So Wham down 6k and Gracie up 70k from last weeks Saturday numbers. Might not matter but interesting

Brenda ahead of Mariah is crazy.

They’ve changed the order of songs on Christmas hits yesterday, Sabrina’s been moved up to #5 and I assume McCartney must have been moved up too.

Elton and the Pogues seem to have been moved down.

Spotify

1 Thats so true 557K

2 Wham 942/2=471K

3 Brenda L 835/2=417K

Leona has also been placed much lower. Here’s hoping OMS gains in the UK top 50 help counter this drop.

I know I’m just repeating what’s been said for years but Brenda Lee’s success here just feels so artificial. In 2007 and 2008 when Christmas classics first started appearing in the charts again, she was barely scraping the top 100 (#94 in 2007 while Mariah was #4!), it just exposes how… Americanised and standardised Spotify’s playlists are and I wish they didn’t have so much influence on the charts

it's a pity Brenda L is kinda low on Amazon, #14 for what I see,

and even lower on Apple at #24

I guess Apple's Xmas playlists are less Americanized since Shakin' is #2, Elton-Step into Xmas #3, Pogues #4

I kind of see what you mean, although I feel like 'Jingle Bell Rock' is a much more stark example of this.

Great to see Tyla reach a new peak again despite the Christmas song rise. Holding well on Apple Music too at #167.

Also to note on Amazon:

124. Leona Lewis & Calum Scott - "Give A Little Bit"

Nice to see this charting on Amazon. Although won't stand much of a chance of charting in the actual chart. Although the song is for charity so maybe a small push may see it chart in the top 100 with the right campaign behind it.

it's a pity Brenda L is kinda low on Amazon, #14 for what I see,

and even lower on Apple at #24

I guess Apple's Xmas playlists are less Americanized since Shakin' is #2, Elton-Step into Xmas #3, Pogues #4

They are, much better than Spotify!

Artificial or not its nice to see christmas songs do better than Mariah, ideally would do better than wham too but we can't have everything
Brenda's rise is linear to Home Alone's popularity among the gens Y and Z.

Yeh this and the Mel and Kim version def helped it along, doubt it would have done much on airplay before 2015 though?

Shaky not Shakin' when he's referred to by one word.

And it actually didn't do that well in the US either until the last few years. It reached top ten on Hot 100 for the first time in 2019 and finally #1 in 2023. So no, it's not popular JUST because of the Americanized playlists on Spotify, it just has grew on popularity in general.

I believe that Apple's playlists are geoblocked or something! I think that's why it seems easier for new releases to take off there, than they do on Spotify.
