  • The cut off point has been reached! It's the same points score as last year. 101 singles had a points total greater than 61 points. There were two on 62 points so I've allowed them both through rathe

VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED Thanks to the 40 people who voted. The results will start this evening.

  • Having a slice of toast while watching the evening news in honour. “I Hear You Now” was a gorgeous discovery at the 80s hit sessions, but I couldn’t quite fit it into my votes.

Sorry @King Rollo did you include my 1pt for 'Pump It Up'?

It says you edited your list 20 hours ago so I would have missed it. I've added Pump It Up to the one point section now.

Lifestyles of the rich and famous is a bop only 4 points is a travesty 😮

Whoops looks like I even missed it myself 🤭

Nothing I voted for out yet but a couple that were among the last few that I cut ('Diamonds From Sierra Leone' and 'Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous') - 'Rabbit' is also iconic too ofc, and I wouldn't have known the Toyah song if not for the ongoing 80s SyncTube sessions but I can appreciate it now (though I don't think that was my favourite of the songs played from them on there so far).

Last Night In Soho gets my 2-pointer for being an interesting BJSC discovery 4 years ago! cheer

'I Feel You' and 'I Can Only Disappoint U' are my two favourites from those out so far. Mansun had some great singles, it's a shame they are pretty much forgotten about these days.

Kele Le Roc - Little Bit Of Lovin'

The Pretenders - Hymn To Her

The Stranglers - Peaches / Go Buddy Go

Sway - Level Up

Dusty Springfield - Some Of Your Lovin'

Wham! - Wham Rap!

With its distinctive bassline, Peaches was the first top 40 hit for The Stranglers. They have another song to come and there is also another 'Peaches' left. From 1983, we have Wham!'s second hit single and from four years later, comes Hymn To Her by The Pretenders who also have a second song to come. There's a correction here as I got Kele Le Roc and Lonyo mixed up yesterday. Summer Of Love by Lonyo has been added to the 2 point list and Little Bit Of Lovin' scored 5 points.

Big Fun - Can't Shake The Feeling

Daphne & Celeste - Ooh Stick You!

Des'ree - Life

LL Cool J - I Need Love

N-Joi - Anthem

Yomanda - Synth & Strings

From 1999, Synth & Strings was one of four top 40 hits for Paul Masterson under his Yomanda name. From the 90s, there are N-Joi and Des'ree and from the 80s, Big Fun and LL Cool J with his first top 40 single, I Need Love. The 21st Century is represented by Daphne & Celeste.

Loads of classics! Several of these were on my shortlist:

Hymn To Her

Wham Rap!

Ooh Stick You

Life

But in the end, none of them could compete with all of the songs that I voted for.

ATB x Topic x A7S - Your Love (9PM)

Cilla Black - Step Inside Love

The Chordettes - Born To Be With You

Dan Hartman - Instant Replay

King - Alone Without You

Mike Mago and Dragonette - Outlines

Daniel Merriweather featuring Wale - Change

(Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe scored 7 points but has been disqualified as the re-issue reached number 2)

This disco floor filler from 1978 was one of three top 20 hits for Dan Hartman. 'I Can Dream About You' from 1985 has a very different sound and is also worth a listen. Born To Be With You by The Chordettes from 1956 could possibly be the earliest song to receive a vote. Step Inside Love was written by Paul McCartney to be the theme for Cilla Black's TV series. Alone Without You was the third of five top 40 hits for King with all of them in the space of about one year.

N-Joi - Anthem is such a masterpiece - one of the greatest dance tunes of all time. Also like Synth & Strings quite a lot.

Daphne & Celeste's Reading & Leeds set is one of the greatest live sets ever but couldn't bring myself to give Ooh Stick You any points 😆 Instant Replay is an absolute tune, would've scored it highly if I felt it had any chance of progressing (which in the end it did not sadly)

Galantis - Peanut Butter Jelly

Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake - Love Never Felt So Good

Pia Mia featuring Chris Brown and Tyga - Do It Again

The Prodigy - One Love

The Ventures - Walk Don't Run

From 1993, One Love was the fourth top 10 hit for The Prodigy. Walk Don't Run was an instrumental by the American group The Ventures, one of two top 10 singles for them in 1960. Michael Jackson makes his second appearance with a posthumous hit from 2014.

‘Walk Don’t Run’ is the first of my votes to drop out, not surprised to be its sole pointer! A standout surf rock instrumental in a chart landscape that was a bit of a slog in the pre-Beatles world.

I do like to champion some of the ancient stuff. I came close to voting for “Walk, Don’t Run” which is a brilliant early rock and roll style instrumental. Instead The Chordettes are my first vote out. I hope they can do well with a certain track in the #11 rate in 3 years.

The very unique 'Synth and Strings' I should have voted for, forgot to include that one.

'Outlines' in the 7 point list also a very good dance song from 2015 and 'Alone Without You' by King good from 30 years earlier.

Aitch featuring ZieZie - Buss Down

P. Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera - Tell Me

Ariana Grande - Imagine

Brian Hyland - Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini

Shaznay Lewis - Never Felt Like This Before

Quartz introducing Dina Carroll - It's Too Late

Viola Wills - Gonna Get Along Without You Now

This disco song was the only top 30 hit for Viola Wills. The original version by Teresa Brewer came out way back in April 1952, before the UK chart had started, so we will never know if it would have been a hit. There's an even bigger gap between the two versions of Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini with the second one going all the way to number 1. Brian Hyland later reached the top 10 in two different decades with 'Sealed With A Kiss'.
