Potentially outing their roommate/partner/landlord/whatever to the entire world is a gross breach of privacy rights. Regardless of if you believe or agree with the idea that a person can be transgender, any persons cooperating with such a large investigation with world wide media attention should be given as much privacy protections as possible- by publishing this they are opening this person up to retaliatory actions by deranged individuals that could not only significantly harm the person in question but entirely undermine and derail a prosecution if they provide crucial evidence they can no longer testify to because a magat killed them

The most meaningful thing about the assassination so far is not the esoteric profile of the perpetrator but the immediate calls for dire repercussions (themes ranging from violence or some form of anti-democratic repression) against anybody deemed to be left-wing that were widely shared by conservatives - and that goes from politically engaged randoms to the actual US president. 'This is our Reichstag fire' indeed.

I do hope you’re right that this is just a lone wolf event in history with no real wider significance, otherwise I do really worry about where things are heading. Sure Charlie Kirk’s views were extreme and pretty unpleasant in some areas. But if we’re saying the sanctity of human life isn’t such an important value anymore if someone’s deemed a political enemy, whoever it is, and that huge swathes of the population would cheer on a lynching, whether against someone on the left or right, I think we’re on the path back to savagery.

I’ve seen this from the left too - “let’s get X next”. I find that sort of thing very chilling wherever it comes from.

I don't have anything to add that's not already been said and quite frankly I don't think he deserves any more time spent talking or thinking about him, that's what frustrates me, is how focussed everyone is on this story regardless of what their views are on it when there's far more tragic things going on in the world.

That video of the Ukrainian girl getting stabbed on an American subway for example, I haven't stopped thinking about this since I saw it and I'm shocked that people would rather talk about Charlie f***ing Kirk over a completely unprovoked attack where multiple people witnessed it and still didn't help her, some even walked away and left her slumped on the floor?!
