I don't have exact numbers and cba to check but I imagine both Stick Season and Dance Monkey would be close to #1 without being blocked by Christmas songs for a month
Ha, remember when we thought Stick Season was only doing so well because it had “Christmas” in the lyrics and Lovin On Me was easily going to be back at #1 come January!

Not as close as you'd think.

 

Stick Season only overtook Lovin' On Me on 10th December, so it missed 16 days thanks to Christmas songs and would be on 91 now.

 

Christmas songs weren't quite as dominant in 2019 so Dance Monkey still spent much of the first half of December at #1, and towards the middle of the month it was overtaken by Own It anyway. It only missed out on 7 days (1st, 7th, 8th, 21st, 22nd, 24th and 25th) and would be on 88.

It's unlikely this one will peak any time soon, even if it does take off (which, as we've seen time and time again recently, isn't a guarantee regardless of the success of the previous single!). I suppose there wasn't an expectation for Beautiful Things to take off quite as much as it did, either, so they had these plans in motion from the start. No point making fans wait 2 more months for a song they've been craving!

I don't think it will hurt Benson tbh. I think this is the same amount of time Ariana Grande left between her singles and it hasn't hurt her (I know it's not exactly the same situation because Beautiful Things has been bigger than yes, and? and more of a slow burner, and Ariana's 2nd single has come with the album release, but still).
