Methodical Madness' song seems to be another bot-boosted thing. They're a band with about 50 followers on TikTok

I'm aware of them, they also do a lot of Girls Aloud cover versions

They've done an Insta story thanking their fans for 500,000 streams in the last day... yet their Insta posts can only just about manage 15 likes.

Spotify really needs to crack down on this stuff. Makes a mockery of the figures. Makes a mockery of the numbers.

It's like that Hotvibez-One time song that was new yesterday at #60 with 135,000, they literally have 5 followers on Youtube :D

I don’t think it’s that much of a problem, they only stick around for a couple of days at most before getting filtered out

Espresso is unstoppable - another day over 900k!

Amazing how long autoplay lasts these days.

I wasn’t expecting Billie to be #2 on Spotify. I hope she can knock Sabrina off #1 on Friday

A 3 week no1 doing your head in?

was about post, the autopayola for Espresso is still going on 100% full speed

played Billie's album 3 times, and 3 times Espresso comes on autoplay after the album is finished

so yes autopayola denialist, Espresso still has huge autopayola

Does it normally go on this long though? Record company must be paying a fortune. And also, is it not similar to record companies paying a fortune for R1 playlisting etc back in the day?

According to some forum members she’s be on autopayolo since it was released

And I don’t doubt that she has some autoplay but it’s sustained success is down to it being a popular song

Damn crazy a whole month of autoplay, surely making the difference in two close #1 races, you should let the OCC know about this scandal

Brilliant opening for billie, I suspected too 3 for lunch but its streams are a little higher than I thought they would be. Would be great for it to challenge espresso but at the same time I’m not too bothered. I don’t think personally auto-play is having the big impact some think, it’s extremely catchy and summer vibed tune which has timed perfectly with the weather so I think it’s a big hit in its own right.

I think a lot of it is down to the music you are listening to as Spotify often tries to match with your most recent listening habits, I haven’t heard it once from auto play this week and that’s from me listening to 00s pop music and it just suggested other 00s pop.

Do all the people moaning about auto play not realise they can just turn it off? Or just put their music on repeat?

People constantly trying to downplay how big Espresso is are getting weird.

I'm honestly surprised how many people on this forum seem to not have autoplay turned off. I've never had it on.

But anyway, this whole 'debate' doesn't really have anything to do with individual experiences with autoplay. Anecdotal evidence (this goes both ways) doesn't really tell you anything about the broader trend with autoplay, it's not as simple as autoplay giving everyone the same songs every time. The point is that Spotify does by their own admission allow certain songs to be weighted more heavily in the algorithm and it's pretty easy to spot when songs have unnaturally large increases and decreases that are wildly out of line with the general trend for the day / the song's previous trajectory / other streaming services and have no other explanation. And that definitely did appear to be the case for 'Espresso' when its numbers first blew up to their current level. Obviously her numbers have stabilised since then to a much greater extent than songs usually do after these autoplay boosts so it seems like she would have hit these numbers anyway (and she was already doing very well before the likely autoplay aided increase!) but as usual we seem to have a problem accepting any nuance between 'it's only because of autoplay' and 'it's not because of autoplay at all'.

Anyways... Billie adding to the pile of songs managing numbers that would have been an easy #1 almost any time last year but likely to miss out due to the crazy level of competition at the top of the charts recently!

Amazing numbers for Billie! Especially considering how competitive the charts are currently. I hope the album holds on strong in the coming days.

Same here, I've never had it turned on because I'm quite particular with what I want to listen to. I can understand why casual music listeners would want to have it on so that they can discover new music etc. but same as Bre, I'm surprised that people who are so into music that they regular post on a chart forum would have it switched on.

I'm pleasantly surprised by just how well Billie's album is doing. It's not completely to my taste but I do quite like at least half the songs and I can definitely appreciate its quality overall.

I agree with this.

Although what I see going on is:

- People who use the autoplay feature regularly are noticing Espresso is getting auto-played when it shouldn't be normally and it is/was probably getting the song 100,000-200,000 streams extra each day.

- People (I think who most likely don't use the autoplay feature) are claiming that we're all making this up, saying the song wouldn't be in the top 200 otherwise. Which is absolutely NOT what a single person has said.

And that's what is causing the arguments I think. It seems like fans of Espresso or whoever are getting insulted by people pointing out the autoplay boost and taking it personally.

All anybody is saying is that it probably would have peaked at 850,000 streams instead of 1 million without the autoplay deal. It's not anything to be upset/offended about. The labels are just doing their job and promoting the song really, and it will happen to a plethora of other songs in the future too.

And I just want to add that Stick Season didn't get anywhere near this much autoplay. It's not simply down to Espresso being a big hit.

I can confirm I have auto play turned off and espresso is played straight after finishing billies new album, finishing a playlist and even more than once. New Alexa goulding
Sounds like you don't have autoplay turned off then :P (I think Spotify does occasionally automatically turn it back on for everyone and you need to go and turn it back off)
