Currently, you see albums and singles that have already been certified get the total amount needed for the next certification (so a 4x certified album would need 1.5 million sales before getting 5x certified even though 300k is needed for a platinum cert). In these cases, BPI seem to check every year or two and update when another 300k is passed rather than rely on how other legacy certified albums and singles are treated.
