Looks like they are hoping to take complete advantage of the physical market and im happy with that as its something we have wanted them to do. They really seemed to have learned a few things from padam padam and have the tension release well mapped out and everything in place.
The extended mix will likely be available from Friday for next week and a remix will come in a couple of weeks and the inevitable slime-green cassette.

Good news though is that it's finally on 7Digital

- the 24bit version is only 1.29 (it's more expensive on Qobuz)

I hope BMG are reading this. I would absolutely LOVE a slime-green cassette!

I think it’s almost a given that we will get one - we got yellow for PP so I’m sure a green one is coming

Happy to see a CD release this week. I think that's a smart move to secure a top 20 placement. Hopefully it'll start climbing spotify over the next few days, it should do based on how much I played the song today.

I'm hoping this may gain more and more support in the build up to album release and get a new peak during the album release week. That would be amaizng.

Chart Rule 5.5: All physical formats should carry a unique catalogue number, and a unique barcode should relate to the catalogue number. This is applicable even when identical recordings are issued in different packaging, including colour variations of CD's and vinyl

Yes I know this, but these 2 CDs will not be classed as 2 different formats is what I mean

Brilliant to see it still rising on iTunes. Looks the midweek chart info has encouraged some more downloads.
Hard to predict the physical gain to the uk chart, would 5k be a fair call as many of these will ship to outside the UK and won't count.
The fact that it's still number one and increasing is very encouraging - after all this is how Padam Padam initially took off since the pure fanbase downloads have already been done.
Tomorrow's Spotify update will be a sign of the trajectory it's going to take: if it goes back up, then we are probably in for another, even if minor, streaming hit. If it falls out, then it's probably it for streaming until the album release at least.

But you said this: “This is only 1 physical its the same CD, just different artwork. So still got 2 more to go”

That’s not the case. They’ve used up 2 of the 3 physicals they can give to Tension with these two CDs. Different artwork makes them different items, so not the same CD. Even though it has the same music on it.

Anyway, it’s a great surprise to see them releasing physicals for week 1! I also appreciate the cheaper prices this time, although the postage predictably remains on the expensive side (in fact more expensive than the actual items). I hope that doesn’t put off too many potential buyers.

1x Tension CD at £1.99 + £3 postage = £4.99

2x Tension CD Bundle at £3.98 + £4 postage = £7.98 (works out at £3.99 each)

Either way it’s better value than the Padam Padam CD, which was £3.99 + £3 postage = £6.99.

Padam CD sold 2,598 copies in its week of release. Hopefully with Tension being cheaper & having two CDs it can at least sell double Padam.

Tension being #14 in the first look, then #19 on Monday, matches the 5 place fall Padam Padam experienced from Sunday to Monday (#21 to #26). It was held up quite well from Tuesday to Thursday (#27, #27, #28) and then it ended up at #26 on Friday.

If Tension was to follow the same trajectory it would experience #20/#21 midweek positions, although as perrobueno says, that relies on how it performs over the next few days, if it matches Padam by gaining on Spotify.

In the most recent Friday chart, the #20 single sold 13,194 and the #21 sold 13,124. Perhaps that’s how many sales we could expect for Tension before taking into account the CDs. Last week’s #10 sold 20,324, so it was 7,130 ahead of #20. So Tension CDs might need to sell that at least, or 8k+ to be comfortable, if it was to get into the Top 10. Who knows but my gut feeling is that that’s too much to expect. I’m feeling confident that the CDs will help Tension land somewhere in the Top 20 at least.

Friday will be exciting given that the midweeks won’t give any indication of physical sales!

Oop that was quite the essay.

A* essay my hun 😘

Agree with everything you said, this is all very logical.

Last time Padam got held up by the CD selling out, I know they managed to get it back in stock but they lost a lot of buyers who maybe didnt even know it was restocked. If they print the same number as last time (but times 2 due to the extra variant) then as you said we are potentially looking at sales of 2500 ish in the UK x 2 = 5000 (most people will just do the double CD rather than indivduals as it works out cheaper hun per CD) so we could have 5k UK physical sales... unless they have had more printed. Then it could increase slightly in the uk.

Will be very interesting to see how this plays out my huns

Maybe Tension will be number 12? Shes hit number 12 a few times.

Just Carol Honey ❤️

Bbc radio 2 just played Tension then Zoe Ball and team chatted a bit and the song still played behind so I guess that is the extended mix, sounded mainly instruemtnal

I wonder if there's a deeper meaning to Kylie having three videos with scenes of her in a motel room...

Looks like ike Cavin and Sam take over at top of itunes. Time for BMG to reduce to 59p on Wednesday
