Posted June 1, 20241 yr apparently there's a wave of 2010s nostalgia starting already and one commentator (whose peak of relevance was also in the early 2010s) thinks it's all a bit silly TPQNbU7-VWM as a chart follower I do think there were way more pop hits that were to my taste back then. and as a 26 y/o the early 2010s is now half my life ago already. although I think we should let 00s nostalgia to have more of a moment before we bring give a full resurgence to Pitbull/Flo Rida/LMFAO type party music that appears to be next on the nostalgia cycle (and yes I was a huge stan of Party Rock Anthem back in the day, it's still a tune). not exactly desperate for LMFAO to get back together though as I heavily doubt they could recreate that magic again,
June 1, 20241 yr I feel nostalgic about 2010 (Katy, Rihanna, Gaga eras *.*) but anything later not so much yet.
June 1, 20241 yr It’s not too early, at all. At 26, you’re definitely due that feeling that chart music was better when your were a teenager, etc. I actually popped Now 76 on in the car today and have felt partly nostalgic but also horrified that some of that music was popular in 2010  But seriously, I think it’s a big thing for a lot of people mid twenties and older because of Covid. The tens sort of neatened out to a perfect end with things blowing up quickly in 2020. It’s been a pretty miserable half decade so far generally and the previous ten years are definitely something that can be looked upon fondly even if they weren’t perfect.
June 1, 20241 yr I started to listen music in 1999, everything before is retro for me. Even 25 years after I can’t name Geri Halliwell or Britney retro act. Edited June 1, 20241 yr by Last Dreamer
June 1, 20241 yr The chart hits by Wynter Gordon, Yasmin, Inna and Katy B are nostalgic for me from the early 2010s, not really LMFAO or Pitbull sorry.
June 1, 20241 yr 2010 was fourteen years ago, as an equivalent when we were in 2010, 1996 was fourteen years ago and I'm not sure anyone at the time would've said that's not retro, so in theory yes, the early 2010s were some time ago now so can be seen as retro to some people. Why it will likely feel weird is that the 2010s weren't really a defining era in the same way as decades before then, mainly due to our changing ways of life and technology's rapid advancement accounting for almost every cultural shift, thus it feels like we're generally liking the same things as we did a decade ago and nostalgia for older eras has become so in fashion. If you ask most of the public for a list of era-defining music, TV shows, pop culture, you probably wouldn't get a lot of answers from the 2010s compared to prior decades.

It might come to have a bit more definition in the future, which I'd say has also happened to the 90s and the 00s. Don't forget various trends of dance music in the early-mid 10s which I feel like belongs to a very limited period of time: Disclosure's first album, the 'Majestic Casual' sound, Maya Jane Coles & co's deep house being everywhere.
June 3, 20241 yr Maybe by 2030, the 2010's will be seen as nostalgic. However, I do not see anything that stands out from that decade. I remember the 2010's was dominated by heavily autotuned and synthesized club music from David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia and DJ Fresh which hasn't aged well. The 2000's wasn't perfect by any means but at least there was more variety. Edited April 10Apr 10 by montyj
June 3, 20241 yr People attach song to good memories which makes it seem like the actual quality of the music was better. LMFAO is a great example for me, I hated all their songs at the time and still do now. BUT when I hear Party Rock Anthem it evokes fun uni-related memories so that alone makes it seem like a more a enjoyable song when, if I separate the sentiment, I still think it sucks.

Probably why I play so many 00s songs I never used to like. See: Nickelback Rockstar
October 29, 2024Oct 29 For me it doesn't feel too early. At least for the first 4 or so years of the 2010's anyway. Just the other day 'All Time Low' by The Wanted came on the radio in the car and was like "ah haven't heard this in a long while" so was a nice nostalgic nod of some kind going back to that time period. I'm sure the 2014 presents is providing the same for some of you too as evident in that thread!
October 29, 2024Oct 29 To be fair, many big room house fans have already been 'nostalgic' for their Golden Era since 2019.
