Unless your name is WHAM!, The Pogues, Kirsty MacColl, Leona Lewis, Wizzard, SLADE, Shakin' Stevens etc...

It's a fair point though. Looking at last years Christmas top 40 and it's heavily skewed towards American artists.

Come on UK, stream more UK Christmas songs this year.

The song itself isn’t exactly a classic just because the movie is, it didn’t chart anywhere until 2022. I definitely wouldn’t expect it to be above Thriller without a lot of help from playlists.

'Thriller' is split between several versions, it's well ahead combined.

Obviously it's heavily helped by playlists, as are all of the charting Halloween songs, but I am surprised that you've not heard of it!

The streaming playlists are heavily skewed to US artists, I agree (probably because Apple & Amazon - 2 of the 3 biggest platforms - are American companies) but those artists who I named are staples each and every year and they always do well.
ive played mariah once today for the jokes of it, but thats it tbh, shes not gonna come out for a good few weeks, i normally start just after my town does their annual christmas light switch on, which is on the weekend of 25/26th nov this year

it is officially the season of YET now that Mariah has finished defrosting, she'll probably end up in the top 50 on Spotify

with sales in the toilet around the top end she'll probably end up going back to #1 in early December anyhow, unless that new Dua Lipa song becomes properly massive

The way I'm massively put off listening to the song out of choice now when it was a big staple for me growing up  (it's not even in a "I hate this song now" way either - as it's a great song!) I just generally don't care if I ever hear it again and I just know it's going to be forced upon me against my own will, so why include it in my own playlist?

Thing with All I Want For Christmas is Mariah has ruined it herself. When it was a bit of fun a few years ago people calling her the queen of Christmas and the song organically being big and played a lot at Christmas it felt ok. Mariah's constant promo of it though and her own self proclaimed Queen of Christmas stuff has taken the fun out of it and just made it a tacky thing to make money.

I feel if she doesn't back off she will kill the song off like Noddy Holder did with Slade and popping up every Christmas like an unwanted sprout.

I was reading now an article about the most mis-interpreted songs

and they had Hallelujah as a Christmas song, when in fact it's about being horny

and then Born in the US as a patriotic song, when it's the opposite

and then Cranberries-Zombie now adopted as a Halloween song when it's about conflicts in Ireland :o

‘I Will Always Love You’ getting played at weddings despite being about a divorce.

Mariah @89 On Amazon already

Since september ive been getting ads for the Christmas Hits playlist

They are very persistent to say the least

I'm I'm this camp's sorta, I enjoy the song when anyone else covers it just think hers has been overplayed to death

Christmas

Apple Music

171. Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You

198. Wham! - Last Christmas

Amazon

35. Wham! - Last Christmas

46. Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You (+47)

197. Ariana Grande - Santa Tell Me

254. Band Aid 30 - Do They Know It's Christmas? (1984 Version)

375. Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree

381. Sia - Snowman

534. Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree

555. Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday (2006 Remaster)

558. Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime (Edited Version / Remastered 2011)

The songs on Amazon should climb quite a lot today/tomorrow as all the Halloween songs fall (Quite a lot of halloween songs still in the Amazon chart, including the top 10).

You find that as each year passes lol find some unique Christmas songs for your playlist and listen to the classics when you can’t avoid them at parties and shopping etc

I don't stream/listen to any of them by choice other than to put on at a background level on the speaker on actual Christmas Day. Working retail you hear your fill of them all enough to not warrant anything more regardless.

I downloaded several versions of Wham! last year but that was for the sake of trying to win a bet at good oods lmao.

I’m so glad Front of House staff control the music at the restaurant I work at because it means I won’t have to hear the shit ones if I don’t want to lmao. Ofc Mariah and wham will be played, but luckily since I control it it won’t be ott like in other places
