Posted January 19, 20241 yr Guess this gives me a good excuse to start a thread on Chappell Roan now she has made her debut on the radio 1 playlist this morning. This was her latest track I've heard from BJSC which is another bop but she's putting them out for several years now. She's someone I've been following since early 2018 as well but none of those tracks were as poppy as her stuff in past 4 years have been. kWLai0XoZmg?si=iZxQA0n-Yktw0fn5 Some others GR3Liudev18?si=oxDQkBiKKGq3Kzg0 nXZuv1T8bfg?si=3ITTZ-Xr2X_sZFU3 AfSjnsYiY_A?si=f7u53rBtdZh5qGZl xaPNR-_Cfn0?si=3WFCZK2lQ4B2lzvw This one was one of my BJSC entries last year as well and was my top song on Spotify! January 19, 20241 yr Casual is by far her best song but I understand why Radio 1 may not want to play that :kink: Edited January 19, 20241 yr by John-James
January 19, 20241 yr I'm surprised there's any songs of hers left which haven't yet been sent to BJSC
April 10, 20241 yr Author So this is looking to become Chappell Roan's first hit then. Already in the Top 100 in Mondays mids, climbing a lot on Spotify this week. Wonder where it'll eventually peak for her! 1RKqOmSkGgM?si=xeflRcwFx7zUP7de
April 10, 20241 yr maybe its the side of tiktok im on but i keep seeing casual on my fyp, both a mix of vidoes from her peforming it as an opewner for olivia rordigo and also other videos with the song!
April 12, 20241 yr Omg good luck babe is soooo good! I was indifferent on first listen and never really went back but it came on today and it’s clicked! Gorgeous track! So cool to see that it looks like it’ll be a hit!
April 14, 20241 yr Good Luck, Babe!  Her performance of it at Coachella should skyrocket the song across charts everywhere if there's any justice - so good! @1779421128496501189 A talent
April 15, 20241 yr i was surprised to see ‘good luck, babe’ wasn’t picked up by R1 on friday. i’ve never heard a song more suited for R1 in my life lol
April 15, 20241 yr This is incredible, her album was comfortably my fave of last year and she’s the most interesting and dynamic new artist in absolutely ages! Honestly I don’t think any artist has had such a striking, unique and assured sense of who they are in their debut era since Lady Gaga. You get the sense nobody else could do what she’s doing, she has such an eclectic vibe that would be a mess if it was anyone else but it all works so seamlessly and I cannot wait to hear more from her. maybe its the side of tiktok im on but i keep seeing casual on my fyp, both a mix of vidoes from her peforming it as an opewner for olivia rordigo and also other videos with the song! Casual is probably the big fan fave, I see so much too still
April 15, 20241 yr Loving 'Good Luck, Babe' and 'Red Wine Supernova' currently! I need to get around to the album at some point. Aside from GLB, she has 3 others in the US Spotify top 200 currently - hopefully at least one more will enter over here soon too!
April 16, 20241 yr Her rise reminds a bit of Billie Eilish. View this post on Instagram Gaga is also wise to work with her :P Edited April 16, 20241 yr by Sour Candy
April 16, 20241 yr I really like the latest one, it's really catchy and I've found myself returning to it loads these past few days
April 16, 20241 yr I saw someone point out that the synths in 'Good Luck, Babe!' sound a bit like 'Last Christmas' and now I can't unhear it.
April 16, 20241 yr Idk how it's taken me so long to post in here but I've loved Chappell for a while now, Good Luck Babe is just everything  It was so good to see the positive reception she got at Coachella as well, now GLB has charted for her too! She's such a star, I'm absolutely obsessed  Edited April 16, 20241 yr by Linds.
April 16, 20241 yr I like Red Wine Supernova but can’t get into the rest of her music, that sounds the most like a hit to me so I don’t really get why Good Luck Babe is the one taking off!
April 16, 20241 yr I like Red Wine Supernova but can’t get into the rest of her music, that sounds the most like a hit to me so I don’t really get why Good Luck Babe is the one taking off! I mean, I do think Good Luck Babe is an amazing song (and possibly her best) BUT I think the answer to this is timing. Her star has been growing and growing, so I think the new one blowing up as quickly as it is definitely has something to do with her star finally reaching the stage where she's ready to smash, where songs like Red Wine Supernova were responsible for building that hype in the first place.
April 16, 20241 yr Opening for Olivia Rodrigo has helped too! And the fact her Coachella performance of the song has connected with many on the Internet and being shared a lot. This graph helps to explain her growth more clearly: @1780214123617280121
April 16, 20241 yr Oh for sure, she's also got a very identifiable fan base and social media (especially tiktok) has been a great tool for her. She knows the type of performer she wants to be, there's a confidence to it as well which is so endearing. I think we're moving into an era where there's no shame around stanning campy pop music, it's just fun so how can you not love it? She has a lot of songs that have the potential to be hits, Hot To Go for example is gaining more fans after people seeing her perform it live with the YMCA style dance, people are talking about Casual a lot because there's a kinda funny debate going round about how logistically you can be "knee deep in the passenger seat" and then there's Femininomenon, Red Wine Supernova, Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl, genuinely idk how it's only taking until now for things to really happen for her In terms of why Good Luck Babe is taking off so much, from my perspective it's the lyrics, they're extremely relatable for a lot of queer women who have either been the subject of the song or have been with someone who is but aside from that it's just some good pop music. The kinda of 80s esque/nostalgic pop sound has been on the rise for a while now but somehow Chappell has made this completely her own but you can still hear influences through it - I've seen mention of Kate Bush, Cindi Lauper, Marina and the Diamonds etc I think it's a great first track to listen to of hers if you don't know her because there's easy associations like that Edited April 16, 20241 yr by Linds.
April 17, 20241 yr OK so I've just heard this and yeah it's a bit of a tune isn't it? Consider me on the bandwagon.
