I have gone from absolutely not being able to stand her to adoring her from Folklore. However very quickly again I am getting irritated by her.

This is exactly how I feel lmao 😭

No one is forcing you to buy.

But for many people with ASD, they are forced to buy for completions sake and the reasoning you have shown to not buy it is out of their cognitive realms. Also for many parents they are forced to buy because her young fans need every variant. No one is forcing you to buy then but for many others it's not as simple as that!

So do people with Autism have spending issues? The reason I am asking is because I have Austism myself. I have over spent on things myself at times.

Personally I don't think she's threatened. She is just in the midst of becoming the best-selling artist to have ever lived and she is really pushing to make sure she has all the accolades to back that up. If she had all her certifications updated properly in the US, she would be the most certified artist in the world. She's the queen of capitalism in the music business.

Also I think too many people deflect decisions to her team/label. Taylor obviously has total control/say over her career and the team she's surrounded with will be people she's hired/picked out. So the decisions her team are making are reflective of Taylor to a degree.

She's coming for 1 billion+ sales now. And in the middle of her tour she wants to make sure she's at the top wherever she can. Although I wouldn't be surprised if there was some pettiness mixed in in some weeks (mainly Billie in the US & Charli in the UK).

I think all of this in summary though is pretty much the reason she's annoying people so much right now

When you start to care about accolades, certifications, status, breaking records, etc so much more than the very fabric and roots of what you supposedly love doing most, are you really in the business for the right reasons? It's great to be successful with your artistry, but (personally) Taylor really has let quality fall by the wayside in favour of chasing the spotlight of being the first/only artist to achieve x, y and z. Give us another album like 1989 and I'd say it's warranted, but everything she's churned out since Lover has just been in the name of capitalism.

It would be so interesting to sit in on the discussions Taylor/her label/her team have, regarding the planning of these extra digital/CD versions, and exactly why they're doing them!

To be honest, I lean towards last week not being a planned attack against Charli XCX specifically. That's just my feeling. It would surely have taken a little while to plan those Taylor digital releases - the different artworks / finalising the recordings included / signing off on them / creating them. I feel like they had to have been planned for a little while, because they were released to mark the 100th show in Liverpool, which is very specific. I feel like it was ultimately a coincidence that this happened on the final day of the chart week that Charli XCX had released in.

In the end, we know that it wasn't even those downloads that clinched it for Taylor, but the drip feed of signed CDs at random points throughout the week. Rumoured to be as many as 13,000 copies. The power of Taylor to be able to sell so many copies, over the course of just a few minutes... is sensational.

The following that I'm about to write is of course with the benefit of hindsight, and I think it would have been asking a lot of Charli's label to have even considered this while working on launching her album... but perhaps it just wasn't the best idea to release Brat in the same week that Taylor Swift arrived to the UK with the juggernaut of the Eras tour. It was perhaps always likely that Taylor was going to do something while she was here. I wouldn't be all that surprised if there's more to come too, maybe more signed CDs next week - she does have two days off before Cardiff, and two days off afterwards, before her Wembley shows. If she/the label are motivated to make next week another huge sales week, it's quite literally in her hands to achieve that. Maybe that will help in it becoming apparent that the goal was only ever to stay at #1 / sell a lot, rather than it be a vendetta against another artist. Who knows - I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt that it's not personal, but being insatiably ambitious.

Of course the issue remains about why she feels the need to do these new variants, in the way she's doing them. 1 bonus track across 6 different digital albums costing £5.99 (?) each... is eyebrow raising at best, exploitative at worst.

I'll be interested if she ever does address the online storm of anger following the Billie Eilish/Charli XCX chart controversies. Will she defend herself, or is she just so powerful at this point that it's simply not in her interests to feel the need to address such things.

I do agree with you there , The label could have easy of made 1 digital special with those 6 extras instead of 6 different versions. Like why would I want to download the album 6 times using up my money and memory card.

I don't think she will comment on it because what ever she said it wouldn't stop the blacklash.

I've just had a thought about this, could it happen to anyone if they reached the point where they're literally the biggest artist in the world on such a gigantic level? I mean, we all saw how Adele got so consumed by it and lost touch with reality.
with the whole album blocking charade - i wonder what she'll do next week. i think gracie's album could perform similarly to maisie peters' the good witch which got to #1 on 20k sales - if gracie could be close will taylor let her have her moment? especially with the fact that shes featured on it? i guess it'll show if the extra downloads & signed cds have been inteltional to keep the #1 - i know they more than likely have been but weather she does next week or not will basically confirm if they;ve been intentional to block others and to keep the #1 - will she play favourites? im intrigued to see how it plays out

I don’t think Adele ever really played the chart game though. Her success was crazy level but she never seemed to push hard or care about the charts the way Taylor does (or like Ed does). 30 for example could’ve been a lot bigger had she really went for it. But with Adele she also took significant gaps between her releases and with Taylor because of the eras tour and her re-recordings she’s been prominently releasing with no gaps since 2019 now.

Taylor’s an extremely smart business woman who’s very clued up about that side of things. I don’t necessarily think her intent is to sabotage others though and it’s more she has her own goals she wants to achieve and she manages it and then some.

lol this is one of the most stupid things I have ever read. Parents needs to tell their children no it’s as simple as that. I wanted everything Spice Girls for my collection in 1997 and my parents got some some of it but wouldn’t pay over odds or buy everything. It’s called being a parent.

Also you choose to be a collector and you can easily just stop, in fact sell the collection I made a lot of money for charity selling my Spice Girls one when I realised it was sat in boxes doing nothing.

Im not bothered either way whether she releases 100 variants, get those sales if people are going to buy them, this always happens with fan culture, as soon as anyone gets too successful or too ambitious people turn on them.

If only it was that easy! I mean of course they do but until you're a parent and/or work with children on a daily basis I think that's easier said than done. I am able to compromise with the kids but some parents simply can't, many of whom are very young themselves and give in. As a teacher I spend huge amounts of time dealing with supporting parents with factors such as these.

Calm the tone down with that first line? We're having a discussion you don't need to be so abrupt and call my views stupid...

And that's really really good for you that you had that upbringing and subsequently sold and made money from it all but that's not the case for everyone.

I work with children with ASD and am fairly sure I am on the spectrum too and the need to own things and collect and complete sets for some of the children and myself is a humongous burden and one that I wish I could tame and control but my brain doesn't allow me to and nor does it do so for some people I work with.

So actually no. I can't "easily just stop" but I am so happy you are able to! If my brain was wired the same way as yours maybe I could too but alas it's not, so ~ don't tell me it is easy when for me and my brain, it is impossibly difficult.

I totally missed the ASD part of your comment so I apologise for that, however, I’m not apologising for anyone who believes parents have no choice but to spoil their child having a ridiculous view. Parents are parents not best friends. I am also a teacher and have worked with children for 13 years now, most issues of behaviour come from those who cannot parent properly, this being a key example.

The word stupid was a bit unfair, I didn’t mean it as if you were personally stupid more than any parent who doesn’t know how to say no is.

I have gone from absolutely not being able to stand her to adoring her from Folklore. However very quickly again I am getting irritated by her.

I’ve been a huge fan since about 2008 and I now am heading the same way  When someone gets this big and you cannot escape hearing about them, her fans are often borderline insane, and she’s releasing so much music I can’t really bring myself to care, with TTPD I just had 0 interest really and just took maybe 2 or 3 songs from it.

It’s not her fault really but the media circus and unparalleled hype around the Eras tour has contributed, it’s become like some kind of clout status symbol on social media almost. Like to the point where say a year ago I was a huge fan, maybe even a stan, and now I don’t really care at all that I didn’t have tickets  Idk it’s really weird to feel and hard to explain, I still enjoy the music, especially from when I was a huge fan, but I couldn’t be less arsed about her at present.

On missing the part about ASD, I'd suggest reading the post fully before responding and quoting it in full then!

And I think we are in agreement about the parenting aspect - who wouldn't be!? But parents of children with ASD, if the child's need is to have complete sets of things (train sets, figurines, collectable cards, albums...) then the choice parents have in "spoiling" their child because more complicated. They are not spoiling their child by meeting their needs I'd argue, it's just that this involves large sums of money.

What I am saying is that parents should NOT be forced to buy things for their kids, of course not. But that this becomes much more complex with additional needs and it's not as black and white as you're making out. I wouldn't call a parent in this situation stupid either, especially as a teacher of many children with needs.

I still think it’s one of the most ridiculous things I have read that you expect someone not to release multiple variants because there are some parents out there who have children with ASD so full post or not it stands tbh. Maybe I didn’t word it politely fair enough but my opinion hasn’t changed.

All programs and screening and shows should be captioned for those who are deaf but it doesn’t stop people attending none captioned screenings that leave out the deaf, or the ones who do go not realising, complaining about it 🤷‍♂️.

Show me where you read that I said she shouldn't release multiple variants because of this discussion   quote this for me please because I can't see it and I'm the one that made the posts....

Have you read any of the posts you're quoting and arguing with!?

So you think the multiple variants is fine. Glad we cleared that up. Not totally sure why you felt the need to bring up your points other than to criticise her.

I’m not even really a fan, I have never bought a TS album in my life, got to admire her business savvy though.

No. I find the multiple variants overkill and unnecessary. Especially ones where only one song has been added in. And the reason I brought up the other points was because someone said "no one is forcing you to buy them" and that it's easy to not buy them all, when in fact for some people this isn't the case. I was directly replying to another poster. This post:

No one is forcing you to buy.

It's really not that deep. Just that.. for some people the huge amount of variants will be hard to not buy all of, which is a fact?

The lack of reading here is making my head hurt~

I'm a huge Taylor fan. I have all of her Taylor Version albums on vinyl except for this one because I'm waiting for a version that has standard and anthology editions together. She's one of my most played artists, I've gone to Taylor specific club nights, I eagerly anticipate most releases she does...
