Be angry. Be outraged. The alternative is to be scared and that's what they want but screw them. This is your country as much as it is their's and they don't get to decide how it's run. They're a backward thinking minority. Be careful, be vigilant and stay safe, but don't let them win by hiding away.

 

The British people have been facing down this type of scum since Cable Street in 1936 and will continue to do so. Maybe direct action isn't for you. Absolutely fair enough, but rest assured the huge majority stand with you.

I had a moment earlier where I did feel fearful, like what could happen if I went outside etc. I've never had this feeling before because they've tended to be isolated incidents that are one day here and there, not five days in a row.

 

There's already been, what, a few hundred people arrested? It's clearly not been enough of a deterrent though.

 

That's what they want you to feel. It's utterly shameful. Can fully understand your view of not feeling safe, but this is exactly what these people want. The best way to beat bullies is to stand up to them. Most of the people instigating this hatred would shit their pants if someone stood up to them properly.

 

The arrests will come, it will take a while, but the good news as there is so much social media footage they'll get a lot of them. I think it took 1-2 years to work through the backlog of the 2011 riots .

True, I always forget they are much louder but still thankfully I like to think a minority.

I saw that before. It’s really disgusting how they spoke to her, they’re generally awful at their job. They looked stupid when speaking to Rhun ap Iorwerth from Plaid during the election but this is an absolutely different level. Forgetting talking over Zarah, why do they ask such idiotic questions like ‘why is it important to say it’s Islamophobia?’

It feels like they're afraid of calling it what it is because they're afraid of Farage and his ilk taking exception to the idea that they are "far right", but I think they would do that anyway.

It's always a fear of calling it what it is in this country, the fact is we have a massive racism problem that's beyond microagressions and slurs (not to minimise that type of hate) and there's not enough being done to address it, it links back to so much, not just these riots. Arguably that's why Brexit happened, why the likes of Nigel Farage won seats etc. People will find any excuse to try and justify their ignorant views and beliefs, it seems to be patriotism is the favoured one in Britain a lot of the time.

Hope there will be zero tolerance from the police this week and it will be quieter.

I spoke too soon. My dad's been forwarded a screen grab from some group chat planning a riot today on my road.

 

The police are aware of it and my GP has sent a text telling everyone to stay indoors. They're closing early.

I can't say I'm surprised. Even I myself have faced racism in the UK, and I'm white! My dad even now gets microaggressions too.

 

The whole debate over racism here has got totally twisted with people finding all kinds of ways to be racist while justifying it to themselves that they arent.

I got a notification saying Keith Starmer was preparing to address the country on the state of the streets, idk if he has already as I'm at work but we'll see how that goes I suppose

We've had a message today from one of the permanent secretaries (which basically is ultimately our boss) and he was very blunt about what's happening, not shying away from calling those responsible 'racists' and 'islamophobic'. I thought of T Boy's post earlier in this thread when I read the message and thought how reassuring it was to see the head of our organisation not scared to call it out and to write as directly to those affected employees as he could to emphasise that no similar behaviours would be tolerated.

What I hope doesn't get lost amongst all this is the actions of Axel Rudakubana. If he doesn't get sentenced to the harshest punishment possible then something isn't right and I wouldn't be surprised if these riots unfortunately repeat themselves when he's back in the news in October for his next court date. He is probably enjoying this ongoing fallout sparked by his actions.

I’ve seen a warning about a right-wing demonstration in Brighton on Wednesday, advising people to steer clear of the area :( It doesn’t affect me directly as I am away from the city atm, but it is worrying that they (almost certainly from outside the city) are planning to target the office of an immigration lawyer.

I was thinking over the weekend of the geographical spread of the riots and they are generally in smaller cities/towns and London and Birmingham haven’t been as much effected, thought Brighton may have fitted that criteria.
