January 9Jan 9 A good thing I missed most of this week's show. With all these oldies reset it's just as bad as Christmas. And when I did manage to tune in I had to mute because of 3 x Olivia Dean followed by Dave. With Djo at number one I turned off again. If any 80's artist was to be reset I would like it to be Kim Wilde. But no such luck.
January 9Jan 9 justice served for Steve Harrington this week then yayEnd of Beginning has grown a fair bit on me the second time around so is certainly more pleasing than just another default week at number one for Taylor

January 11Jan 11 Belatedly caught up on the thread again - I only caught a bit of the chart show this week (and even then my radio signal was spotty for some of it x) but did hear that they skipped all of Prince, Kate Bush and The Police in that time. I understand them skipping at least a few of the old songs but they really should have played more than they did - Prince and Fleetwood Mac at the very least (and if need be they could have skipped Tiffany since they played her last week). But what's new with Radio 1 having questionable song play decisions. Glad that The Clash being at #40 meant they were pretty much guaranteed to be played at least, eek at them coming so close to missing out after being comfortably in in the mids due to other songs being reset (and arguably even then being lucky that 'Silver Springs' fell short of its own reset) but at least they made it if by the skin of their teeth!I'm not super familiar with 'Landslide' (have definitely heard it so I'm sure it'll come back to me when I revisit) but it's good to see a new hit on Fleetwood Mac's list. Nice for their Greatest Hits album getting a new peak too, I'm sure it'll find its way to #1 one of these days. The rest of the oldies returning to the top 40 are certainly all classics ('Upside Down' my least favourite of them but still a good tune and happy it has got its top 40 return after all) so good job Stranger Things, was rooting for 'Purple Rain' to get that top 10 spot but not quite, unless it can still be in contention for it next week idk.I did find myself enjoying 'End Of Beginning' a bit more than I remember from 2024 when I was relistening to the chart the other day, still don't think it'll ever be a major favourite for me but cool that it has finally got its moment at #1 that a lot of people were predicting to happen two years ago. Two weeks in a row that Taylor was #1 in all the mids but #2 at the end of the week, behind two different songs! Was also wondering if there were any other songs that made their chart debut at #100 and eventually rose to #1 so thanks Jim for answering that one for me ('Dance Monkey' debuted at #82 so that isn't another one). Not keen on the James Marriott song and I've not heard KATSEYE's yet but I don't exactly have high expectations for it given everyone else's reaction to it (I've actually only just now finally heard 'Gnarly' lol, that is... quite an experience of a song x). Have also only recently heard the other two SIENNA SPIRO hits, I do like 'MAYBE.' as well but 'You Stole The Show' is a little bland for me and has some not so great vocal moments so I wish it was the former giving her a second top 40 instead but hey ho. Didn't clock until reading the thread that 'Stateside' had now matched the peak of 'Tonight'! Hmm at Radio 1 playing the solo version this week, maybe the Zara version play last week was a one-off while Jack was away lol. I do like both versions but I think the addition of Zara makes the song feel a bit more complete (and I like both versions' instrumentals about the same) so I'm team Zara version overall xHappy to see the resets for Addison and Ellie just outside the top 40 too, both would be welcome top 40 re-entries. Hope 'Midnight Sun' will makes its way in soon too.
January 12Jan 12 Given all the 80s tracks returning now because of Stranger Things, how come in 2022 it was only Kate Bush that had any impact?
January 12Jan 12 It wasn't only Kate in 2022, Metallica's 'Master Of Puppets' also went top 40 and Journey's 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)' went top 100!
