Surprised that version of “Father And Son” got so much love - it’s devoid of the original’s charm for me. But I guess a lot of us were children when it was out at Christmas so maybe there’s some nostalgia there.

I guess it was the first version I heard. I don’t like Boyzone but thought that was a beautiful song.

Exactly this! It was the first Christmas I was really aware of music. Watching the video just there, the other 4 who aren't Ronan barely make a sound 😅 virtually a solo record

18 of my votes still left. Going better than I could have hoped

Victims is one of my higher voters, decent Xmas top 3 in 1983!

Christmas number one: 2 Become 1 - Spice Girls

Christmas number two: Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door / Throw These Guns Away - Dunblane

Written for the musical “Evita”, English singer and actress Julie Covington took this Andrew Lloyd Webber and Time Ricd song to #1 in 1977. Madonna played the lead role in the 1996 film version, and had vocal coaching to help her use her voice in the right way for this. It entered at its peak position in Christmas week.

Thank U, Next - Ariana Grande

Christmas number one: We Built This City - LadBaby

Christmas number two: Sweet But Psycho - Ava Max

This was the title track and lead single from Ariana’s 5th album. The track about Ariana’s relationships was praised for its positive message. It flew out of the gates on release, breaking streaming records and spending its first 6 weeks at #1 before being knocked off at Christmas.

Christmas number one: Do They Know It’s Christmas? - Band Aid

Christmas number two: Last Christmas - Wham!

This is still probably the ultimate Christmas Top 2, still featuring 2 of the biggest songs of all time. The same year Paul McCartney wrote and produced the film “Rupert And The Frog Song”. This theme song featured the King’s Singers and the Choir Of St Paul’s Cathedral as the frog chorus. Choirs With Purpose did a 2017 version with Buzzjack icon Michelle McManus in a bid for the Christmas #1, but it missed the Top 100.

Christmas number one: Something I Need - Ben Haenow

Christmas number two: Uptown Funk - Mark Robson featuring Bruno Mars

This was the third single from the “x” album, which produced one of the most fascinating chart runs in history. As well as taking 20 weeks to climb to #1 it spent a record 54 consecutive weeks in the Top 40, which is now very difficult to beat with the Christmas clear out. By Christmas it had only fallen to #3, and this was the final hurrah for X Factor claiming the #1. The song’s total now stands at more than 5 million chart sales.

Ah, Ariana the next of my votes to drop out.

'thank u, next' took some time for me to get used to, coming off the back of an era with big pop singles, but I came to appreciate the mature songcraft in the end.

Thinking Out Loud remains utter dirge even after all these years.

Thank U Next is one of Ariana's worst songs as well.

Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree - Mel Smith & Kim Wilde

Christmas number one: Always On My Mind - Pet Shop Boys

Christmas number two: Fairytale Of New York - The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl

Landing behind another iconic Christmas Top 2 was this Comic Relief single. Mel Smith was a comedian and TV presenter and here teamed up with English singer Kim Wilde. They called themselves Mel & Kim as a parody of the sisterly duo who were popular at the time. At this point Brenda Lee’s original only had a #6 peak - as of last week of course the two versions have the same peak.

Not ed dropping before this god awful cover version, but then again Ed is a polar opposite artist on here

I love Ed, but Thinking Out Loud 🤢

Always loved this version of RATCT

Not a fan of musicals for the most part so not a fan of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina". Usually not an Ed fan but I haven't had "Thinking Out Loud" forced upon me as much as his other hits so I can bare it more than them. "Thank U, Next" is okay, Ariana has way better songs though. "We All Stand Together" is quite cute, only heard it for the first time after discovering it from the charts. Much prefer the original "Rockin' Around..."! (me try to be positive about songs in this rate challenge, impossible)
