What a legend!

Well that's the first UK dance #1 in a while (since Stormzy and Chase and Status - BACKBONE)?

'Dior' I still find very basic production-wise and it would have been enhanced with some more background synths.

I tuned into the chart show just as 'Acquiesce' was playing so figured from the time I had tuned in that it got its reset haha (assumed it would anyway but still nice for that to be confirmed - interestingly it seems to be sales that made the difference here as it's only their 4th highest song in the streaming chart, although maybe it also has a more favourable premium stream ratio for whatever reason).

Good to see MK hitting #1 indeed, was a little worried Sabrina might snatch it back at the last second.

This was already the case - she got to #55 in 2020 with 'Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas' w/ Michael Bublé. Stretches her span of new hits to just under 50 years though!

We've had turnover at #1 for 5 weeks in a row with Manchild - Ordinary - Manchild - Survive - Dior. That's a rare occurrence these days! In fact it looks like the last time was in 2022-2023, when it happened 7 weeks in a row with AIWFCIY - Last Christmas - Food Aid - Last Christmas - Escapism - Pointless - Flowers. (Lewis Capaldi appearing in both of those sequences)

The OCC’s poor record keeping strikes again, somebody needs to update her individual artist page. It’s so inconsistent, it’s credited as “Dolly Parton and Michael Buble” but doesn’t show on her page but Tyrant is “Beyoncé & Dolly Parton” and that does

Looking at the top ten throwbacks, I can’t believe how close Shine (Years and Years) and We Belong Together (Mariah Carey) where to number 1. Both worthy chart toppers.

cheerBut Bonnie Tyler sadly didn't make the chart this week :(

Looking back at Dolly's chart history it's pretty fascinating - she's never had more than one new top 100 hit in a calendar year and aside from in the first half of the 80s there are gaps of at least 4 years between each hit, but never a long enough gap to break her streak of having at least one per decade. (Her hits being in 76, 81, 83, 84, 85, 94, 98, 02, 11, 20 and now 25). Also still only two of those hits made the top 40 with the last of those being in 1983, surely something will bring her back to the top 40 one of these days, suppose we'll see if 'TYRANT' takes off more.

(I imagine a certain song of hers is likely to get a belated top 40 peak when she dies if nothing else but let's not go all kobbar here)

The way Manchild debuted at No.1, fell down, then went back up to No.1 reminds me of the musical chairs of Three Lions - Killing Me Softly - Three Lions - Killing Me Softly having a back-and-forth at No.1 in the summer of 1996.

The song first entered in 2020, but didn't peak at #55 until 2022 - it seems to do pretty well on the Spotify playlists every year.
