  • I've listened to both of these songs hundreds of times and never noticed any of those in the lyrics. Mind blown!!

Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya 'I got Prince singing Hot Thing to me, I know every line'

You've all missed the greatest one in existence!!!

Chipmunk - Oopsy Daisy

"You see me grow from a Boy to a man coz this must really be the end of the road" (Boyz II Men - End Of The Road)

"Now I feel like The Saturday's all week coz me and my heart got crazy issues" (The Saturdays - Issues)

---

Little Mix - Between Us (Several of their own hits!)

The Saturdays - Disco Love (A couple of songs in this Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive & 'Baby One More Time' by Britney are mentioned)

Charli XCX & Troye Sivan - 1999 (Several iirc!)

James Blunt - Love Me Better ("saw you standing outside a bar, would have said you're beautiful but I used that line before"

Ed Sheeran - Castle on the Hill ("singing to Tiny Dancer")

^thanks, but that isn't what I was looking for, I meant direct mentions of the song

not using the title in a sentence like rihanna saying Hold me close I'm your tiny dancer

more like when Ed sings I'm driving singing to Tiny Dancer

and especially if there is a commentary on the song other than just like listening

like in the Phoebe Bridgers song where she sings "We hate Tears in Heaven but it's sad his baby died"

The first one that springs to mind is Hands Open by Snow Patrol:

Put Sufjan Stevens on, and we'll play your favorite song,
Chicago bursts to life in your sweet smile remembers you

Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” has a nice couple of Slow Jamz mentions:

Bobby Womack’s “If You Think You’re Lonely Now”, and Babyface’s “Two Occasions”. Never heard of them before and now I love them thanks to Miss Mimi

Rihanna - SOS -> also references 'Tiny Dancer'

Not only that, but the entire second verse is 80s song titles strung together to form sentences!

  • Take On Me

  • I Just Died In Your Arms

  • I Melt With You

  • Head Over Heels

  • You Keep Me Hanging On

  • The Way You Make Me Feel

Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya

'I got Prince singing Hot Thing to me, I know every line'

Ricky Martin - "Livin' La Vida Loca" was mentioned - part sung, in fact - in Sisqo "Thong Song".

And Little Mix sampled Thong Song in their song Love A Girl Right, including the sung part "livin' la vida loca"!

Surprised no one's mentioned Kylie's 'Step Back In Time' yet, as that references loads of 70s songs, including Blame It On The Boogie, Walking In Rhythm, Ball Of Confusion, Love Train, Float On and probably a few more... in fact I challenge anyone to find me a song that mentions more song titles!

I know one! It's a country song, but Old Dominion - Song For Another Time mentions probably 20 other songs (of various eras/genres - link goes to its Genius page)

^as I've said a few times, not looking for songs that have song titles as part of the lyrics

but lyrics that specifically mention a song, especially if it's a commentary

so not looking for songs that say "you're my tiny dancer" or "you're my candle in the wind" or "let's boogie"

an example is last night's mascara where Griff says she's listening to Enya-Orinoco Flow

Garbage - Bleed Like Me mentions 'I Will Survive' in that context

J.T. gets all f***ed up in some karaoke bar
After two drinks he's a loser, after three drinks he's a star
Getting all nostalgic as he sings "I Will Survive"

Fair enough, I didn't read that part.

Just remembered this example from Olivia Rodrigo's 'deja vu':

I'll bet that she knows Billy Joel
'Cause you played her "Uptown Girl"
You're singing it together
Now I bet you even tell her
How you love her
In between the chorus and the verse

(pop culture references in general of course extend to watching reruns of Glee in the same song)
