side note: I missed the SF2 listenthrough bc of work but I wanna know if anyone made a Daddy Says No reference during Land Of DW’s entry

No, and I really appreciate that noone compared a song about the struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community of a country under dictatorship to a novelty entry, just because the two song titles are similar.

I had to leave my home country for good at 37 because I was sick of not being able to live my true life. I didn't move for money or a better opportunity, I moved to be able to live a simple life that most people in Western Europe can take for granted. The song pretty much summarizes why I had to leave. 'Daddy Said No' is funny/silly, but somehow it always makes me sad and angry, yet I can't stop listening to it. In the end, I don't expect anyone to feel the way I feel when listening to this song, as thankfully most of you have grown up with a different level of acceptance around them. This is a song contest after all, you either like 'Daddy Said No' or not, it's all good.

Thanks Everyone who joined SyncTube yesterday for... simply being a decent human being and not making a running joke of the entry that clearly means so much to me. ❤️

I always think there are roughly a third of participants who are pop countries voting almost exclusively for other pop, a third (maybe just under) who are alt/dance/electronic leaning and voting almos

  • I know exactly how you feel. I moved from Hungary to Germany when I was 35 although not just because of the political situation of the country, but it had an influence on my choice. I moved 10 years

Good to note, sorry if I was being offensive or crass

I moved 10 years ago to Germany and moved because of a work opportunity 4 years ago to Switzerland so I have to say I could reach in western Europe much more with hard work then in my home country I could ever reach... and this is a shame...

Voted pretty early, ready for holiday mode! 🏖️

In the end I had 15 songs to vote for, so I really can't complain about the quality - hope most of my top 10 will manage to Q ❤️

Voted

SF2 was quite strong and the last song from Greenfroze was a worthy final song, I've really enjoyed it.

I always think there are roughly a third of participants who are pop countries voting almost exclusively for other pop, a third (maybe just under) who are alt/dance/electronic leaning and voting almost exclusively for other songs like that, and the rest who fall into the cracks in the middle and whose votes tend to go everywhere - often to the songs/genres that don't fall into these categories, although you find these people voting for some pop and alt stuff too. Doesn't always work out like that though, usually some alt countries have a couple of pop songs in their votes, must admit I don't often see many alt entries in 'pop country' votes though.

That's how I have always viewed it too, people have their own fave genres and tend to lean towards similar when voting and the floaters - can I call myself at least a Floater? (ta!) 😎 - can push it one way or the other. I lean towards pop-dance voting as they are more instant, but I also often reward interesting stuff. Who wants to be predictable!

The contest needs the floaters! Because they usually decide the winner, like you say. A really strong alt/dance/electronic or pop song might be able to command 250 points from its own side if it appeals really well to its niche, but to get over the line you're usually going to need decent points from the people in the middle too (and with any luck, some small points from the opposite side voters that see the appeal even if they don't completely love it). Which is why we so rarely see winners without any crossover appeal to the other side.

Not to say it can't happen though, sure if a standout alt song was to get 10 18s then it would be on 180 points already so wouldn't need that much more support to be in the mix.

I see BJSC a bit like Eurovision, with countries that tend to sway one way more often than not; the pop vote (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Malta, Australia, UK, Ireland) and alt/dance vote (Ukraine, Lithuania, Albania, Iceland, Finland, Portgual, Serbia, Croatia) and the people that do their own thing completely (San Marino, Switzerland, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria). But you do need that middle ground to balance things out.

Voted! Had about 20 songs that I liked😁

Votes are in 🌚

It felt like an underwhelming semi initially, as some standouts I already knew — but there are some big growers here. Always happy to come across songs that open up after a few listens 🖤

I can't remember the last time I felt so unsure about how a semi is going to unfold, it's difficult to predict this one. Massively varied, and not much stands out as a potential DNQ

Won't be able to make the Synctube tomorrow, but I had my first listen of SF1 today, and it's really good - I've a fair few more songs in contention for points than usual!

Yay to Model/Actriz appearing with one of my favourite singles of 2025 so far, Cinderella is such a tonic, whenever it comes up on my iPod I'm immediately fused with energy. Long live Scotland 2!

Also sending hype from the other semi to Thelonia and Neliönoir! <3

Voted after a quick relisten this morning after doing my main listen through during a rather windy hike.

I had about 15 tracks that I would be willing to give 5 points to, which is great, but no huge standouts so hopefully I'll find something 18-worthy in the opposite semi.

Done a listen through the youtube playlist for SF1 - just a heads up that the Burial video didn't play for me.

Everything else seems to (and the Igorrr video is brilliantly terrifying... also don't think it didn't notice the "little fish, big fish, cardboard box" and lyrics from 'Consider Yourself' from the musical Oliver! in the Orbital track) - a bit gutted I'll miss the session later, but it was either that or PFSC with the way the dates fell.

Burial video definitely works fine for me - what was happening when you tried to play it?

(And yes sorry anyone who wanted Monday for the semi 1 listenthrough but following discussion in the Pop Forum Song Contest thread it is gonna be today with the PFSC listenthrough coming tomorrow x)

It comes up with the black screen and "Video unavailable. Playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner."

(in the playlist - whereas the link in the OP works for me)
