December 28, 20241 yr Thanks for all the effort with the thread Joseph, was entertaining to read through while slacking off during an afternoon with a lot of downtime at work :lol: I predicted from the start of the year that 'Stick Season' would be very hard to dislodge from the EOY #1 and it ended up being closer than I expected frankly, I've definitely heard it a few dozen too many times at this point but it's still a good song (definitely my favourite of the top 4, and maybe of the top 5 though it's close with 'Too Sweet') so not begrudging it. The 6-8 section is miles better than the rest of the top 10 for me, two excellent songs from Billie and Chappell + Shaboozey's not quite as deep but it's still a lot of fun and I haven't found myself getting as tired of it from overplay as some of the other biggest hits of the year. Elsewhere in the list other highlights are Artemas making the top 20, Zach Bryan sticking it out in the top 40 with the bonus of 'Something In The Orange' being top 100 too and '360' just about managing to scrape into the top 100. The distortionary effect of varying levels of ACR dodging and different release dates still makes some of the positions feel a bit wonky to me but that's just how it's always going to be from now on I guess - it just feels very odd to see 'BACKBONE' and 'Guess' being pretty comfortably in but 'That's So True' missing out for example, and it doesn't really feel like 'Guess' was that much bigger of a hit than 'Apple' despite the higher peak obviously. And honestly I hadn't really clocked how well 'we can't be friends (wait for your love)' had stuck around in the top 100, feels like it was a relatively short lived hit just because it didn't swerve ACR for very long! From this week's chart, good to see Brenda Lee back at her peak (hopefully she'll best the Amazon flavour of the year and/or Mariah for a #2/3 peak one of these years) and the solid new peaks for The Ronettes and José Feliciano (cmon top 10 contenders next year), small new peak for Nat King Cole and John Williams being top 40 for the first time. Somewhat pleased at Perry Como finally scraping in too (so his first new top 40 hit for 50 years I guess!), the song is not a huge favourite for me in any form but I do like his original more than the Bublé version! Plus yay for 'Fairytale Of New York' ending up being quite comfortable in its top 10 spot this year, 'Step Into Christmas' making the top 10 again after a few years missing out and 'Wonderful Christmastime' reaching its highest position in the streaming era to date *.*
