Afternoon all hi mostly hoping for a third week in the top 40 for Addison Rae.

My top 3 songs from each retro chart:

2024

  1. Taylor Swift - Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)

  2. Hozier - Too Sweet

  3. Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso

Ooh, 'Not Like Us' scraping the top 10 this time last year. But with some unfinished business to come...!

2020

  1. The Weeknd - Blinding Lights

  2. Doja Cat - Say So

  3. AJ Tracey - Dinner Guest (feat. MoStack)

I'd forgotten about 'Dinner Guest' but that was a grower. A much preferable Nightcrawlers sample usage than 'Friday' for me.

2015

  1. Major Lazer & DJ Snake - Lean On (feat. MØ)

  2. Skrillex & Diplo present Jack Ü - Where Are U Now (feat. Justin Bieber)

  3. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You

I have fond memories of commercial dance music in 2014 but associate 2015 with losing interest in it. However, there are a couple of interesting dance tunes floating around right now, 'Where Are U Now' a good spring-board for a 'cooler' rebrand for Bieber in 2015.

2010

  1. Kelis - Acapella

  2. Diana Vickers - Once

  3. Pendulum - Watercolour

Pendulum scoring a top 5 hit cheeseblock the accompanying album was in my mum's car a lot at the time - taste!

"have you been to visit me at Aggrosantos.com?" of course blowing the rest of the songwriting here out of the water.

2005

  1. Snoop Dogg - Signs (feat. Justin Timberlake & Charlie Wilson)

  2. Ciara - 1, 2 Step (feat. Missy Elliott)

  3. Eminem - Mockingbird

20 years since 'Mockingbird's original chart stint. It passed me by at the time but did enjoy when it returned to the chart in 2022.

2000

  1. Fragma - Toca's Miracle

  2. Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again

  3. Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch

Britney successfully avoiding the sophomore slump with a killer lead and video *.*

1995

  1. Oasis - Some Might Say

  2. Take That - Back For Good

  3. Livin' Joy - Dreamer

A banging new #1 there from Livin' Joy! Scatman an obvious standout too and 'Guaglione' is an intriguing advert hit.

Still CocoMelon at number one on the video streaming chart?! How?!

'Some Might Say' by Oasis was the biggest selling single of the week back in 1995 but its sales were split across 5 formats which meant one (the 12") was allocated its own position (#73). Had sales been amalagamted with the other 4 formats it would have remained at number 1.

Also, 'Dreamer' by Livin' Joy was the first single to benefit from an agreement between the BPI, BARD (the record dealers association) and CIN (OCC) that records would be distributed to record shops ahead of the release date for maximum sales impact. With effect from May 1995, shops would receive stock on the Friday or Saturday with strict instructions not to sell the single before the Monday. Any record shop that broke the embargo on a regular basis could be removed from being a chart return shop or at the very least not be given stock ahead of the actual release date. Labels could also ask for a record to be removed from the charts if it was sold too early. This was a regular feature of the charts for the next decade, with singles regulalrly being removed from the charts when sold too early. The effect of the agreement was that instant number 1s became more common. In fact they became the norm for the next decade too.

Biography

When the video for Maroon 5’s “This Love” hit MTV in 2004, the network censored two words: coming, as in “keep her coming every night,” and sinking, as in “sinking my fingertips into every inch of you.” It’s not that the words were dirty, of course, but the context—well, even as euphemism, they felt a little too R for a song so universally catchy, so G. The incident was, in a way, a precedent: Even as they ascended to mega-stardom, Maroon 5 has managed to retain a sense of edge and sexuality that seems incomparable with how huge they are, bringing the boudoir to the grocery store while simultaneously remaining one of the 21st century’s few mainstream bands—as in, that old-timey concoction of guitar, bass, drums and a singer—able to keep pace with the innovations of electronic music and hip-hop. Made up primarily of old high-school friends, the band formed in Los Angeles in the early 2000s after an earlier—and musically unrelated—incarnation called Kara’s Flowers failed to launch. Influenced by singer Adam Levine’s then-recent baptism in hip-hop music and culture, 2002’s Songs About Jane was a slow burn, taking about two years to reach the upper end of the charts. The band toured relentlessly, venturing further into soul and Prince-style pop-rock for 2007’s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, adding both polish and power for 2010’s Hands All Over. In 2011, Levine started serving as a coach on The Voice, launching his own celebrity while expanding the band’s reach even further. - Apple Music

Biography

Viral sensation-turned-pop upstart Addison Rae (born Addison Rae Easterling in 2000 in Lafayette, Louisiana) became known in the late 2010s for her dance moves, amassing millions of followers online. After venturing into podcasting and makeup, she parlayed those fans into an entertainment career, releasing the breathy single “Obsessed” in 2021 and starring in the gender-flipped She’s All That remake He’s All That the same year. Rae’s long-in-the-works debut EP, AR came out in 2023, and cuts like “2 die 4”, a minimalist collaboration with pop futurist Charli xcx, and “Nothing On (But The Radio)”, a storming electro-pop anthem, showed her hitmaking acumen and flirtatious personality. In 2024 she appeared with Charli once again on “The von dutch remix with addison rae and a. g. cook”, a glitchy reworking of the lead single from her frequent collaborator’s expectation-defying BRAT. - Apple Music

I kind of hate how they give away the top 3 at the start of the show, often in order.

SPOILER!!!! 🤣 😉

I have actually never realised this before.
