We should all do a mass text-in telling them to read out the chart! They clearly have the list, even if they won't play the songs they should still mention numbers throughout.

With all due respect I really don't think they will care that much

  • Boo! I’d tuned in specially to hear “Lose Control” for the 374th time.

  • Don't think Jamie has done enough running yet, maybe he can run down the chart once he's finished

I think what bothered me most wasn't the coverage of Jamie Laing's marathon, but it was the fact they played other music in between the coverage, when they could've easily played the new entries

Nah Radio 1 are violating, literally playing As It Was rn they could atleast run down the chart

Is terrestrial radio still the way forward though? It seems like a 21st century move would be to have the chart show hosted on a streaming platforms via a live podcast, or even via YouTube?

It would still be accessible to millions of listeners who want to seek out such a weekly show rather than the casual listener.

I don't see any real benefit to this - BBC Sounds is easily accessible (and free) to anyone who can't access a radio/TV, and I can imagine a large amount of the audience is a casual audience who would be listening to Radio 1 anyway, so how many would actively seek out a live podcast or stream when they're happy to just pop Radio 1 on in their car? It's effectively a free audience for the chart, and the chart diehards (of which there probably isn't thaaaat many) will either make arrangements to tune in, or catch up later.

5 miles left until he finishes as of 4:10. Took him 1 hour 30 to do 5 miles so we definitely aren't getting any chart ☹️

I'm just baffled why they are not doing the chart show, we are just getting old music playing, they could have still done the chart rundown in between. And they have never done this with previous Comic Relief shows, why is this so special, answers on a postcard please. Just wait for the roadshow weekend, and the long Bank Holiday weekend the 80th Anniversary of World War II, they won't announce the chart those weeks, plus Glastonbury later in the year, as per usual.

Damn.

What would be the point of doing the show two days after the chart has been announced? huh

I mean move the chart back to Sundays like it was between 1969 and 2015

So I assume they'll just update the website at 6pm?

Should be up at 5:45, hopefully they can at least do a rundown on Radio 1 of the top 20 and play the #1 but who knows drama

Seems so... unless they play the top 20 before the 5;45 news.

It may well be, but clearly if "more important" matters are taking place the chart show will get shunted as we all know. Having a seperate space just for chart stuff would be better for everyone concerned and a more interative space with comments/reactions/etc... would draw in audiences too.

I can do 5 miles in 30 minutes he’s not even trying

The issue with this is that it'd require setting up, the OCC would probably have to run it themselves, hire someone to host/oversee it, ultimately this is easy for them as the BBC do the work for putting the actual show together! There's no incentive for the OCC to do it, and it obviously rates well enough for the BBC to keep it on the schedule 99% of the time.

I'm frustrated about how this week's being handled but I don't think any other station would remain as committed to the chart as Radio 1 do.

It's not like they have only 1 presenter as suggested could easily keep checking his updates whilst playing the chart show

Really can't see why they couldn't even just play the top 10, given that they're playing some music anyway. They wouldn't lose any coverage of the ultramarathon. Oh well...

Was about to say if he done the training 90 minutes is well above average for 5 miles , does he suffer from underlying conditions

You really haven't thought this one through, have you? (as per usual...)
