'Affirmation' is very good, but I prefer 'To The Moon And Back'.

'Confusion' and 'Last Train To London' are two of the better ELO songs, a second quality double A side in this contest after Heart - Never/These Dreams.

Thank the lord Sweet Caroline is out, I hate it with all my soul. Already bracing myself for blocking out those heinous 'BA BA BA' shouts this summer x

  • 'The Windmills of Your Mind' is the first of my votes to drop out! Wonderful psychedelic imagery, piano and strings. The vocal performance is charming too.

46. Noel Harrison - The Windmills Of Your Mind 147pts

Writers - Michel Legrand, Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman

Top points - Julian 25, DarrenJ77 20, chartjack2 19

This song was part of the 1968 film 'The Thomas Crown Affair' and won an Oscar for best original song. With the Winter Olympics going on, it's worth mentioning that Noel Harrison represented Great Britain at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics in the giant slalom event. This single was his only top 40 hit, he was an actor more than a singer.

Aww I love Windmills of Your Mind - but I guess the nature of these rates is that we all lose high scorers at some point!

Noooo I was not expecting 'Affirmation' to drop so early! An absolute cracker of a song, second only to 'To The Moon And Back' amongst Savage Garden's discography.

Ah just realised I got Affirmation mixed up with a different song - should have given it a few points. In hindsight should also have given Windmills... a few points, for its appearance in Alan Partridge if nothing else. Wouldn't have been enough to put either through anyway.

Sweet Caroline even being in the top 50 at all is crazy its one of the worst songs ever, anyone that sings it on karaoke deserves to stub their toes on a table or get explosive diarrhoea 🙄

And why oh why do people insist on playing it or buying it for any minor celebration in the UK hes not even British 🤣

So sad to see Affirmation go 😢 I guess it struggles as it doesn’t mention the title in the lyrics. But it is truly a classic and from one of the best albums ever recorded.

Top points - Mack 25, rio309 20, dandy* 14, Grandwicky 14, detonate 14

From 2007, this was the fourth and final top 10 hit for the London band.

'Flux' done dirty both here and in one of the 2000s forum survivors recently!

Still, at least it advanced from the first round.

44. Dire Straits - Romeo And Juliet 160pts

Another group from London now. Romeo And Juliet was the second out of five top 10 singles for Dire Straits. The first of them is still to come in the second semi-final.
