BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2024 week 11 and auto-qualifying for the March monthly round is Ariana Grande - we can't be friends (wait for your love).

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2024 week 12 and auto-qualifying for the March monthly round is Meghan Trainor and T-Pain - Been Like This.

Week 11 was unsurprisingly dominated by Ariana Grande who claimed her second poll win with nearly unanimous approval for 'we can't be friends (wait for your love)', the second single from her 7th studio album 'eternal sunshine', earning the support of a stunning 88% of voters. She also finished in 2nd place with the album track 'bye', albeit with only just over half as many votes, a total of 14 votes behind. 5 further votes behind in 3rd was the only other song to hit double figures from Jax Jones and Zoe Wees (and/or Cascada). Just as many songs failed to hit the 5 vote threshold, with 4batz' song becoming (iirc) only the 4th member of the super exclusive 0 votes club to date, just behind Clavish who is one of the previous artists to achieve such a snub but managed to get 1 vote this time, and Gracie Abrams managing 2 votes.

Week 12 didn't have anything close to as overwhelming of a favourite, with the win going to Meghan Trainor and T-Pain, both unsurprisingly notching their first poll wins with 'Been Like This', the lead single to Meghan's 6th studio album 'Timeless'. A choice was made. But it was with the support of only 41% of voters. 4 votes behind in joint 2nd were the other two songs to just about hit double figures, both from people named Mark. I'd hoped Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes might eke out a niche win amongst a list which didn't have any particularly obvious BuzzJack faves but it wasn't to be. Mark Ambor probably benefits from the poll being months late as the song was a pretty obscure low top 100 scrape to begin with but of course went on to be a long running top 20 hit. Only one song failed to reach the 5 vote threshold here, the wooden spoon going to BTS member V who only managed 2 votes. 'None of the above' managed to hit 5 votes here, tying with ZAYN.

Sorry for this being a week late again whoops (I partly blame the England match distracting me last Sunday night but then I partly wrote up this thread earlier in the week but abandoned it before posting ). We now cover the last week of March and the first of April, the former of which I think must be the first one of these polls to have 3 different artists all having 3 new entries each (technically 4 if you count Metro Boomin separately).

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

I will again aim to get the next poll up next Sunday night / Monday morning x (and decided my new plan for the monthly rounds is to put up February and March together after the results of this pair of polls, we'll see if I can stick to that, aren't I a reliable host).

'Like That' is one of the most exhilarating and instantaneously catchy songs to be released this year. The Metro production is fantastic as always and that Kendrick verse caught people's attention because it is an incredibly strong diss (same goes for the rest of his diss track tbh). Future's best performance on a song ever for me. In terms of the other 'WE DON'T TRUST YOU' tunes: 'Type Shit' starts a bit stale but once Travis serenades us with his atmospheric bridge, the song gets much better. 'Cinderella' is the better Future x Metro x Travis collab imo. The beat is just more production perfection from Metro and Future + Travis flow extremely well over the beat. 'Too Sweet' is probably the 3rd best #1 of this year for me (behind 'Stick Season' and 'Fortnight'), Hozier gives a great vocal performance and the production is continuing that 'Unreal Unearth' sounds very nicely. Big Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy' vibes from it additionally. It was delightful to see him secure a #1 in the UK after one of the greatest hits of all-time was robbed from the top nearly a decade ago  And the bangers keep coming with ORod's 'obsessed'. The 'GUTS' deluxe defo has some songs that I would've preferred on the original (namely 'obsessed' and 'so american'). 'so american' is a really refreshing song lyrically for Olivia and it is so damn fun and memorable. It ranks in Olivia's all-time top 5 for me. 'stranger' is a lovely little tune  'i like the way you kiss me' is easily the best Artemas song I've heard, such a breath of fresh air in the charts. Before I heard 'Slow It Down' I didn't like any Benson Boone songs that I'd heard previously..... 'Slow It Down' doesn't change that at all :kink: 'Jump' is ok but it does feel a little mid, even if Tyla serves powerful vocals. Same goes for 'ART' as well oop. As for the other Hozier songs, they're both fab. The Alek Olsen track is pleasant enough...

Damn, this is such a strong week.

Voted for Future + Metro x3, Hozier x3, Olivia x3 and Artemas :o

Week 14:

Beyoncé & Miley Cyrus - II MOST WANTED | 8.5/10

Beyoncé - JOLENE | 7.5/10

Becky Hill - Outside Of Love | 7/10

ILLIT - Magnetic | 6.5/10

j-hope, Gaeko and Yoonmirae - NEURON | 6.5/10

G-Eazy - Lady Killers II | 3/10

Alex Warren - Save You a Seat | 2/10

Camila Cabello - I LUV IT (feat. Playboi Carti) | 1/10

'JOLENE' is far from the best track on 'COWBOY CARTER' but it is a lovely little interpretation of the Dolly classic. I've seen 'II MOST WANTED' get slated across the internet but I actually really like the track. I love the warmth that radiates between Bey and Miley's vocal chemistry! 'Outside Of Love' is seriously one of Becky's best songs from recent years, I think I ranked it comfortably at 2nd from the tracks on her new album (behind 'Right Here iirc). It is a tad generic but it does work well. What in god's name is 'I LUV IT'??? It felt like a terrible attempt at being 'out there' for Camila, the production is slightly ambitious but the hook is maybe the worst of this year. We also don't appreciate Carti's Minecraft villager-esque ramblings x. 'NEURON' is a surprisingly good j-hope song. A commercial comeback for G-Eazy is not something we needed in 2024... 'Magnetic' is my first time hearing ILLIT and it's pretty good, sounds like a grower! And to top it off, we have another disposable Alex Warren track.....

Voted for Queen Bey x2 and Becky

11. Tyla - ART

13. Future, Metro Boomin, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti - Type Shit

14. Alek Olsen - someday i'll get it

Voting for the 3 Olivia Rodrigo tracks this week. 'obsessed' is definitely my favourite of the 3. It's so fun, I wish it held up more. 'so american' was a nice album track too. 'stranger' is a bit forgettable but still just about enough for a vote.

'Jump' is the best of the Tyla tracks. Skillibeng sounds great but the chorus is a bit meh that stops the track from being great. 'Art' is just pretty dull.

I liked 'Wildflower And Barley'. The voices voices blend great but I can see why it was 'Too Sweet' that became the hit. It's the catchiest song I've heard from him. 'Empire Now' is the least memorable of the three.

In terms of the Metro/Future tracks, 'Like That' is carried by Kendrick and 'Cinderella' is stronger than 'Type Shit' because it doesn't have Carti. The rest of the song is pretty repetitive too.

I don't mind the chorus in 'i like the way you kiss me' but never got into the verses. The high-pitched vocals work better than the low ones. 'Slow It Down' is ok for what it is but feels lesser than his #1 hit. 'someday i'll get it' makes 90 seconds feel like 90 minutes.

Week 14

1. Camila Cabello - I LUV IT (feat. Playboi Carti)

2. ILLIT - Magnetic

3. G-Eazy - Lady Killers II

4. j-hope, Gaeko and Yoonmirae - NEURON

5. Beyoncé - JOLENE

6. Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus - II MOST WANTED

7. Becky Hill - Outside Of Love

8. Alex Warren - Save You A Seat

Voting for Camila and ILLIT this week. I can see why 'I LUV IT' is so divisive but I'm really on board for Camila this era. I just wish Carti wasn't trying his hardest to bring it down. I'd never heard about ILLIT before but 'Magnetic' sounds pretty good.

G-Eazy is as mid as ever on 'Lady Killers II' but the remix works surprisingly well. 'Neuron' has my favourite chorus from a BTS solo-er. On a weaker week it may have picked up a vote.

The vocals on 'Jolene' feel a bit flat and 'II Most Wanted' might be more interesting without Miley.

I appreciate that 'Outside Of Love' is a slightly different sound from her hits but it's so bland. 'Save You A Seat' is a flush.

Week 13: even at the time, this seemed an unusually strong week - voted 'Too Sweet', 'obsessed' and Artemas

Week 14: no vote, sorry
