The Zutons have seen their last hurrah with 'Valerie' next out. It was the 2nd single from the bands second studio album Tired Of Hanging Around and followed the lead single 'Why Won't You Give Me Your Love?' and both songs peaked at #9 in the chart but 'Valerie' was the more enduring hit. 15 months later Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse recorded a cover version which peaked 7 places higher at #2 and as we know it did extremely well in two survivors. It reaches top 5 here in spite of myself voting it out from the beginning as I just never liked it in original form and don't rate the Zutons generally either but it's clear it had it's fans and so 4th is perhaps an expected finish for it!

Missy although they’re all on more or less the same level for me. Iconic songs that aren’t personal favourites but that I appreciate.

Valerie would have been my pick this round anyway if Missy had gone. Time to get the freak off to leave a brill top 2.

Zutons version is leagues and leagues above Ronson's.

 

Missy Elliot again but wouldn't be sad to see the back of Outkast either, a song I find rather annoying these days.
