I managed to fight Celine Dion onto here! That was my proud inclusion

:cheeseblock: …and that’s the way it is!

I think as an early-ish example of a Max Martin production, it’s nice to represent that alongside the more obvious Britney/Backstreet Boys songs. Celine deserved to have a much bigger success with it in the UK! #12 was rude ! I suppose it was one of those songs that was well received but it translated to album sales instead of singles.

Agreed. Also, my argument was that it's a lot better known now than it was then, due to its inclusion in various musicals and films, like & Juliet. It's celebrated as one of Max Martin's notable and unexpected productions of the time and obviously was the lead single for a No.1 greatest hits album, plus has over 120m Spotify streams, so I felt it should stay despite its average chart peak here.

I call upon Jay to make us a pop compilation someday! :)

That might need to be done on a decade by decade basis. I dont think we could do all of pop music justice in 85 tracks

That Celine Dion track is the only one I don't recognise from the tracklist.

I think you've done a great job with it though Rich, looks well themed per disc and (Celine aside :kink: ) they all are clear representative tracks of the year for me.

With one song restriction for each act possibly only "Maria" and "Kiss Me" are good enough for my 1999 compilation.

For Britney, Steps, Geri, B*Witched and Shania I will select other tracks.

Was there anything left out that you think should gave been included?

Maybe Catatonia - Dead From The Waist Down

This and Manics-You Stole The Sun From My Heart are the only things missing for me. Otherwise, great job!

You Stole the Sun was on the long list and stayed in contention for inclusion for a long time.

Rave music refers to the late 1980s/early 1990s genres of house, new beat, breakbeat, acid house, techno and hardcore techno, which were the first genres of music to be played at rave parties.

The genre "rave", also known as hardcore by early ravers, first appeared amongst the UK "acid" movement during the late 1980s at warehouse parties and other underground venues, as well as on UK pirate radio stations. Another genre called "rave" during the early 1990s, was the Belgian hardcore techno music that emerged from new beat, when techno became the main style in the Belgian dance scene

The "rave" genre would develop into oldschool hardcore, which lead onto newer forms of rave music such as drum and bass, 2-step and happy hardcore as well as other hardcore techno genres, such as gabber and hardstyle

Hoping that as well as the 1991-2 tracks, Apollo 440 - Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Dub makes an appearance on the rave album.

And maybe Love Regenerator, Calvin Harris - Hypnagogic (I Can't Wait) if we need a track from the 2010s.

I would say Stakker Humanoid - Humanoid was the first 'rave sounding' track in the charts. Not many from then until Quadrophonia and maybe Nomad in early 1991.
