Bittersweet Goodbye (#65)

10. ArrDee and Bugzy Malone - One Direction (#58)

11. Travis Scott - FE!N (feat. Playboi Carti) (#13)

Aphex Twin >>> just voted for him, still can't quite believe that this EP charted in the top 100!

Week 32

01. Doja Cat - Paint The Town Red (#20)

02. Travis Scott - TELEKINESIS (feat. SZA and Future) (#31)

03. Bebe Rexha and David Guetta - One In A Million (#79)

04. Jazzy - Feel It (#83)

05. Beyond Chicago, Majestic and Alex Mills - Million Dollar Bill (#99)

I don't care for any of these oops but voted for Doja Cat as the best of a mid bunch - such a step down from 'Attention' nevertheless :(

1st week - Calvin / Sam, Chase & Status / Bou and Aphex Twin

2nd week - Travis Telekinesis; my favourite of all his current offerings that I’ve heard

Week 31

Travis Scott - MELTDOWN (feat. Drake) (#10) - an absolute stunning piece, that production and the switch ups  sicko mode part 2

Travis Scott - FE!N (feat. Playboi Carti) (#13) - production great but the repetitive FEIN parts are rather annoying

Calvin Harris and Sam Smith - Desire (#18) - love the pipes in this, another floorfiller

Travis Scott - HYAENA (#21) - nice feel and general vibe to this one

Drake and Central Cee - On The Radar Freestyle (#26) - fire. probably the best 'freestyle' to ever chart

Chase And Status and Bou - Baddadan (feat. IRAH, Flowdan, Trigga and Takura) (#31) - how amazing that a song like this can chart in 2023! beast of a throwback sound

Post Malone - Enough Is Enough (#52) - more mellow rubbish from him but this does have an ok melody at least

Burna Boy - Big 7 (#53) - this is great! much better than all of his top 40s to date. production reminds me of zedd/elly duhé - happy now

ArrDee and Bugzy Malone - One Direction (#58) - inspired sample but not a good song

Issey Cross - Bittersweet Goodbye (#65) - less inspired sample but a good song

Aphex Twin - Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760 [EP] (#79) - this was a very pleasant aural experience

Voted Travis x2, Calvin, Drake, C&S, Burna, Issey & Aphex.

Week 32

Doja Cat - Paint The Town Red (#20) - such an annoying voice

Travis Scott - TELEKINESIS (feat. SZA and Future) (#31) - pretty boring by his standards

Bebe Rexha and David Guetta - One In A Million (#79) - basic and boring

Jazzy - Feel It (#83) - another FULL fat banger

Beyond Chicago, Majestic and Alex Mills - Million Dollar Bill (#99) - completely pointless cover, does nothing interesting

Just Jazzy from this shoddy batch!

Went for Sam/Calvin, Aphex Twin and Chase & Status and nothing in week 2!

Quick bump, shall be aiming to get the next poll up later tonight so hoping to get a few more votes in today (still need to do it myself x)
  • 2 weeks later...

Dw I haven't forgotten, I'm just lazy  I started working on making a new thread last night but was too sleepy to finish it, it will be up tonight. And yes we're doing a 3 in 1 poll this time :cheeseblock: (but one of those weeks only has 3 songs in it - all 3 combined actually still have fewer songs than just the Eurovision week in fact x)

I got the results of the July monthly round added up last night and #spoilers it is extremely close between 3rd and 5th! Results up alongside the new poll later B-)

I see the bump of this thread has given us an additional late voter that's made the week 32 poll a 3 way tie :cheeseblock: if someone else wants to break that during the day go ahead :teresa:
