I already LOVE the song but that mix just ELEVATES it even more!

I mean for the classic it is, it should really be 2x platinum!!! Nice to see her getting another cert though, and so soon after Slow!

Excellent news. Fingers crossed for a few more inc T2 silver and KMO Gold album certs. They must be close.

To be fair, Spinning Around was at 245,000 units by the end of 2000. By the end of the decade, it had only sold another 31,000 units to get to 276,000 sales. Then by early 2014 it was at 300,000 sales, but downloads died down so that by 2018 it had 314,000 units. I would guess it's probably around 325,000 pure sales now, with the rest of its figure (~275,000 units) coming from streaming. That means the bulk of its sales has happened in the past 10 years or so, so the 25 years figure is a bit misleading lol

Does this mean like physicals / downloads and not streams?

Vast majority of it will be streaming units, that's 778 units per week since August 2020 (which is when it went Gold/400,000)

So that means it should be 2x Platinum in April 2040!

cheeseblockJust in time for its 40th anniversary (omg at the idea of the song being this old someday)

I don't think there's many, but one I think should happen some time soon is Silver for 'The Loco-motion' as it never received a certification back in the day. Sold about 376k in the 80s which increased to 434k in 2018 (pure sales). Streams accounted for about 110k in 2023, giving an overall total of 544k and about 30k off of achieving 200k sales in the digital era.

Given that The Loco-Motion had sold 434k by 2018, why isn't it already certified in the UK?

As the single was released prior to the sales thresholds being lowered, if it must achieve the previous higher levels (Silver 250k, Gold 500k, and Platinum 1m) then shouldn't it be Silver certified?

The other single I'm curious about is Wouldn’t Change a Thing which had sold 370k by 2014, so I can't see why it isn't certified Silver.

It’s a combination of her label not bothering to apply for a certification back then (which is how it was done) and not yet having sold 200,000 since 1994.

(The “since 1994” thing made Especially for You’s recent-ish Platinum certification a head scratcher!)
