Most Weeks At Number 2 Without Getting to Number 1 - UK Singles Chart

8 - Terry's Theme From Limelight - Frank Chacksfield and his Orchestra ( 1953 )

7 - Love Letters In The Sand - Pat Boone ( 1957 )

7 - I Swear - All-4-One ( 1994 )

7 - Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 / Christina Aguilera ( 2011 )

7 – Murder On The Dancefloor – Sophie Ellis-Bextor ( 2001 / 2002 / 2024 )

7* - APT - Rose / Bruno Mars ( 2024 / 2025 )

Which of these songs do people think was the “unluckiest”?

Moves Like Jagger given it was also #2 on the year end list

Sad to see Fat Juicy & Wet already out of the top 40 at #42. :(

I'd say it's a fair shout objectively, especially as it was finally gonna get it and then Rihanna swooped in with a midweek release of 'We Found Love' and took it

Probably the one that spent 8 weeks

Gaga to go 6-1? *_* Amazing debut and hopefully the momentum continues into next week! :cheer:

Also great to see Billie's - "The Greatest" charting in the top 100 finally.

I wish we had weekly “sales” figures from 1952-1979 so we could see how close Frank Chacksfield was to Frankie Laine!
Missed the chart today but happy to see the Weeknd do so well, Not Like Us returning and top 20 for Doechii. Props to Gaga for being 6 after 4 days, doing better than Texas Hold Em last year! The ACR clearout next week and the continued rise of Grammy-related songs will definitely make things interesting

That was because a pre-UK release cover by Cover Girl was charting?!

Play the new songs instead of the old songs. That’s why the chart was much better on a Sunday when everything got played instead of them picking and choosing what songs to play

Through the 80s the picked which songs to play and didn’t play every song albeit they played no40/new entries/climbers etc!

This is an actual query - why is it so amazing/iconic etc for Gaga to score a top 10 hit? She’s one of the biggest pop stars on the planet!

Being a huge star in the past doesn't guarantee success though

She's still huge now

The surprise at Gaga doing so well this week is that it went to number 6 after just 4 days, it's usually pretty difficult for song that were released late in the week to get so high

Gaga hasn't always been in a position where she's guaranteed top 10 with any single she releases. Perfect Illusion was a lead single and of course missed the top 10, and whilst The Cure was a hit less than six months later, it also wasn't ever a top 10 hit. Even Shallow didn't debut top 10. Obviously Shallow's huge success coupled with the positive reception of the Chromatica era hugely helped Gaga, but to be achieving top 10 debuts 16 years after her debut single is worth celebrating - even more so when Abracadabra just outpeaked Disease with three fewer days of availability!

Yes, Gaga is (present tense) one of the biggest stars on the planet, and that in itself is worth celebrating with so many years of success under her belt now. Not many get this far and still achieve huge singles chart success, particularly when Gaga's career was said to be "over" at various moments.

Plus the song's obviously very popular on here, people love to see a song they enjoy doing well, even if it's the most obvious hit single of all time.

Tbf look how low sales are for this week's chart and it's possibly why she got there so easy , if she had double sales would if only been scraped number 2 only 4 spots higher

That says more about the top 5 being significantly further ahead of the pack and more spaced out than it does about Gaga really.

Abracadabra's sales would've been enough for a top 10 debut any week so far this year so it's still a remarkable achievement!

"Scraped #2" interesting choice of words considering some of the biggest hits of 2024 only scraped #2 as well (BOAF, DWAS, GLB etc.).

Not really when you double gagas sales it's literally only 134 sales more than APT so it would of just scraped this week

But she is growing in sales anyway

Also your examples had multiple weeks at 2 so not really scraping
