Stats-wise, 2025 did allow me to reach a new Q record and 8/10 Qs is the joint most I've had from a full contest year so far with 2016, 2021 and 2024 (2019 I had technically the most qualifiers, having just one DNQ and the rest all qualifiers, but I missed a contest so it screws the stats up a bit x). This is the first since 2022 I've not had a win (which seems insane given how long I was waiting for one initially) and the first since 2021 with no podium finishes, it does at least match the last two years of three top 10s in a calendar year. So yeah, Pretty solid overall x

And extremely consistent when all of these stats are placed next to one another. 5 entries between 14th-16th. 7 entries between 200-170pts. Nothing bar samxemma really broke through the ceiling and I don't think anything bar Breakaway was considered a contender so I don't feel like it's been a year of highs either, but 9/10 were hits and 8/10 were top 20 so equally not a year of lows. And a 6th year of 100% qualification is a huge success too ❤️My entry ranking:01 ● Say Now - Brick By Brick (9th | 193pts)02 ● Frost Children - WHAT IS FOREVER FOR (21st | 151pts)03 ● samxemma - HOT BOYS MAKE HOT MUSIC (5th | 200pts)04 ● FELICIA - Sugar High (14th | 179pts)05 ● Jessica Winter - L.O.V.E (8th | 196pts)06 ● Mae Muller - Breakaway (15th | 180pts)07 ● Iris Caltwait - Alchemy (Living Is Not For The Heart) (16th | 190pts)08 ● Nova May - Big Fat Monsta Truck (14th | 162pts)09 ● Drew Sycamore - Lonely Heat (15th | 170pts)10 ● CATTY - Joyride (29th | 119pts)

So that was a comparatively weak 577 points for the first half of the year with Rendición doing all the heavy lifting. We were 29th after 175 in the YTD and I'd been struggling with enthusiasm for the contest for a year or so, just one of those phases that cycle round where things don't feel like they're clicking. And then somehow the second half of the year was probably my most successful run ever with a still very high 14th being the worst finish and Ninajirachi scoring my best result ever - although both Ms* Gloom and Tori Amos did really well too. The last five contests of the year ended up delivering 1,197 points which was a remarkably fortunate set of results. If you'd have told me in July that we'd end up somewhere in the top 10 in the YTD despite two non-scoring contests then I really don't think I'd have believed you, but it's been a wonderful turnaround with a completely unexpected podium for Tori really topping it all off <3Personal rank of my entries:01 = Tori Amos | Spark01 = Delaporte & BRUNO - Rendición03 Ninajirachi - Infohazard04 Destroyer - Hydroplaning Off the Edge of the World05 Ms* Gloom | Joker06 Julia-Sophie - Telephone07 Balu Brigada | Backseat08 Joalin | Gum09 DJ Koze - Wie Schön Du Bist (feat. We're now in my 14th year of entering BJSC, and excluding the year where I didn't DNQ, 2018, this is the best one. Every other (full) year I've had 2 or more DNQs. If only Ecca had gotten through and made it a full house and then I'd be looking good on the streak front also. Certainly no shortage of risky entries in there either and I'm very pleased the more daring of the rest made it. Part of that may be the smaller contests and less non-qualifying spots but I'm really happy with that.On the flipside then, results-wise, it's frustrating for my competitive side that only a couple of those nine qualifiers were top half in the final and of those really just barely, with my best result of the year a 20th, which I'm not certain on this but I think that might actually be my lowest yearly peak. It feels like an absolute age since I've had a wide-appealing hit entry (Call Me Shadow near the beginning of last year probably, that's definitely my last top 10) and I do like getting those somewhat occasionally, makes the year unfortunately feel somewhat average despite clearly getting a good few fans for each of those entries; for the first 4 entries of the year I was on a streak of getting 3 18s each *.*, yes, even Aiobahn +81, which is really appreciated. I must be getting good at my niches. Time for those niches to become mainstream xbasically just kind of been weird for me how good yet not good I've been doing. On how I'd actually rank my entries, there are two that are way ahead of the rest in quality in my mind, and that's the first two. 'Pest' and '天天天国地獄国' I have been playing pretty much non-stop throughout this year, I'm still just as obsessed with both as I was when I entered them, and my favourite Séyetana moment this year HAS to be Aiobahn +81 qualifying, even if it didn't do that well in the final because I adore that addictive silly rhythmic tune so much. Still entering, I think, a decent amount of genres and I'm trying to keep it fresh as ever, even if I do go to a rock song or a Asian pop song more often than not.01= Vylet Pony - Pest01= Aiobahn +81 - 天天天国地獄国 (Tententengokujigokugoku)03 Igorrr - ADHD04 Patty Gurdy - Peg-Leg Silly Billy (feat. December 15Dec 15 Just now, TheSnake said:I put this through the Microsoft Edge Read Aloud feature and it put too many ku's on the last word!Things I would generally not do: trust an English language computer reading aloud feature with a transliteration of a word in a foreign language far removed from English xParticularly given that is not how the words would be used or spelt in proper Japanese, it's intentionally idiosyncratic. For what it means, it's 'Tengoku' (天国) and 'Jigoku' (地獄), 'Heaven' and 'Hell' respectively (国 generally means country but that second one is mainly put at the end of the song title and the corresponding phrase in the lyrics to match Hell with Heaven rhythmically), mashed up, repeated and elongated as if in opposition to each other. I can't remember if you were in that contest but if you watch the music video for the song it's pretty self-explanatory why the title is like... that.

The excitement of BJSC 172 culminating my best ever result of 2nd was shortly followed by another top 5, and even with perhaps the biggest disappointment when Cult Of Venus (my second favourite entry after GusGus) became one of several to barely qualify and then miss the top 30, I was still 10th on the YTD at halfway. Then a 50/50 decision led to the first DNQ (if I'd known 'Timanttei' had already been in PJSC and performed poorly there, I'd have passed on it), and with the year streak gone I took a few risks in the last couple of contests and relative chaos ensued - perhaps it's still too early to reflect on that. However the Yakima Jera result beforehand earned second place in my entries for most concentrated support i.e. average points per voter, of 9.88 (168/17) - only Picture Parlour in BJSC 156 had a higher average of 9.94 (169/17). I still try (and usually fail) to appeal to everyone, but it's also quite satisfying to have these cult favourites once in a while.More widely on Buzzjack, this will be the year I finished 2nd in FOUR different contests, 3rd for a podium in a fifth, 4th in a sixth, and 5th in a seventh:2nd | BJSC | GusGus (feat.
