He did indeed disable comments, what a coward.

To be fair, regardless of how much you disagree with what he's said, he's entitled to do that. The internet is not a good place for this sort of thing to play out (we all know that) and the sort of things people will be saying in the comments aren't actually going to have anything resembling a positive impact.

oh speaking of p!nk i do kinda wanna propose removing her artist forum oop x

  • I'm sorry but if you're going to come I with such a huge sweeping statement about such a heavy topic / genocide and base it just on people not liking Ed Sheeran and Macklemore not being a Saint withou

It stops conversation from happening though, Macklemore didn't. If you're going to post a statement, you should allow people to respond imo.

Standard buzzjack witchhunt hunt on Ed , the venues were to blame and he did everything he could to keep Mackelmore on tour but his hands were tied

Ed's statement is more pointedly a "response" statement in the sense that he's having to set the record straight.

Admittedly Macklemore too but in a different way.

I'm not sure what would be gained from that apart from people engaging in screaming matches and implying that he's responsible for everything. That's pretty much what they're doing already.

To say its a witch hunt is ridiculous, I would feel similarly about anyone.

It's okay to hold people accountable, and go learn/grow and people have every right to be upset about what is a very heavy topic.

Yeah, I don't think this is a witch hunt against Ed! He's chosen his stance on it and it's a stance that very few people on this site are likely to agree with. It's not really comparable to people grumbling about an album drop or something!

And it's the same for anyone - take Roísin Murphy and her comments about trans people, she didn't get a pass on her views just because we loved her music

Its pointless everyone knows he could open an orphanage , dedicate his life to charity and buzzjack will still drag him because hes Ed sheeran

I have seen a lot of "I already didn't like him/I knew why I didn't like him" though which I feel takes away from the situation at hand and is unnecessary.

The only thing I don't understand (and this is not wilful ignorance; I'm genuinely trying to wrap my head around it) is why him not speaking out more forthrightly as a public figure makes him complicit.

It seems quite black-and-white to say "if you don't speak out, you're supporting the killing of children" which I don't think is fair.

Maybe by taking the stance he did, he misjudged how that would go down though.

I will say I have openly been a fan of Ed Sheeran (and P!nk) and disappointed in both for different reasons but im most disappointed in Ed because he had the chance to make a powerful statement to all the big venue people for this and yet he chose money over such.

And if my grandma had wheels she'd be a bicycle.

This is so so much more than people disliking Ed - plenty of people on here loved Pink and Roisin and y aren't getting a free pass for their views!

I really feel like that completely undermines why people are upset and isn't constructive whatsoever. I don't think anyone here has mentioned his music or anything either. It's a stupid argument to be had.

I don't think this is a sensible line of argument tbh. It's a slightly more important subject than whether Ed is popular with people or not, why trivialise it? Platforms are important and how people use them is also important, Thom Yorke suffered similar backlashes before for similar reasons. And as Addy! says above, people disagree with P!nk's stance on it as well.

The important thing isn't whether it was Ed's decision to remove Macklemore or not, it's whether they choose to paper over what's happening in the statement when they had an opportunity to do the right thing. I get that he's found himself in the middle of something he may not have anticipated being in, or something that he may not even feel well informed to comment on - and in that case he didn't have to make a statement at all... but that statement is one designed to protect revenue, it's about PR.

I agree Ed is an idiot and also that he deserves to be called out for it... but I also notice not one person is in the P!nk forum bashing her. Literally just one comment, and not even criticising her. 🤔

I think it's fair to say this has been a bigger news story than P!nk's situation has been?

Who knew we had a Pink forum

Happy to bash her too x

Has it? I hadn't heard anything about it before seeing it here and I've seen the P!nk story online... possibly because of my algorithms as I don't follow Ed at all but I do P!nk. Regardless of that, there is an actual P!nk forum on this site so her profile is certainly higher on here, yet people who have such strong convictions about supporting Palestine (I count myself one of them) can't even venture into it to comment on her also appalling behaviour... something she actively did herself no less not her promoters. It's a lot of the pot calling the kettle black really. 🤷

It isn't wildly off the mark to suggest Ed cops more flack on here than others for the same things... P!nk being the prime example.

I mean, the Ed/Macklemore situation was on BBC News - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq0m3pkmgg1ko - while nothing regarding P!nk has been on there. The P!nk forum's also pretty dead, let's be real. Not discussing P!nk doesn't mean the same people in this thread wouldn't still criticise her, it's just that... this thread was bumped, it's in a more visible section of the forum, and it's had significantly wider news coverage on actual news websites.

Fair enough I get your point, I still wasn't at all aware of it (but then I don't watch BBC news anymore), however I have seen Rolling Stone and Yahoo articles about P!nk.

Now everyone in here is aware... do go to the P!nk forum and express those views though, call her a coward and a piece of shit too., help give her forum a boost while at it. 🤭

It's really not - pot kettle black would be Pink calling out Ed Sheeran. Not people on a forum condemning something that has been brought into topic. It's quite insulting to suggest that people's views about a very serious issue come down to whether they like Ed or not, and it's just really disproportionate to enter any of this into a context around genocide of all things.

I hadn't seen the Pink story at all before it was mentioned in this thread and I'm equally as disappointed by her as I am by Ed, if not more so.
