June 16, 20241 yr The Rui da Silva/Cassandra track is great. I remember the Fragma/Maria Rubia track from when I was younger, so its quite nostalgic for me.
June 17, 20241 yr 'It's The Way You Make Me Feel' does seem to be one of Steps' better regarded tracks and my parents really liked it too (they bought a CD single in fact), so I grew up around it, but it doesn't really do anything for me either. I love plenty of pop music but I seem to have a bit of a disconnect with them, 'Scared of the Dark' aside. 'Love Don't Cost A Thing' is one of J-Lo's better songs for me, I enjoy the attitude of it, although don't quite love it as much as I did when I was younger. I adore 'Needin' U' in both its original and reworked forms  I probably do prefer the original as well, as the lack of vocals gives more of a spotlight to the euphoric loopy house production with its carnival feel, but Juliet's vocals and the gospel-style backing in places are still a good fit for the genre. 'Toca's Miracle' is one of my favourite dance tracks of 2000 but sadly I agree that 'Everytime You Need Me' doesn't really recreate the magic, a bit too sugary for me. Great to have Mis-Teeq in the charts now! Garage was an interesting direction for a girl-group to take, definitely paid off for them. Don't know too much about Feeder but 'Buck Rogers' really stands out in this batch, can see why it's a Kerrang classic. On the subject of rock music - 'Road Trippin' is my favourite of the three RHCP singles that have appeared in the thread so far, would also put it pretty high up in this selection. Rui Da Silva is my top pick of this batch too though... what a start to brand new chart toppers in 2001  love the progressive house production and soulful vocals, the build-up of those alongside the sensual lyrics is pure ecstasy.
June 17, 20241 yr Week 47: LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight The Moonlight Daft Punk - One More Time Enya - Only Time Darude - Feel The Beat Wu-Tang Clan - Gravel Pit Alan Braxe And Fred Falke - Intro Savage Garden - Hold Me Lucy Pearl - Don't Mess With My Man 666 - Devil Artful Dodger Featuring Lifford - Please Don't Turn Me On Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around The Block Richard Blackwood - Someone There For Me – sounding alright I guess but still bottom here. Week 48 Craig David - Walking Away Public Domain - Operation Blade (Bass In The Place) Destiny's Child - Independent Women - Part 1 Bomfunk MC's - Uprocking Beats – not feeling this one from them. Seems high in rank but only cause it's largely a bad bunch. Ronan Keating - The Way You Make Me Feel – I can't remember what I thought of this then, may have I liked it but my word it sounds dull listening now. The right song landed in the top 5. MJ Cole Featuring Elisabeth Troy - Hold On To Me True Steppers Featuring Brian Harvey - True Step Tonight Paul Van Dyk - We Are Alive – wishwashy this is. Point Break - What About Us *NSync - This I Promise You True Party - Whazzup – what is this lol.
June 17, 20241 yr Weeks 49 and 50: Eminem - Stan - Gonna be hard to beat this one really. S Club 7 - Never Had A Dream Come True – a warm and lovely ballad. Their best ballad for sure. Madonna - Don't Tell Me – literally equal second. Very clever that chopped up effect and fab song overall. Britney Spears - Stronger Warp Brothers Vs Aquagen - Phat Bass Bob The Builder - Can We Fix It? - Iconic of course. Apollo Four Forty - Charlie's Angels 2000 Melanie C - If That Were Me – it's decent and fine but ater three strong singles before it a massive drop down. Mystikal - Shake Ya Ass Wyclef Jean Featuring Mary J. Blige - 911 Bon Jovi - Thank You For Loving Me Lost Witness - 7 Colours Junior Jack - My Feeling Jay-Z - I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me) Sisqo - Incomplete Daniel O'Donnell - Morning Has Broken – shock not last but that's not saying a lot. Cat Stevens one has an attachment for me on a personal note, it is a nice song but yeah I'll pass on this version not that he doesn't sing it nicely I suppose. Better than 'Light A Candle' of course lol. Da Muttz - Wassuup – another one of this, sigh. Had no idea about either of these back then and that's a relief.
June 17, 20241 yr Touch Me is a 9 for me, a great dance track, Road Trippin' a decent 7, their 4th to date with only one 8/10 Under The Bridge natch, to beat them. Dusted I have no memory of!! :o Buck Rogers I quite liked, though, another 7 for Feeder, with Saint Etienne just behind a tad at 6/10. Santos? Pass! Komodo? Not a pass, an actual 7/10 from me, though I havent heard it in 23 years! Creed was a big Florida radio playlist, and as usual I remember those much more than shortlived top 40 entries, and an actual 9/10 in my charts peaking at 5, unusually for grungey big ballads. Mis-teeq grabbed a 6 from me, Why? cos it didnt go top 40 for me. Alesha's fab new Hotstepper revamp though is fab, so that should rate much higher (Ransom). Texas Inner Smile one of my top tracks of the 2000's, written by New radicals Gregg Alexander, and just brilliant, a 10/10 all-time fave, what a tune. Went mad on it for weeks and have never got bored with it. Probably my fave ever Texas track, and I have loads of 10's for them! Sharleen is amazing in concert, what a star. Fragma was a 4/10, not quite up their with previous, Everlast a 5, J-Lo an easy 9 for me, one of her best tracks and still a radio staple, probably the most well-known of this batch. Where I'm Headed is a 7, always liked her stuff, but this Lene marlin track isn;t one I could hum. Steps' track 1 was a 7/10 and one I do remember, but the cover side just wasn't up to the 1972 Mardi Gras cover for me. That was fab. The Marvin Gaye original too. Demons, I agree, sounds good on paper. On CD though it's a borderline 4 or 3.
June 17, 20241 yr A few thoughts on the last two groups in 2000: Stan is a sensational record, always sounded so fresh on the radio, considering what it's about I was always amazed that commercial radio played it. Stronger was a great Britney single, far better than Lucky for me, with that memorable siren intro. Don't Tell Me I liked more than Music, was interesting to see her go country for a single. I never particularly liked 911, Mary J sounds good on it but I always thought Wyclef sounded a bit strained somehow. I can't take If That Were Me very seriously due to that lyric that often shows up in the all-time worst lyric countdowns: "I couldn't live without my phone, but you don't even have a home". Musically it was a big step down from Mel's prior three singles too of course. I think maybe the nostalgia element of Can We Fix It passed me by a bit, I somehow get more nostalgia from Tweenies, and didn't watch either! Never Had A Dream Come True is a classy, classic winter pop ballad, and a surprise US top 10 for S Club 7 too! Lovely song. God that Daniel O'Donnell cover is pointless, obviously the original is a classic. You could get away with anything at Christmas back then I guess. Can't stand either version of Wassuup, can't believe this version managed five weeks in the top 20! Of the second group, I agree that Supreme was a strong single, sounded a bit like a lost Bond theme to me. Warning was another good one from Green Day, another I remember people at school listening to a lot. Please Stay was an interesting choice of single, I'd have probably gone for Your Disco Needs You, but like this one too. Wasn't fond of Walk Of Life particularly, I think it was a change in direction that didn't work very well, sad that it was the end of her pop career after such a flop for it though. I actually really like Oxide and Neutrino's taken on the Prodigy song. It works as a garage anthem, and I bought it at the time! They also came in and performed it at my school, and I asked them 'what song do they prefer of their two singles'. They replied 'Bound 4 Da Reload, because it was a No.1 and our first single' - fair enough! What Makes A Man really isn't a bad track - I don't think it was the song that deserved to end their No.1 run, quite a grand sweeping ballad with a nice melody. It was pretty funny to see Bob beat it to Xmas No.1 though. I'll disagree with the score for poor Craig, because of course he can't sing and it has some weird vocal processing effects, but I really think the song is quite heartwarming, with a big festive chorus and a nice middle eight. It's a mainstay on my Christmas playlist! The worst for me are Keith 'N' Shane (awful, but I like to think they picked this song because they can't sing - as, famously, Milli Vanilli didn't), and - sorry - Wombles and Roy. Of course, Roy Wood is a genius, and so is Mike Batt, but good grief, who concocted this mess? The two songs couldn't fit together less, and trying to clunkily sing them together made both songs (great Christmas classics individually) sound absolutely awful. Too wordy, and pointless because people will just listen to the originals - Wizzard particularly which along with Slade was still one of the big two on the radio in 2000. June 17, 20241 yr You just like dance music too much. I can't find any other reasons for explaining the majority of your 8-9-10 scores. Edited June 17, 20241 yr by Last Dreamer

They replied 'Bound 4 Da Reload, because it was a No.1 and our first single' - fair enough! I prefer 'No Good 4 Me' as its more bassline focused, like a slightly less poppy precursor to late 2007-2008's chart bassline garage revival such as T2 - Heartbroken. June 18, 20241 yr Author I know it’s nothing groundbreaking and it follows the rapped verse / sung chorus model, but I love “Things I’ve Seen”. I think it has great atmosphere and charm to it. Great to have Chester and band in the mix now too. 8 Spooks Things I've Seen Debut hit for this US hip hop band: the rapping is strong but it's the brilliant sung parts from Ming Xia that really make it 8 Linkin Park One Step Closer Debut for my favourite nu metal band and a great palette whetter for what they have to offer: an impassioned harrowing track 7 Joshua Ryan Pistol Whip Only hit for this US DJ journalist: a highly enjoyable dance instrumental with several sections that's well worth the 10 minutes 7 Boom! Falling Only hit for them but it anticipates the kind of pop garage Liberty X will be doing and it's a really lovely heartwarming track 6 Madison Avenue Everything You Need Last of their 3 hits and rather a flop but I much prefer this to "Who The Hell Are You?": an interesting funky retro style song 6 Terrorvision D'Ya Wanna Go Faster Last of 13 Top 40s for this UK rock band: it's an enjoyable, vigorous and slightly raucous number with endearing spoken parts 5 ATB Featuring York The Fields Of Love Last hit for 20 years for ATB: it has his usual tuneful twangy melody and it's nothing amazing but a pretty and laid back track 5 Limp Bizkit Rollin' 889th #1: as ever Fred Durst's voice is an acquired taste and this isn't sophisticated but a very infectious rap metal number 4 Hatiras Featuring Slarta John Spaced Invader Only hit for this Canadian DJ: sounds almost like computer game music with the beepy main feature; I can't fully get into it 4 All Saints All Hooked Up Last hit until their reunion: I quite enjoyed this in the context of the album and the production is good, but the chorus is weak 3 Pink You Make Me Sick Last of 3 hits from her debut and this is another quite vanilla RnB track without enough individuality to it, but she'll be back 2 EBTG Vs Soul Vision Tracey In My Room Only hit for this DJ collaboration mashing Sandy Rivera's own hit with EBTG's "Wrong": I don't enjoy this or really see the point M7YLWm_rbBQ 2001 Week 5: #568 03/02/2001 Usher Pop Ya Collar 2 {2}-6-9-16-22-34-49-69-65->9 #569 03/02/2001 Dr Dre Featuring Snoop Dogg The Next Episode 3 {3}-7-11-14-18-27-33-45-61-75-58R(149)-73->12 #570 03/02/2001 Safri Duo Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song) 6 {6}-11-14-19-27-33-43-66-73->9 #571 03/02/2001 Martine McCutcheon On The Radio 7 {7}-14-21-32-44-47-56-68->8 #572 03/02/2001 Dario G Dream To Me 9 {9}-16-26-35-49-60->6 #573 03/02/2001 Anastacia Not That Kind 11 {11}-18-20-27-36-40-54-62R(2)->8 #574 03/02/2001 Genius Cru Boom Selection 12 {12}-23-33-45-58->5 #575 03/02/2001 Baha Men With Imani Coppola You All Dat 14 {14}-24-34-49-64->5 #576 03/02/2001 BON Boys 15 {15}-26-36-50-62->5 #577 03/02/2001 Voodoo And Serano Blood Is Pumpin' 19 {19}-32-41-63->4 #578 03/02/2001 Cleptomaniacs Featuring Bryan Chambers All I Do 23 {23}-41-55->3 #579 03/02/2001 Mos Def And Pharoahe Monch Featuring Nate Dogg Oh No 24 {24}-36-40-55->4
June 18, 20241 yr Rollin' my favourite of the lot. I don't know many of those other songs. Safri and the late Dario G surely will be top of the next batch.
June 18, 20241 yr Awwww I like Demons by Fatboy and Macy - I can see why others may not but it actually made #1 for me. I am a sucker for slow dance/trip hop productions though. I bought these that week: Rui Da Silva - great choice of 10 Dusted - didn’t know this before I bought it but there was a hype sticker that made it clear it was Rollo from Faithless Santos Mauro Picotto David Morales Fatboy Slim …so I was very much in dance mode back then
June 19, 20241 yr Spooks' is a really good single, 9/10 for Things I've Seen, never hear it played these days though. One Step Closer passed me by, sadly. Pistol Whip I have zero memory of and didnt chart it. Boom! I liked it, 8/10. Madison Avenue's 2 minutes of fame was up, I always rated Terrorvision, great fun. so an unsurprising 7/10 from me. Limp Bizkit were starting to get regular slagging off's in the media, but I cared not, and Rollin' is a 7/10. All Saints were on a roll with me, 9/10 for All Hooked Up, a 6th top 10 out of 8. Pink not yet using the annoying exclamation mark, and You Make Me Sick was OK, 6/10. The Wrong mash-up for EBTG was 5/10, mainly for the classic original, a 10/10 chart-topper for me. The remix, one week in, then gone forever.
June 19, 20241 yr Author RIP Paul Spencer of Dario G, and hopefully the glorious “Sunchyme” will appear in my reviews one day. Unfortunately I can’t pretend to be enormously enthusiastic about this Cranberries cover, though it is an uplifting version and they do a good job of making it sound fresh. Meanwhile Dr Dre joins Red Hot Chili Peppers by managing to achieve a rare hatrick of 9 scores here. I think this is my favourite of the 3 all things considered: a reminder of how fabulous hip hop can be. 9 Dr Dre Featuring Snoop Dogg The Next Episode There are many features of this that make it an all time great, including the Middle 8 and the atmosphere created by the intro 8 Safri Duo Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song) Only Top 40 for this Danish duo and a big continental hit: a unique hit combining a strong electronic theme with tribal drums 8 Genius Cru Boom Selection 1st of a couple of hits for this UK garage group: the lyrics say it's a genius production and I'm inclined to agree; excellent track 7 BON Boys Only hit for "Band Ohne Namen" with an incredibly catchy well produced pop hip hop track that just about avoids being naff 7 Voodoo And Serano Blood Is Pumpin' 1st of a couple of hits for this hardcore trance Public Domain type act: nothing new but another rousing banger in that style 6 Mos Def And Pharoahe Monch Featuring Nate Dogg Oh No Only hit for this US rapper with better known colleagues: not musically daring but an enjoyable and lyrically interesting track 5 Dario G Dream To Me Their 3rd and final Top 10 for them with a reworking of "Dreams" by The Cranberries: a lovely version but not hugely original 4 Anastacia Not That Kind Quite a jazzy follow up to "I'm Outta Love": a decent track sung well though some of her vowels like in "muh-uh-ine" are odd 3 Usher Pop Ya Collar His 1st hit in 3 years: I quite like the lyrical theme of not worrying what anyone thinks but it's a very bog standard RnB track 3 Baha Men With Imani Coppola You All Dat Hard to follow up such a one off hit: a curious and naff re-working of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" though I quite like the rapping 2 Cleptomaniacs Featuring Bryan Chambers All I Do Only hit for them with a house cover of the Stevie track: I don't even love the original but it had passion and this feels soulless 2 Martine McCutcheon On The Radio Her 5th and last Top 10 hit with a zero originalitu cover of the Donna Summer song: it sounds fine but I can't see any artistry QZXc39hT8t4 2001 Weeks 6 and 7: #580 10/02/2001 Atomic Kitten Whole Again 1 {1}-1-1-1-2-3-4-4-7-7-8-14-16-17-19-21-26-31-30-38-46-63-73R(2)->23 #581 10/02/2001 U2 Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of 2 {2}-10-25-40-37-39-43-67->8 #582 10/02/2001 Mya Case Of The Ex 3 {3}-6-15-20-29-40-53-69-67-64-63->11 #583 10/02/2001 Planet Funk Chase The Sun 5 {5}-12-23-34-44-58-63R(2)-68-55->9 #584 10/02/2001 Ash Shining Light 8 {8}-25-39-60->4 #585 10/02/2001 Alice Deejay Celebrate Our Love 17 {17}-29-40-56->4 #586 10/02/2001 Amira My Desire (Remix 2) 20 {20}-32-51-75->4 #587 10/02/2001 JJ72 Snow 21 {21}-43-62->3 #588 10/02/2001 Mansun Fool 28 {28}-56->2 #589 10/02/2001 Grandaddy The Crystal Lake 38 {38}-57->2 #590 17/02/2001 Wheatus Teenage Dirtbag 2 {2}-2-4-6-5-7-7-8-9-11-15-18-18-18-19-25-22-27-37-71-43R(507)-35-56-50-41R(53)-36-44-48R(45)-46-72-46R(23)-59-63-70-56R(34)-54-38R(494)-38-34-52-67->41 #591 17/02/2001 Papa Roach Last Resort 3 {3}-9-14-23-31-36-43-64-71-69->10 #592 17/02/2001 Fun Lovin' Criminals Loco 5 {5}-20-38-48-61-74->6 #593 17/02/2001 Joe Featuring Mystikal Stutter 7 {7}-13-19-25-37-38-44-65->8 #594 17/02/2001 Starsailor Fever 18 {18}-41-57->3 #595 17/02/2001 Warp Brothers We Will Survive 19 {19}-36-54-75->4 #596 17/02/2001 Dumdums Army Of Two 27 {27}-57->2 #597 17/02/2001 The Thrillseekers Featuring Sheryl Deane Synaesthesia (Fly Away) 28 {28}-53->2 #598 17/02/2001 Shaggy Featuring Rikrok It Wasn't Me {Import} 31 {31}-37-31->3
June 19, 20241 yr Oooooo you’d better be liking the Crystal Lake or I’m afraid we can no longer be friends
June 19, 20241 yr I remember the funky riff from that Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg song from when I was younger. The Safri Duo song is just brilliant and the Dario G song is nostalgic. Oooooo you’d better be liking the Crystal Lake or I’m afraid we can no longer be friends Never heard that song before. 'Loco' and 'Chase the Sun' though  and one of my favourite U2 songs. Edited June 19, 20241 yr by TheSnake
June 19, 20241 yr Weeks 51 and 52 Robbie Williams – Supreme – whilst I personally did enjoy both 'Kids' and 'Rock DJ' I do agree this one was stronger from Robbie. Kylie Minogue - Please Stay Green Day - Warning Billie Piper - Walk Of Life Sugababes - New Year Craig - At This Time Of Year – vocals wise agreed and can also see why it's a bit dreery for some but because it had that cosy christmas vibe to it and was released for that and being a kid at the time and Big Brother season was at large, it saves it completely for me. Oxide And Neutrino Featuring Megaman - No Good 4 Me Westlife - What Makes A Man Lionel Richie - Don't Stop The Music Storm - {DE} Storm Animal Whitney Houston Featuring Faith Evans And Kelly Price - Heartbreak Hotel Wombles With Roy Wood I Wish It Could Be A Wombling - Merry Christmas Everyday – A messy mashup and like you say doesn't even work rhythmically. Keith 'N' Shane - Girl You Know It's True – what a load of wannabe gangsta crap lol.
June 20, 20241 yr 'Touch Me' is easily my favourite so far in 2001, though that may change with something in the next batch  'Road Trippin' has some neat imagery and is a sweet closer to the Californication album, although I don't really go back to it outside of that.
