The Beatles are releasing their "final" single next week 'Now and Then'... where do we think it'll chart?

I suppose the only recent-ish comparisons we have are 'Angry' by The Rolling Stones which made #34 and ABBA's 'Don't Shut Me Down' and 'I Still Have Faith in You' which made #9 and #14. However those were both "proper" new recordings, whereas 'Now and Then' is made up of a mix of old Lennon/Harrison recordings with some new additions from McCartney and Starr.

Although it's releasing on Thursday, 'Now and Then' also has a few different vinyl & cassette versions that come out the next day... but they're not cheap! https://ukstore.thebeatles.com/collections/...then-collection

I'd say top 40. I don't think there would be that much interest in it, unless it is really, really good, and the last time supposed "last" Beatles singles came about, they didn't stick around for too long (although admittedly they did both go top 10, albeit in a different market environment).

I'm guessing top 20 due to name power before tanking out the chart entirely the following week

(I thought they'd time it for Xmas chart race for extra publicity too but alas)

It's part of a deluxe re-release of their 'Red' and 'Blue' albums out on November 10th, which I presume is not the sort of thing the record label would want to release a week before Christmas.
Voted for top 20, so higher than ‘Angry’ but not quite scaling the heights of ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’. We’ll see though!

Could go anywhere really, but I guess it will get a lot of downloads (albeit many wasted on the Thursday release) and curiosity streams to start with. Top 20 does seem like a fair bit but top 10 or top 30 wouldn't surprise me.

It does make me appreciate what a colossal achievement it was for ABBA to chart two brand new songs in the top 15 simultaneously, including one in the top 10.

And to at least stay top 40 for a few weeks!

I think Top 15 minimum - the formats are expensive but they have a massive physical buying/collector fanbase so they will be all over this and are accustomed to the high price points.

What is the strategy behind a Thursday release at 2pm?

Wasted sales for the following week.

On iTunes you can download the 2 tracks on the single for £1.99.

Some variants are already sold out on HMV.

I can’t imagine the purchaers of Beatles new material would worry about the high mark price!
I wonder how much support it'll get on streaming services? The Beatles do really well in trickle streams. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets support such as #1 on NMF or even a placing on Today's Top Hits/HHUK? If it's good, I think it might surprise and get to #1. Although I'm thinking Top 10 at best.
They'll definitely be interest either way, and it will get a lot more news coverage than the average new release which will help, but I think how well received it is will come into it. The fact the new ABBA songs were received very well did allow them to hold up better. Top 20 does sound about right as a benchmark.

I reckon they could have an Adele moment and go to @1

Its not comparable to a Rollings comeback

Plus their crazy fans will buy all the physicals they can

The sales threshold for Top 10 has been quite low recently, so I've stuck my neck out and gone for that. ABBA made it despite 3 Drake songs entering in the same week.

Exactly, I'd have thought this must surely be able to muster at least 16k in hype and curiosity interest?

Voted top 20, I can kinda see it just missing out on a top 10 placement due to wasting a good amount of hype downloads on a Thurs release.
