January 21, 20242 yr To be fair the Hottest Record is for the entire station, not just this one show isn't it? I think it makes sense that songs which are charting highly in their first week are likely to be chosen as a Hottest Record. Don't think it really makes much difference if the song is just played at the start of the show rather than its position in the chart. I guess Noah is unlikely to pull off the 1 & 2 this week then but he still might some time in the next few weeks if 'Homesick' gets pushed enough. 'redrum' starting from a higher position on First Look than last week so top 10 this week could still be possible.
January 21, 20242 yr The HR is specifically linked to the Future Sounds show and has been around since before Zane Lowe covered this (I think). The Friday HR is generally on the weekend dance show and a big DJs release while the weekend ones are just pop songs or songs just released on New Music Friday. The tune of the weekend should really just cover the HR on Saturday and Sunday imo! I’m not sure exactly who owns the concept tbh maybe Lewis could answer that. Good that they are apparently bothering to change the credit this time but poor brave Hozier not being afforded the same luxury x (the other duets are maybe more understandable to have been left off as they weren't so obviously primarily responsible for the songs charting).

The US chart works differently with crediting, they do automatically use the credit of the version that contributes the majority of chart points (so Gracie Abrams was credited on 'Everywhere, Everything' for example, and indeed Hozier on 'Northern Attitude'). Doesn't look like 'Homesick' is likely to chart there regardless though, at least not yet. IIRC Taylor was credited on 'The Joker And The Queen' on First Look?
